Pizzzza and Paaasta Smile Nov 30, 2010   (Related Review)

Just in from my friends', I forgot to tell them previously to send in their food photos! So I've just gotten it, so here it is!

The pasta lasagna style ($10++) is quite a interesting feast to try. The pasta stacked a la lasagna, with bits of mushroom and ham (in the spoonful I tried). My friend chose this dish because it was the cheapest from most other stalls tongue But yeah, the taste is quite good to try, and price for a western dish is not bad at all! The cream wasn't overdone, it was just nice! Something to try if you've tried everything else.

Pizza, which I remembered my other friend when I first came to Marche that it wasn't a recommendation, could be a good option when you're bored with everything else. The pizza, which was probably a Margarita with mushroom is topped with big salami, and cheese and fresh mushrooms are fresh as you bite - the mushroom juices and tomato overload. Quality here reigns, so it's quite a good try to sink in! Size-wise, it could be shared by two other people when ordering another main menu.

The interesting drink, the root beer, is really different than the usual root beer we'll get in fast food joints! They have just a different level of 'soda attack' those sharp feeling when drinking a soda, and it's less sweet with a more 'sour' doctor syrup kind of feel. Dare to try!mad

Kireii K-ki da! Smile Nov 28, 2010

You'd see other reviewers showing their cakes so this time, where a couple of my friends were not aware of this place, which is quite a hidden gem if you don't understand the area, I'll show where its located instead. smile

Though the store is really small and their display looks a bit too boring, their cakes and its taste are a miracle.

The ones I've tried and tested for all choco lovers should be Little Red Riding Hood! I'd bring this for my mom, as this is made by 70% dark chocolate. Talk about ultra bitter, and burning the fat (and other healthy impact made by dark chocolate to our body) with the smooth mousse. I'm a mousse lover, so the creamy but mixed light to give a light filling for more air was just perfect. I'm not a fan of any fruits, but since this would be much bitter to most people, the raspberry layer inside provided the balance of sweetness, like wine and steak. Ooooh lala, you must take your red coat down to ann siang hill and order this!

Prices although are really unfriendly (to well, my student pocket) I guess it does pay offbecuse f othe quality of the ingredients. Where else that serves 70% - not 50%! - of dark chocolate goodness?

Comfort Food and Feels like Home Smile Nov 13, 2010

Categories : Fusion | Restaurant

Friends decided to eat here as they wished to start eating healthy. I have no objections in eating healthy as it's a good change than oily kopitiams, so chow down away for dinner! (AND ITS DINNER so dinner has to be a more careful meal of the day. No fatties allowed.mad)

The place is non-aircon, FYI. A small dinky diner compared to their newer branch which is more sophisticated and restaurant-like, it's more cozy and feels like home. Service here is absolutely great - all the people working there are humble and if you're eating alone in the top counter, you can talk to them like old chums!

My friend ordered her usual hot mocha (<$3) which is very pretty-looking! Taste-wise is not too strong, as the bitter taste but theres a level of chocolate which you have to mix, giving a balanced taste. I'd say this is the best hot cafe drinks compared to most big to-go coffee stalls.

I ordered something from the pasta side, (forgot the name) with mushroom. It came with an interesting array in a long plate, slightly a too little portion for pasta (my tummy's just too big) but fresh salad on the other side. The vegetables were really green and clean, it was really pleasing to see. Taste-wise was light as it was of a more clean aglio style pasta than cream, and the saltiness was just nice!

Water is free too here, and desserts are always a must-try. Not for today, but at other occasional times!

All, just right! Smile Oct 05, 2010

My first invitation for an ORTU was noteworthy - invited to eat in Sentosa's famous Cafe Del Mar, I was totally excited~!

So here goes the journey being late because of the tram taking forever, I arrived just a wee bit late to try the appetizer - the bruschetta. I was seated at the far end of the table, with the manager and OR staff while the other table is occupied with the other chosen OR reviewers. Kenath the manager was very friendly, I was overwhelmed! So cheers to ya, Mr Kenath!smile
The other OR staff was as equal as friendly, we could converse at almost anything.

Anyhow, back to the bruschetta, diced tomato cubes and melted cheese was just satisfactory, a good opening. It was almost tasteless so it doesn't overpower or cover the tastebuds of my tongue to prepare the main courses that we're going to dig in! While so, Kenath ordered me a mango smoothiewhich was thick enough to taste the real mango but not as thick until I was feeling full. It was a good sweet match for the hot weather out and the food we're about to try!

Next came along the tomato based seafood pasta. Their seafood selection in a portion with the size is worth for it's price (~$20 there) with large shrimps, shell and a round of big scallop piece! It was light, not tangy although it was just a bit bland for me - I'm used to eat a more saltier taste so this tastes a bit bland. But overall it should be just right!
Carbonara based penne with bacon/ham bits was a winner compared to the tomato though! lol The cream was smooth and taste just right, but the bacon balanced the taste being it very salty - I really enjoyed it much, eating the bits of it! What I like as well about their pasta is that it's just right when they take it out from the boiling water. The pasta's still hard enough to enjoy a couple of chews before going much down the drain! tongue

CHAMPION OF THE NIGHT, AS I WAS SAYING, is the pacific dory fillet with the best mashed potatoes ever tasted: as smooth and creamy like ice cream. This part is also their special point, mashed potato with mix of cheese and mashing it like mad to make this mash potato so soft. mad This was a recommendation from Mr Manager himself, and this is a new menu that everyone ought to try when visiting this cafe. The fish, softly cooked with the spices which makes a little layer of crisp on the outside but soft, smooth and all-beautiful white meat inside, and the sauce when cooked has been absorbed, so even though the meat looks white untouched by any sauce, it has a hint of sweet taste within each bite. Fresh cherry tomatoes that gave the hard sour punch needs to be eaten in a small bite or the flavor of the fish can't be tasted. I had a full share for this, no one was finishing it so I taken every last bit of it and scrape off the potato as clean as possible!chopstick

The last main course which is the lamb dish has only a slight smell of the lamb but the sauce which quite tasted like BBQ sauce had also been absorbed. Succulent and tender meat at the first bite! It really is soft and the portion is just nice; easy to be eaten and hold as well.Again, mash potato as the side dish there! There's a hidden gem underneath the lamb chop, it's like a flat cheese croissant kind (I'm not sure how to describe) and it's good to be eaten by itself!

Finally, desserts to close which I was looking forward to the cafe has to offer. First was the apple crumble with a scoop of ice cream - the usual hot and cold combination! The apple crumble is just a pass, pretty normal compared to other apple crumbles. There's not much of a difference...it's just plainly right. However, the chocolate fondue set is an absolute worth for your wallet! Fondue is dark chocolate, which compliments bitter and sweet marshmallows, kiwi, strawberries, etc. fruits on the platter. And an additional fruit would only be charged at $1. It has a great array of fresh fruits and with the thick chocolate to accompany, it's the best way to end the big feast! Dark chocolate with sweets together is just right!

A round of drinks as the final closing was given, spiced up by the cafe's own bartender who gave an explanation to each drink. Mine was a new mix, which I quite forgot the name but it has something to do with lemon fizz, and as a non-drinker, I could finish 3/4 before getting too hot inside, which I hate for now because we're not eating in a cold cold place!

For the menu price which had undergo a big re-adjustment to be more affordable and with the ambiance, live DJ spinning on weekends, this place is hip to be seen and be in.

Photos were taken at night hence the hard flash - not very flattering! Hehehe tongue

Thanks again to manager Kenath Low for giving a special treat and kindly bear with my stupid student pep talks and the laudable OR staff! Anyone must be damn weird in not commenting and joining ORTU. So therefore I suggest you all to join! smile

Hearty Breakfast OK Sep 18, 2010
Categories : Bakery

If you want a fresh morning, you'd run out at by 6am before cars start to pollute the air.
If you'd want a fresh and energizing morning plus indulging your nostril, then Freshly Baked is the place for you to have breakfast!

I've known the place after passing it one-two times OTW to Fair Price, but never really tried (although the smell did invite but since it's a premium bread store compared to plain breads in supermarts, I left it right there). On that day my uncle invited me to have breakfast together picking me up. What surprise did they bring me to Killiney rd. and went in to Freshly Baked!

It was roughly before 9AM arriving, and there was just a table occupied.
Breakfast menu is western style:

There are 3 special breakfast sets to choose from. I usually choose the first set (If i'm not mistaken) consisting of a large-sized sausage which is succulent covered in sauce (the first time I came, the sausage was as long as the plate, but this time round, it's smaller), scrambled eggs, two large sized toasts with jam which is totally filling. The bread, as you know is of premium quality, so the toasts are from their loaf line, from wheat to raisins to cheese loafs. The set comes with coffee/tea, and with the delicious smell coming from behind (kitchen) it's an exhilarating smell to start the day! smileThis set is 9.90$.

The other two sets, one at same price and the other one 13.90$ (if i recall well) has other choices.

it is pretty pricey for a breakfast set (that's why I only come by if my uncle calls me up tongue but their quality shouldn't be questioned. I'm sure the sausage they used are those german ones and their breads aren't as commercially produced with preservatives and such)

After half-hour enjoying my breakfast, more people came by with lots of expats coming in and enjoying their breakfast; it was a full bustle after 9! Should come early as parking space isn't much as well too!

As for their breads, I think almost eeeeverything should be just as nice. The chocolate donut however was just a pass as it was pretty simple. But most of their bread loaves which my sis likes to buy for me are very soft!
