Delicious cakes, but tiny Smile Dec 08, 2013

Kki has been around for quite awhile, and i've long wanted to try this place! it's located in the ann siang hill area together with The Little Drom Store, which is a shop selling quirky little knick-knacks that are pretty cute! (: i have to say that this space is really small though! i was beyond surprised when i saw it actually. hahaha. i thought it would be some upstairs-downstairs kind of concept, but it's all really in one space. and i think the seating capacity is less than 20? so you might have to be prepared to wait if you plan to go there.

honestly, i was a tad disappointed when i was there. although it was a lovely space and the cakes were quite yummy! (: i'll tell you why along the way.

tiramisu: a very light mousse-like cake. dig deeper for the alcohol!! lol

souffle milk tea cake: a very unexpected flavour (: it possessed a slight hint of a tea aroma and was very light.

strawberry cake: the sweetest of the three. even though the texture was mousse-like, similar to the other two, the strawberry flavour was infused into every bit of the cake (:

i was surprised that the cakes were SO tiny. and for an exorbitant price of around $8-$10 if i remember correctly. and when we reached there at 4pm, they told us to order asap because it was their last round of cakes...but they're supposed to open till 7pm? O.o i wonder what they're gonna do if they sell out before then! the service was also a little iffy. i mean, in general it was pretty good because the staff helped us to get an extra table and chair because of our large group, but at times i felt that they were just a teeny bit rude.

also one thing to remember is that these japanese cakes are really light! because of their mousse texture, they're very airy and aren't substantial at all. i guess for a lady-like tea they'll do ;) but the staff actually recommended us to get 3 cakes for 2 people. i'm not telling you not to visit this place, because their cakes were undoubtedly tasty. but just keep these things in mind, and manage your expectations, and be prepared to spend.

i headed down to Barossa to check out the one for one promotion (: i believe it's till the end of the year! the most value-for-money if you ask me ^^ they have one, two and three-course set lunches, and if you get just the main course, it's at $10++, which means after the 1-for-1, you pay about $6nett. o.m.g. how affordable is that??!! only slightly more than what you'll pay at the food court opposite school, and you get restaurant food plus an awesome view.

i got the blue mussel aglio olio (i think that's the name) which was extremely fragrant, with a generous dash of garlic, just the way i like it ;) the mushrooms fried with it were delicious as well! i found the mussels a little too fishy though :/

i quite liked the gourmet beef burger! (: not sure whether the size is sufficient for a guy, but it looked pretty good to me! and the beef patty was pretty tasty, though i would have liked it to be a little juicier. it came with a generous serving of thick-cut fries as well.

overall, i wouldn't say the food is super good, but it's definitely decent, and for the price, what's there to complain about? lol be prepared for a crowd though! the staff are pretty shorthanded, so you might have to wait a little to get their attention, but other than that, it's a really nice place to chill and enjoy an affordable lunch (:

Roland Restaurant was one of the 4 most famous Chinese restaurants in Singapore, along with Red Star and Lai Wah if i'm not wrong! (: i have no idea which is the last restaurant which completes the quartet though! tongue since we were in the east on sunday, we decided to pop by Roland for dinner (: haven't eaten there for quite a long time! but the one thing that stuck in my head since my last visit was that their rice is of super high quality!!! seriously! i had never tasted such nice white rice before! this time when we went to the restaurant, we didn't eat rice (because we ordered hor fun instead), but i'll never forget how the rice was just so fragrant and tasty just on its own. shocked

first dish we ordered were the salad prawns! crispy prawns slathered with sweet mayo, on a bed of honeydew and cucumber, and BEST OF ALL, topped with fried/roasted walnuts! this dish was really awesome! (: i loved it dipped in the chili provided as well (:

i don't really know what the vege dish was called, but it's like mini xiao bai cai, in this really yummy sauce-soup base and topped with huge chunks of grilled garlic. the sauce was superbly tasty, and very nutritious. i was so tempted to drink it all up xD and the grilled garlic on top was nicely crunchy and tasty. forget garlic breath! tongue

i was somewhat disappointed with the sweet and sour pork here. considering it is such a common dish, which typically tastes good everywhere, i would have expected more from such a good restaurant. Sadly, i felt this dish was just mediocre. the chunks of pork seemed rather hard, rather than crispy.

the beef hor fun was saucy and fragrant, and this is probably one dish that is difficult to go wrong (: the slices of beef were nice and tender!

ordered orh nee for dessert! but i was kinda disappointed with it. the yam paste itself was nice, but because it was in some sort of corn sauce (which i don't really like!) so it didn't really appeal to me xP

Love the salad & garlic rice! Smile Oct 08, 2013

Sushi Tei's sashimi salad ($9) drizzled with Sushi Tei's SECRET RECIPE sauce is mind-blowingly awesome!! lol the veggies are fresh and crisp, and the sashimi is just lovely. there are a few types of sauces for you to chose, but why go for the others when the sushi tei sauce is just soooo good?

another big draw for me at sushi tei would be their fried garlic rice ($8). i have found no other place which is able to produce garlic rice of such high standards. so far, in my opinion, it is unbeatable. but please please comment and tell me if you know of any awesome place to rival this ok!! (: (: the garlic rice here is so fragrant, you can't help but salivate just smelling the dish. yummm! every moist grain of rice is suffused with the aroma of garlic. the red ginger slices and other ingredients just add to the flavour of the dish.

usually we order a plate of sushi to share when we come here, but it is not the main attraction, unlike the two lovelies above (: nevertheless, i like sushi tei's interesting take on sushi. they have a few interesting ones like the golden roll ($14) we ordered this time. it's sushi containing a nicely fried king prawn, wrapped with mango and topped with fish roe! the sweetness of the mango and savoury prawn go surprisingly well with each other, and this is a lovely dish to behold. the presentation is so pretty! (:

and of course, we can never miss out teriyaki when we're at a japanese restaurant! i just LOVE that sauce! (: we ordered teriyaki salmon ($10). there is also the option of shio salmon, but why would you just want a salted fish, when you can enjoy the sauce-y version?! okay, maybe it's just me. i love and NEED sauce ;) which is why i loved this dish because the amount of sauce was so generous! and the fish was cooked just perfectly, nice and soft lol yum!

yummy crispy prata Smile Oct 08, 2013

.com (:

the garlic prata ($1.50) at Casuarina is awesome - it's the best garlic prata ever! it doesn't have the bits of garlic usually found in garlic prata, but the smell and taste is completely infused into this paper-thin, ultra-crispy prata!! it's superb! the only problem is that it is slightly difficult to cut...?

the crispy prata kosong ($0.90) is lovely - compact and fried to crisp perfection (: need i say more?

i haven't eaten thosai for the longest time! there was a period of time where i was off-prata (don't ask me why, it's ridiculous) and i ate thosai instead when i went to any prata place. i sort of miss it, but i love prata so much more that i can't bear to order thosai instead! tongue but paper thosai ($2) is nice! when it's crispy. sometimes it's kinda disappointing >.< but today it was nice! (:

the waiter was kinda blur though. after taking our order, he repeated our drinks order but still got it mixed up in the end -.-
