My 1st Sky Dining Experience  Smile Jul 30, 2010
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Singaporean Western | Fine Dining

Last month I was honor to be selected as one of the 5 winners from the first OpenRice Singapore TweetUp contest at their facebook and twitter list on #ORTU. Every week you can participate in their weekly contest to be one of the winners to join the team to an exclusive meal together with other fellow foodie in Singapore.

Although that is not my first time on board the Singapore Flyer but it will definitely be one most memorable experience that I had. This Full Butler Sky Dining starts from either 7.30pm (Check In: 7pm) or 8.30pm (Check In: 8pm) daily with a chance of different menu every two months.

For starter that night, we are having “Marinated Tuna Seaweed Furuke” where the Ahi tuna in Japanese spices was laced with kumquat pommery dressing and accompanied with olive honey tomato and daikon cress. The honey tomato and daikon cress was very appealing for both sight and taste. Overall, this is a great starter, which is also served together with some baguettes of two different toppings.

The Main Course menu for June& July are salmon, chicken or lamb. And my choice of for the Main Course is “Arctic Char Salmon Escalopes”. It consists of two pieces of salmon steak stacked on top of the mashed potatoes patty, asparagus and etc. Beside it, there is a shooter glass with some ginger soya gravy to accompany the dish. The taste quite good but the salmon seems to be a bit too try if you don’t dipped it in the ginger soya gravy.

This can be a great treat for couples to celebrate anniversary events or just to pamper your love one for their love, tender and care. I am sure they will be delighted and filled with joy while enjoying the beautiful scenery and food.

To find out more about this lovely event, you can pop by to my blog for the full review here :

Must Try Carrot Cake Smile Jul 15, 2010

“Lim Hai Sheng Cooked Food - 林海盛熟食” which is located at Block 724, Ang Mo Kio Ave 6. I am sure those who stays around Ang Mo Kio area would have either tried or heard about this stall that is always pack with queues.

Accordingly to the stall owner, Jenny, they have being operating this stall for more than 30 years starting from her father’s generation. And they only focus on selling the "White" Fried Carrot Cake instead of black and white like some other stalls.

The texture of the carrot cake is soft and fragrant with generous amount of beaten egg and salted turnip (cai po - 菜脯) that lift up the overall taste of this simple dish. Accordingly to some of my readers who frequent this stall, they suggested that next round when I pop-by this stall again, I can actually request them to fried the Carrot Cake longer in order to achieve nore crispy outer layer. So if you prefer more crispy texture, you must send in your request while making your order.

Sakae Buddies Smile Jul 05, 2010

Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Sushi/Sashimi | Kids-Friendly

Although we have tried countless of the Chawanmushi from Sakae, but I must confess that this is the first time we order this Unagi Chawanmushi. Imagine have a few pieces of tasty grill eel on top with a cup of smooth and silky steam egg custard. Both Rey and his classmate enjoy this little treat which they called it "pudding".

I am always fascinated by its vibrant colour combination. So start from top right to button left to right we have:-

1) Manago Avocado: Decent amount of sushi rice wrap with a layer of nori sheet and top with crunch of lettuce, slices of green apple, mango and avocado. Mum love this combination.

2) Ebi Fry: Rey's buddy choose this as he loves the combi of deep-fry prawn with rice and wrapped with nori sheet and he finished it in less than 2 minutes..... So I guess it must be really nice, must get hold of one on my next visit smile

3) California: This round, I order the California Tamaki which consists of cucumber, imitation crab stick, avocado and a spoonful of fish roes. Yummy!!!

Komala's Paper Masala Dosai” OK Jul 05, 2010
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Indian | Food Court | Kids-Friendly

Komala's Restaurants are Singapore based restaurants-chain serving Indian vegetarian cuisine for its low priced and high quality of Indian food. There have different branches all over Singapore with stalls located in either Coffee Shop or Shopping Mall Food Courts. There is a Komala's vegetarian stall located at the basement food court of North Point Shopping Center just beside another famous Indian Banana Leaf Biryani Rice.

All along mum and aunt were curious about the taste of Dosai which we always saw a lot of customers ordering it. In short Dosai is actually a crepe made from rice and black lentils which is a typical dish in South Indian cuisine that is rich in carbohydrates and protein. Here we ordered the “Paper Masala Dosai” that is filled with mashed potato and other vegetables like onion and green peas. This is served with coconut sauce (white in colour), onion (green in colour) and sambar (a kind of vegetable stew). The Dosai itself is really paper thin which is crispy on the outside and yet moist and soft when eaten. Overall it taste ok with all the different type of dipping sauce except we find it rather a bit salty towards our taste.

According to those who frequent this restaurant, reservation booking is always recommended to avoid the crowds or waiting time. As we are pretty late for lunch after church service around 2pm, they are barely any large crowds in it. Upon stepping into the Vivo City branch, we are captured by it beautiful interior design with crystals lighting, full-length windows, paintings, dragon statues coiling the pillars and etc. And you can also notice from the photo, even their restaurant name “无招牌” is uniquely engraved on the chopstick as well.

First to be served is this "Steamed Japanese Beancurd with Diced Seafood". Each beancurd is stuffed with fresh seafood like prawn, squid, fish and some mushroom. It is served together on top of the steam egg custard with some green vegetables. The texture of the egg is so smooth and silky that makes it goes very well with the seafood beancurd.

The "White Pepper Crab", the flesh of the white pepper crab was succulent, firm and well-infused with their special concocted white pepper powder seasoning and spring onion which makes it finger licking good. This dish will taste rather a bit spicy for those who can't take spicy food.

The Chilli Crab was fantastic at least it didn’t have the distinct tomato ketchup taste and it is served with the fried mantou. The fresh Sri Lanka crab is cooked in their signature robust chilli sauce flavour with prawn paste, garlic and other ingredients. Everyone loves to dip the deep-fried mantou with the egg sauce which make the taste even better. Since I am not really a crab love and it find it too time consuming eating each parts of it, I rather go for a few deep-fried mantou in the egg gravy.
