Our Proud 1 Star Michelin Hawker Smile Sep 08, 2016

[Liao Fan Hongkong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodles]

Chef-owner Chan Hon Meng, recently received a 1 Star Michelin Award for his soya sauce chicken stall at Chinatown. A stall which I frequently patronized, was now bustling with even more crowd. Chef-owner Chan named his stall "Hongkong" because he learned the cooking ropes previously from a restaurant's Hongkong chef.

Borned in Ipoh, Malaysia, Chef-owner Chan was already in the F & B industry for 35 years. He worked 17 hours a day at his soya sauce chicken stall, 6 days a week. He prepared 180 soya chickens daily, currently 30 pieces more from his usual so as more customers could get their hands on it.

Chef Chan did not behave "on airs" or ignorant after receiving his 1 star Michelin award. Instead, he still humbling continues to operate his stall since the very next day after the Michelin award ceremony.

Few days ago, my friends and I braved the queue just to get our hands on his food. We started queuing at 10.15am, there was already a long line infront of us but stall only operate after 10.30am! *woww* A lady stall assistant came over to take orders first in order to ease the crowd. We finally got our food around 12noon, fed our camera and tucked in!!

[1] Soya Sauce Chicken $14.00 (whole) $7.00 (half)

- Look at this gorgeous plate of soya sauce chicken! Tender, fat plumpy chicken meat with skin so nicely marinated and glazed. So yum and juice all locked in! The light soya sauce drizzled on top was packed with sesame sauce fragrance but slight salty for me.

[2] Roast Meat Platter $10.00 (Char Siew, Ribs and Roasted Pork Belly)

- Among all 3 types of roast meat, my best take was the char siew meat. They were nicely charred on the outside and contains equal ratio of meat vs fats. Fats' portion melts in your mouth and overall not overly sweet. Ribs was a little tough, I wished the meat was more tender. As for the roasted pork belly, the positive part was the crackling skin but negatively, the meat wasn't as flavourful.

[3] Oyster Sauce Vegetable $3.00 (small) $4.00 (big)

- A fresh greeny plate of kai lan vegetables, poached and drizzled with oyster sauce. Cooking time was just right where the leaves were not overlooked and the stems still gave us a good crunch. Best take was the loads of crispy garlic bits scattered on top!

[4] Bean Sprouts $2.00 (small) $3.00 (big)

- Using the same oyster sauce base/ drizzle as the kai lan vegetables, both plates tasted similar. Bean sprouts were very crunchy and for only $2.00, this portion was definitely generous.

[5] Plain "kosong" Thin Yellow noodles/ Rice noodles $1.00 per plate
[6] Plain Rice $0.50 per plate

- As we ordered sharing meat portions, our carbo all came in "kosong" (plain). I love the chewy texture of kway teow (rice noodles) most. The thin yellow noodles were springy and al dente too. As for the rice, it was so good with the braised dark sauce! I believe the base sauce used for tossing were the same for all 3. It was really savory and fragrant! Nomnomnom...

If you come on your own, you could simply order their 1 person individual portion. The price will eventually blow you off with the generous portion they give.

[7] Soya Sauce Chicken with Rice; At only $2.00 per plate

[8] Soya Sauce Chicken plus another meat choice with Rice (or) Noodles $3.50 per plate
$3.50

$3.50

*** A very enjoyable and delicious 1 star Michelin meal at lowest prices you could find in the world now. My many dining experiences here previously and now, Chef Chan kept his top standards. Food were still as good after he scored his Michelin! He believes there's no first grade food but only first grade chef who works hard to make good food. My only complain now was the queuing time. I used to get his chicken in 45mins previously, but now, it's at least 1.5hrs from stall opens and 2.5hrs during lunchtime. Nevertheless, I'll BE BACK!! smile ***

Hungry Heros Smile Jan 11, 2015

[Hungry Heros]
Location: 33 Tessensohn Road (S)217656
Decor: Superheroes Themed Restaurant. From the shopfront, nothing impresses you until you pushed open that glass door of theirs. WOW! Bam!! What an eye opener! The whole restaurant are displayed with lotsa Superheroes figurines. From small to life sized, very impressive! Lotsa toy guns are glued on the ceiling near the bar counter. Posters & Paintings of superheroes are hung up for sale too.
Level one projects a more cosy area, with dimmer, yellow light shining throughout.
Level two is more brightly lit, you could see the figurines & displays clearer & the area is a lot more spacious than level one. There were pretty lights, planes etc. Customers are busy taking photos, while disturbing the rest of diners there! Lol
Service: Staff were very polite & attentive. Due to no reservations made, and restaurant indoor area was full, hubby & I took up the alfresco seating area. The staff showed us to our seats very quickly & present us with the menu. Despite busy night, the staff still attended to our requests, went through the menu with us & also introduced us to their signature dishes.
Food: Hubby & I ordered a Mac & cheese as starters and the "Nice to meat you" platter as main. The platter feeds 2-3 paxs. It includes Pulled Pork, De-boned Chicken, Half rack Ribs, Sirloin steak, Roast potatoes/fries, Bread, Salad & corn. As i don't take beef, the kitchen separately plated the sirloin steak on another tray for my hubby smile
Mac & cheese tasted pretty normal but no wow factor for me. You can skip it! The food presentation was normal, with everything placed on an rectangular aluminum tray.
Pulled Pork was very flavourful. But somehow It gave me a similar taste like those canned pork cubes that I always loved! Heehee tongue Hubby accompanies it with the bread slices provided.
The de-boned chicken was very tender. The best part was the chicken skin. Slight crispy with the Bbq "chao ta" taste running around my tongue! Woohoo!! It's heaven!
Pork ribs was sweet on the outside & soft on the inside. Well marinated & tasted good too ;)
As for the sirloin steak, I can't comment because I don't take beef but hubby said it was good. Especially with the accompanied "hero sauce". You can choose either this or mushroom sauce or black pepper sauce to go along. Medium rare was done perfectly!
This platter portion is pretty big and we could not finished ours.
Experience: overall experience was very good. After dinner, my hubby & I went round the whole place to take more pictures before we go off. So fun! I will definitely come again!! This is definitely a cool place for families & friends gathering!

Frozen by a 1000 blessings Smile Dec 26, 2014

Categories : Australian / New Zealand | Café | Frozen Yogurt

After seeing food bloggers blogging about this new yogurt place, I decide to come see & taste for myself. Frozen was situated at a corner below HDB block 126, Toa Payoh. Very prominent as its facing the public carpark. I love the "wood" feel of the shop front, it protraited a natural nature  feel smile While I was busy taking photos of their shopfront, a young lad with smiley face actually came out from the shop & gave me a polite greeting smile Thumbs up for his gesture!

He asked: "Would you like to come in & give our yogurt a try?" Ohhhh.. 😄 Oh gosh! A woman's weak point, cannot resist desserts & nice looking young lads! Wahahaha. So I proceeded in smile

The interior was so clean with yogurt dispensers properly installed on 1 side, while toppings were cleanly laid in small bowls near the cashier counter. They have quite a variety of toppings. I didn't do a proper count but I think more than 20 🙀 There are also nutrition value cards for you to read up on, stating how much calories/ energy you're taking.

Ok, back to the young lad. He let me try all the flavours they have that day. From Natural to Coconut, Mango Soy, Chocolate, Green tea & Pomegranate. I love Pomegranate frozen yogurt the most so I chose it as my final choice. My hubby prefers the mango soy & coconut so he got 2 flavours in his cup. The yogurt were smooth & not too sweet, I like!! Kids will surely like the chocolate flavoured yogurt because it tastes like chocolate milk!

Frozen by A Thousand Blessings yogurt by weight. $3.80 for 100g. Toppings range from different types of chocolate to cheesecake to fruits to popcorn etc.. Too many to be named. My hubby was so greedy on his toppings (too many choices) so his share alone costs $11.

Nevertheless, both of us enjoyed our visit. With yummy yogurt + cozy environment & friendly staff, this is definirely a "will come back again" dessert place for us smile

A new halal concept cafe/ice cream Parlour in the east. Situated at upper changi road, it occupies a small 10 seater unit in East Village. The place is very easy to find, it is just opposite simpang bedok hawker.

When I first stepped into Salty Peanut, I was greeted by the friendly staff & this is a good start! I asked my hubby to find himself a seat while I go "explore" the ice cream!

There are more than 10 choices of ice cream. When I ask the staff to intro me to the nicer ones, he said ALL ARE NICE smile He allows me to try all!! Woohoo so nice!!

The interior was quite simple with superhero portraits, a clock that needs some calculation before you know the time (hahaha) & one old skool camera hung on the pillar.

Personally, I like their signature Salted Peanut the most!! It's really yummy! So it landed on my waffle.. Heehee! As for the 2nd ball, I chose Espresso! Love the coffee richness & I know my Kopi-fanatic hubby wold love it too. It's $10.50 for waffle with 2 balls of ice cream, price is reasonable.

Overall experience was good! I will come back for more PEANUTS!!

Meet & Melt Smile Nov 23, 2015

[Meet & Melt]
Blk 915 Tampines St.91
#01- 49 Singapore 520915

Dessert before dinner at Meet & Melt. It was my first visit here at this ice cream parlour. The shop unit below this hdb block was rather small, minus the space used for baking and ice cream chiller, there's only a 2-seater placed indoors. The rest 20 are alfresco seats. Business was quite good on a Sunday, most seats were taken up and average waiting time was about 10-15mins for waffles and toasts. My choice of desserts were:
(1) Charcoal waffles with Premium Salted Egg Ice Cream scoop $9.90 (+ $1 for Premium ice cream)

- This selection comes with 2pcs of 3" X 3" square waffles. The waffles' texture were very crispy, totally MY KIND of waffles. I dislike those soft, chewy fluffy types.

As for the premium salted egg ice cream scoop, extra $1 chargeable for premium selections. The curry leaves' taste in the ice cream was more distinctive than the salted egg taste, slightly overwhelming but overall ice cream still savoury.
If you like something heavier, you also have other choices such as adding salted egg sauce or matcha sauce at an additional cost of $1.
(2) Ferrero Rocher Toast Creation $12.90

- As how the name describes, this creation comes with a rectangular bread toast and a scoop of ferrero rocher ice cream. Topped with 2 pretzel sticks, 2 chocolate rolls, a ferrero rocher chocolate and drizzled with chocolate sauce.

The toast was baked till crispy on the outer layer and slight fluffy on the inside. Each sides were evenly spread with butter and tastes good even on its own without ice cream.
As for the Ferrero rocher ice cream, the texture was chocolatey and creamy. Those hazenut taste found in our usual rocher chocolate was quite distinctive here in this ice cream but personally views, it can be heavier.
Although overall chocolate elements add up were abit too sweet but I still enjoyed it, especially with great company like my family.
Verdict: Strengths were more in the waffles than toasts if I have to choose 1. Those who love crispy waffles (like me), this is definitely the place to visit. Ice cream varieties will have to improve as the existing flavours are too common and easily found in the market. Lady boss together with her family are friendly people, prices here are reasonable and affordable too so do give them your support if you're around the vicinity 😊
