German POTATO Cheese.. in a fish! Smile Jan 31, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Japanese

I have been passing by this outlet for many times which always spots a really long queue. Something caught my eye: The german potato cheese the other day.

Placed in a thermal warmer, it was a great way to keep the food warm and delicious!

I succumb to my hunger pangs and decided to order the German Potato cheese and mind you, it was EXTREMELY FREAKING DELICIOUS. I'm so excited talking about it now because the potato that was oozing out had a taste of delicious onions in it and the cheese melted in my mouth.

I really love the shape of the fish which is quite a popular kind of dessert in Japan (they put chocolate in it!)

I think I'm really addicted to it. I guess I will buy this german potato cheese every time I'm in ION in future!!!

The down side is this: the service is terrible. The guy was preparing and cooking and he saw me there, asked me to wait. I waited for really long and decided to try another counter before he finally walked over.. he was just pretending to be busy. Really pissed at him!

Hot Star in the East! Cry Jan 31, 2014

Categories : Taiwanese

I recall eating a huge chunk of chicken in taiwan.. and their brand was also blue in colour. I was really excited when I saw that it has come to Singapore!

While visiting my friend in aljunied, I bought a chunk of chicken as i wait for him.

i was deceived by this garlic-powdered chicken (SGD3.80).. thought it was really huge but half of it was actually bone.

their service is horrifying because they don't have a service that helps you to cut the chicken (no such service is available). HOW to eat such a huge chicken like that?

it was too hot for me to hold.. the chicken chunk was already out of the plastic bag. i can't eat, can't even hold.. have to endure the painful scalds!

not as nice as taiwan.. don't think i will buy again. there was too much oil oozing out.. they should drip the oil before selling.

Spending per head: Approximately $4(Lunch)

Mini chicken-pie for takeaway Smile Jan 31, 2014

Categories : Bakery

After church on Sunday, i dropped by Rochestor to buy their delicious swissbake mini-chicken pie (SGD3.20) for takeaway and eat while rushing.

Containing pie dough, chicken, vegetables, egg washed and spices, the pie was tart full of flavourful spices exploding in my mouth! It was baked fresh.. but the crust was apparently too oily. There is an aluminium foil tin on the base as well so that it won't get messy while you eat, but the flaky crust makes it a challenge because it will fly all over the place as you walk and eat.

The service was fast and if you want to make your pie warm, you can gladly request for this.. though it'll take some time!

How is Perri Perri doing? Cry Jan 31, 2014

Categories : Portuguese | Steaks and Grills

Nando's have been around for several years, and has the standard drop? Are they rebranding their menu? Well, instead of choosing their usual signature chicken, i've decided to try their pita instead.

The pita with chicken chunk set costs $9.90 and comes with 1 side of my choice. I chose coleslaw and they were really generous with the salad portion. I love the slightly burnt taste of the pita... but it was quite hard. They were quite stingy with their chicken chunks.

anyway, the service was horrifying because i asked the waiter about a particular menu item and what was it and he just shrugged his shoulders and walked away. i thought he might at least ask other crew what the food item was about, but no, he just decided to avoid and walk away. sad

I don't think I'll be visiting the store ever again.

A home away from home. Smile Jan 31, 2014

Categories : Singaporean | Café | Kids-Friendly

Some of the my nostalgic favourites are found in Old Town White Coffee. This is an area of comfort... the restaurant is decorated with old-fashioned looking furniture to retain the traditional atmosphere. Don't expect too much from their service - the aunties are not trained to be friendly or all that neighbourly towards you.

Signature dishes are plastered on top of the counter if you don't have any clue on what to order. If you're looking for privacy, Old Town White Coffee is not the one for you. With tables and chairs really close to each other, it is easy to listen to a stranger's conversation even if you don't want to.

Old Town White Coffee offers a large variety of food but here are the reviews of what we have eaten and drank!

Food
Curry Chicken Rice - SGD5.80

Curry Chicken Rice - SGD5.80

Curry Chicken Noodles - SGD5.80
Rich and thick in curry, it almost taste like laksa only that the noodles and chicken are different. One can easily peel off the fatty skin from the chicken... the noodles was thick and delicious! The curry had a sweet twist to it and the aroma of the coconut oil used was extremely fragrant, causing me to have a really good appetite and gobble down the bowl of curry chicken noodles.

However, it was a little too oily and I wish they have drained the oil that was on the surface!

Asam Laksa -SGD5.80
It was a disappointing bowl as the broth tasted too diluted. Even though it is very spicy, there was no fragrance coming out of it. The prawns were freshly peeled but too little in portion.. and the noodles looked 'dead' as they hang lifelessly on my chopsticks. This isn't recommended.

Prawn rolls - SGD4.50
These 5 pieces of prawn rolls were deep fried and probably made in-house. It was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Sink your teeth into this crispy roll and you will definitely fall in love with it.. I would recommend this as an after-meal fix instead of a starter because it made me feel like I finished my meal with a bang!

Drinks
$2.50 (Cold), $2.20 (Hot)

$2.50 (Cold), $2.20 (Hot)

Old Town White Coffee sells really awesome coffee and tea that are extremely thick and strong. Costing only $2.50 (Cold), $2.20 (Hot) respectively, I ordered the Yuan Yang (both hot and cold). I would recommend the cold one as it felt like there was more liquid as compared to the hot one.

Things to NOTE for OpenRicers
1. Make your order and payment at the counter as there will not be any waitress to serve you.
2. Try to sit near the entrance as the window seat is quite warm (too near the kitchen). If you're afraid of cold, then go ahead and sit at the innermost parts of the restaurant.
3. The loo is right outside the restaurant (near the NTUC Fairprice Xtra), so it is very convenient.
4. The stools are quite uncomfortable to sit on.. so if you're having long heart-to-heart conversations with friends, this may not be a very comfortable place to go to!
5. Do bring along a packet of wet tissue as the cutlery is placed on the table. There are too many people not washing their hands after visiting the loo nowadays!
