Cheese sticks!! Smile May 24, 2011

The nachos ($20) came piled high, topped with oozy cheese, salsa, avocado dip, sour cream and jalepenos. the nachos were crunchy and lightly salted, tasty on their own! it served as a great neutralizer to the overwhelming flavours of the other dishes towards the end of the meal when i was full to bursting.
the must-try fried cheese sticks ($19) which my sister recommended lived up to our expectations wonderfully. an oozy mix of mozzarella, swiss and cheddar cheese encased in crunchy breadcrumbs. absolutely sinful, but lip-smackingly delicious. eat it while its hot and oozy! (:
the two appetizers were enough to fill us up substantially. when the full rack of pork ribs ($54) was served, i nearly baulked at the size. it was a generous serving! (: the ribs were tender and the meat fell off the bone easily. mmm (: and there was extra bbq sauce provided which was great!
the grilled 1/2 chicken ($26) was yummy as well! drenched with the same sauce as the bbq pork ribs, this was another delightful main dish

tea cosy, ten thousand angels and a thousand tales is a three-in-one dining and retail concept store in plaza singapura which is really pretty!!!! (: (: i've been wanting to try this place for a really really long time. finally i had the chance to dine in this pretty place! it's not just the food that matters, the ambience here is what makes the difference (
i've always thought english tea was just so wonderfully elegant and classy. don't you feel like the queen when you sip your tea from beautiful china and have the tiered tray with all the lovely little tarts and cakes on it? ;) tea cosy serves its supreme high tea daily from 2.30pm-6pm at the price of $19.95 for one person, or $29.95 for two. for each person, there is an option of seafood or non-seafood for savoury food, and for sweets, you can chose either english scones or cakes. since we ordered the set for two people, we had the chance to try everything xD oh and there is a choice of drinks too! english breakfast tea, premium coffee or island holiday lemonade.
funnily, the sweets came before the savoury food. the scones were warm, crusty and fragrant, soft inside and embedded with raisins. and it comes with whipped cream, butter and strawberry jam. utterly lovely (:
for the miniature cakes, we had a mango mousse cake, cheesecake and chocoloate brownie. the mango mousse cake was light and fluffy with a thin strip of mango. the cheesecake was nice and pretty light with a nice firm biscuit base. and i loved the chocolate brownie which was dense and well, chocolatey lol
the english breakfast tea came in an adorable tea set complete with sugar cubes and a mini jug of milk. sooooo cute!
the savoury food came on a delicate tiered tray. from the seafood menu there was a grilled prawn cocktail with a lovely chilled prawn atop a bed of coleslaw, a foie gras taster which i really liked, turkey ham crostini, smoked salmon crostini and parmesan toast. i loved the crostinis and toast! (: the crispy piece of french loaf with the topping was just absolutely delicious! (: the non-seafood option included the foie gras, ham crostini and parmesan toast, as well as, baked mushroom which was flavoured with some really interesting spices and stuffed with some little goodie, and a crispy duck crostini. haha the crispy duck reminded me of ikan bilis!
i also ordered a cup of tea cosy hot chocolate ($6.95). it was a nice thick velvety cup of chocolate, and guess what? topped with marshmallows! lol yummy! (:
also, we got a plate of aglio olio ($12.95) to share among us. al dente penne drenched in olive oil with a generous amount of garlic and mushrooms, and a sprinkling of chili flakes. absolutely delicious! (:
this is really an adorable place to have a meal in, with decent food. i loved the english tea, at about $15 a person if you order the set for 2 people, i think it gives a pretty good variety for you to chose from (:

difficult to find, but good food! Smile May 01, 2011

Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Dim Sum

For photos and more reviews, visit http://littlemomentsofmylife.wordpress.com/ (:
started off the meal with century egg & shredded pork congee ($4.20) and har gao ($4.40). these two were probably the most "common" dim sum we ordered! haha. the congee was smooth and tasty, albeit slightly salty. the har gao was absolutely delicious! i was really pleasantly surprised, because i'm usually not a great fan of prawns, but this prawn was really soft and succulent, super yummy! (:
the steamed xiao long bao with crab meat ($4.20) was a unique take on the typical xlb. i nibbled on the skin to puncture a small hole and the juicy goodness oozed out (: awesome!
the siew mai ($4.40) here comes with a whole prawn, and again the prawn was wonderfully succulent and fresh lol
the spicy vinegar sauce dumpling ($4.80) was probably my favourite dish because of the sauce! xD i love anything with VINEGAR haha. and the meat inside was wonderfully soft and tasty!
we got cheated by the Mouth's pan fried har gao ($5.20)! it turned out to be deep fried sad but it was tasty and i loved the sweet & spicy sauce that came with it!
a completely unexpected dish was the pan fried rice roll with X.O. sauce ($6). i thought it would be something like the normal chee cheong fun but it turned out looking like fried kway teow! haha. but the X.O. sauce gave this dish a really powerful kick that added lots of flavour lol
the pan-fried carrot cake ($3.40) was just normal. i guess after trying so many interesting dishes, it would take much more to impress me.
the restaurant also has an extensive menu of ala carte dishes, other than the dim sum. i think i'll probably have to make a trip back here again sometime to try out the other dishes! lol the only two dishes we ordered this time were the stewed spicy sakura chicken in chinese wine claypot and a cod belly dish whose name i can't remember. the chicken was tasty with a fragrant sauce and i loved the grilled garlic in it!! the cod dish was absolutely wonderful lol it came chock full of ingredients besides the fish such as pork belly and tofu which were both yummy, but the soft, succulent fish was definitely the main attraction (:
and we really couldn't resist dessert while we were here (: not with the staff taking the time to convince us of the goodness of this special dessert, the cream of purple potato ($4). it is organic sweet potato with the skin removed, blended to a puree, combined with some "special ingredient" (which i think is water chestnut) and served. it's supposed to be good for the complexion! it was like a wonderful drink which was really yummy!
the presentation of the oh nee ($5.50) and chilled pomelo sago with mango ($4.50) were really pretty!! they came in little glass pots with dry ice. so cute! (:
i rated the ambience slightly low because we were assigned pretty lousy cramped seats (we tried to change seats, but there was not much difference). but what i appreciated at this restaurant was the good service at the end, where one of the staff (i assume it's some manager) came out to talk to us and tell us about the desserts, and after that asked us how our meal was. good service always goes a long way! lol

Better than Nando's! Smile May 01, 2011

It’s such a coincidence that just about a week after I tried Nando’s, I got a taste of Barcelos! The two are pretty similar, specializing in flamed grilled peri-peri chicken. I never heard of Barcelos before actually! I always thought Nando’s was the popular one. But after trying Barcelos, I felt that it was better than Nando’s! (: I’ll definitely recommend it over Nando’s. possibly it was because I tried the wrong dish at Nando’s, but oh well, based on my experience, I found Barcelos nicer (:
the chicken pasta meal ($12.95) consists of the original 1/4 peri peri chicken, served with linguini and homemade pasta sauce. the chicken was beautifully succulent and infused with the wonderful aroma of the sauce.
as with Nando's, there are extra sauces on the side for you to add on to your dish. this is absolutely awesome (since they're not very generous with their sauces haha). the tangy lemon sauce is delicious!!!! the sourness adds a wonderful kick to every dish! my friends and i poured copious amounts of it onto all our dishes - whether it was rice, chicken, fries, etc. niceeee! the other sauce which we loved was the very peri sauce. unlike the mild peri, which was not outstanding, and the supa peri was more...bitter (for the lack of a better word) than anything. the very peri sauce, on the other hand, was spicy, just right, such that we could taste the flavour of the sauce beautifully. (:
the 1/4 chicken meal comes with two sides ($13.90) and this is something else i must talk about! the SIDES! they have quite a range for you to chose from and quite a number of them are notable! (: the fries and potato wedges were a sinful delight! crispy and crackly on the outside (tastily seasoned for the potato wedges) and soft on the inside, they were soooo yummy! and i liked the sauteed mushrooms and potatoes. they were seasonsed with a number of herbs, pretty interesting!
i ordered a side ($2.95) on its own! my amount was HUGE in my opinion - the spicy rice you see here is slightly less than half of the original portion! shocked isn't that a lot?! it had quite an interesting taste. it was not really the chili-spicy type since my friend who totally can't take chili tucked into it happily, but rather the spice-spicy type. one of my friends commented that it kind of tastes like nasi briyani? not really in my opinion, but close enough i guess!
sooooooo, i highly recommend Barcelos over Nando's. only one gripe would be that while the food is awesomely tasty, it is also pretty salty >.< but it's good to eat once in awhile! xD

very extensive menu! Smile Apr 27, 2011

when i saw the menu of lena's, i was completely blown away. now this is one place that will satisfy any hungry person. or maybe not. because the menu is so extensive, with so much interesting-looking food that it's difficult to just pick one dish! like when my sis said, "i don't know what to eat!" we thought that she meant that there was nothing to eat. turns out it was cos there were TOO MANY things she wanted to eat which was why she couldn't decide -.-
started with a bread bowl of creamy mushroom soup ($8.90). this was really good! the bread had a lovely crispy, slightly crumbly crust, and the inside was lovely and airily soft, and went perfectly with the soup. the mushroom soup was absolute food-for-the-soul, warm, smooth and thick, with chunks of mushroom in it.
i always love being offered choices, so i really enjoyed ordering from lena's menu! firstly, the array of dishes is absolutely mind-blowing, from pastas and pizzas to normal meaty main courses to asian-inspired soup dishes. OMGEEEEEE! (: for the pasta, there were so many things to chose! first, decide on your pasta of course. then you have a choice of four sauces (some types of pastas have less options though!) - tomato, cream, spicy aglio olio and black pepper. then you can chose to have either spaghetti or penne. additional options include adding $3 to make it a baked pasta (cheeeeeeeeeeese! <3) or $1 to add an egg yolk to your cream pasta. mmm so yummy and fun! (: oh and you can add $5 for any dessert which is less than $7.50 or add $6 for a glass of housepour wine/half pint of Hoegaarden draft.
so anyway, my sis ordered the bacon & mushroom pasta ($13.50), aglio olio, penne-style. it was extremely fragrant (: (: each piece of penne was cooked wonderfully al dente and coated with a film of oil. it was super duper spicy though! i would have preferred if they didn't add pepper to it. i wonder what is the difference between the aglio olio and the black pepper sauces then? xP but it tasted good anyway!
i ordered the soft-shell crab pasta ($15.90), tomato sauce spaghetti. haha i asked the waiter whether the pasta i chose would go better with tomato or aglio olio sauce and he recommended the former so i went with it! (: and it was a pretty good choice! the tomato sauce was t-t-tasty! (: and the soft-shell crab was awesomeeeeeee! deep-fried (sinful! but i don't care tongue) and crispy and yummy. need i say more? definitely recommend (:
my parents shared the premium pork rib ($32.80) which comes with two sides. hmm i think the variety of sides here is pretty uncreative (i mean, look at the rest of their menu!!! shocked haha). the two they chose were the pilaf rice (which was infused with garlic, nice!) and coleslaw. the ribs were nice and succulent with lots of cartilage which was so fun to chew on lol
and although i was absolutely full to bursting (i finished all my noodles! shocked), i just had to order dessert! the dessert has an entire menu to itself!!!!! lol so exciting. see why i HAVE to come back again? so many things i have yet to try!!! i ordered the peanut butter sundae ($8.20) because 1. i love peanut butter and 2. i wanted the waffle crackers xD loved the crackers! but i was slightly disappointed with the ice cream though >.< it didn't taste very peanut butter-ish >.< but maybe it was just me. the rest of my family loved it because of the subtle peanut butter taste -.- oh well, i'll just stick to the real thing i guess! the whipped cream on top was beautifully light, and there was this funny sweet liquid at the bottom of the glass which i didn't try.
the marshmallow brownie hot pan ($12) looked gorgeous. chocolate brownie drizzled with a creamy hot chocolate fudge, topped with a handful or marshmallows and served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. i absolutely adored the fudge! creamy, thick and gooey, it made the brownie so wonderful. but, the brownie on its own was unfortunately, disappointing. without the sauce, it seemed lacking, not moist enough.

Spending per head: Approximately $15
