Along the street of Kampong Bahru, one can find this charming and artistic spot that was previously an art gallery. I was being introduced to Old Boys Gallery Tapas Bar & Restaurant, a great place to chill out for a good food and fantastic beer.

Upon entering Old Boys Gallery, I was immediately being attracted to all the fine art pieces that were surrounded the places.

The vibrant colours of the art pieces instantly lifted up my mood. The ambiance made me feel at ease, Old Boys Gallery is a place that you will enjoy with your friends.

Old Boys Gallery is like a mini gallery, bringing Singapore’s burgeoning arts scene to the fore. The art pieces on the wall are for sale. Can't get enough of the art, especially love the art piece on the wall.

Belly Good Burger - $18.90 (newly added to the menu)

This handmade burger definitely will fill our stomach.

Pork belly and onion ring was a great combination. The pork belly was very tender and juicy while the onion ring was deliciously crispy. One bite of both, you will experience a tender juicy crunch. Deliciously good.

Bak Kwa Risotto - between $10 to $20 (newly added to the menu)

Who would have thought risotto can actually pair with bak kwa?

This creative concept came from our Chinese New Year delicacy, Bak Kwa, specially created for last CNY. The savoury of the bak kwa bring out the flavour of the creamy risotto with a taste of sweetness. Suitable for people who want to opt for something simple and not too heavy.

Spam Chips - $9

Trying this for the first time, deep-fried luncheon meat with wasabi mayo. The luncheon meat was fried until it turned golden brown. You can hear the cripsy crunch with every bite of it. We cleared the plate within minutes, leaving the veggies behind.

Potato Head - $7.90

How about dipping the sweet potato fries with curry mustard.

This is super addictive, we couldn't stop ourselves from eating. The secret lies in their homemade curry mustard, it further enhanced the flavour of the fries, bringing a different taste out.

Form Your Own Triplets - $21

You can select any 3 sides from bits and bites at the price of $21. There are 14 selections that you can mix and match from.

We have Vongole Bianco served with crispy toast, crispy porky and OBG crab cakes.

The vongole bianco was really spicy. When I took the first sip, I think the spiciness was still bearable. But when you swallowed it, that's when the burning sensation kicked in and linger at the throat.

I love the sassy flavour crab cakes with mango relish and the juicy roasted pork.

Early Grey Cake with Lavender Cream - $7.90

The cake has a refreshing taste with a trace of light early grey and lavender aroma that linger. Suitable for people who prefer not so sweet dessert. The cake was moist and spongy as well.

Coconut Cake - $7.90

This was my favourite dessert, coconut cake with gula melaka.

Gula melaka complemented the overall taste with sweetness added, every bite tasted flavoursome.

Collin's newly restaurant at Balestier Road is the latest outlet and also the largest outlet to date.

The restaurant is spacious and the setting made us feel comfortable. Love the atmosphere.

Suitable for dining with family or small group gathering with friends.

One specialty of Shaw Plaza outlet is that this is the only outlet that offers handmade pizza with their wood stone oven. You can see everything they prepared through the see-through glass.

The pizza menu is only exclusive at Shaw Plaza outlet.

Collin's has come up with a Christmas gourmet specially for this festive season. Let's take a look at what Collin's offer for Christmas. Time to kickstart the feast.

First dish up, winter potato salad with ham and chestnuts ($5.90).

The mustard sauce is a great companion to the potato, it added flavour to it. The potato is good to go with main course too. I like the ham very much, super tasty. Both ham and potato complement each other, one is savoury while the other is sweet.

Handmade 12-Inch Thin Crust Pizza ($16.80) - Frutti Di Mare

Please don't be mistaken that this is a fruity pizza. Frutti Di Mare actually means "Fruits of the Sea", it is seafood pizza that consists of shrimp, squids, mussel and crabmeat.

This was my favourite dish of all. I like the cheesy texture of the pizza and chunks of seafood in every bite. It was flavoursome, delicious and filling. The crust of the pizza was crispy good, you can hear the 'crack' sound when bite it.

Handmade 12-Inch Thin Crust Pizza ($16.80) - Collin's Special

Another pizza with great variety of toppings that include ham, sausage, bacon, onion, capsicum, olive, mushroom, and salami.

I love the cheesiness of the pizza and generous amount of toppings on it. The thickness of the pizza was just right., not too thick and not too thin.

Santa's Baked Seafood Parcel ($11.90)

Unwrap the parcel to a bag of seafood - salmon, mussel, prawn and cauliflower.

It may look hot and spicy, but the sauce was actually tomato sauce.

The salmon was soft and succulent with no fishy taste. It could literally melt in the mouth. Every bite was juicy and flavourful with the sweet tomato sauce. The prawns and mussels served were fresh and tasty.

***

This was the end of our tasting for Christmas Gourmet, time to try on some of their other specialty and hot selling:

Appetizer Platter ($18.90)

Selection of classic buffalo drumlets, pork sausage, tempura squid tentacles and potato noodle prawn roll.

The platter was appealing to me where most of the selections were my favourite.

US Crisp Cut Fries ($3.90)

The fries were crispy and fried till perfection. The fries were tasty by itself, no need to further enhance the taste with any sauce.

Duck Confit ($13.50)

The signature duck leg was slow-cooked to perfection, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. It was served with salad, mashed potato and mushroom. This dish was not an easy dish to master, lots of preparation were done at the backend. This dish was value for money, the places outside are definitely selling at a higher price.

Baked Caramel Banana ($6.90)

This was served with vanilla ice-cream.

The banana was caramelised, it tasted a little bit like goreng pisang. the sweet version of goreng pisang. I love the scoop of vanilla ice-cream. I am a ice-cream lover.

Grand Marnier Orange Souffle ($7.90)

The texture of the souffle was airy and light. Recommend to eat immediately after being served. I could taste the sweet fluffiness of the souffle, it tasted like the combination of egg pudding and cotton candy.

We came over to Collin's with empty stomach and left with bloated stomach.

Majestic Bay Seafood Restaurant Smile Nov 30, 2015

Majestic Bay is definitely the perfect locale for seafood indulgence with your family, friends and corporate partners.

Here's what we have:

Trio prawns combo - Salad dressing/ wasabi mayo/ lemon butter milk sauce.
Price: $38 for 4pax

I love the flavourful pairing of the prawns. It leave me craving for more that I wouldn't reject if there is second plate. Salad dressing sauce is my favourite of all. It is rich in taste and mouth watering.

Steamed, Su Dan fish, rice broth, “Teochew” style.

Upon the first bite, I'm in love with the softness and tastiness of the meat. The soup is soaked with the essence of the fish and is full of flavour, there is no need to dip it with soy sauce. The fish is so fresh and I am pleased with the high quality dish. But there is one thing I would like to point out, be please careful when consuming the dish as there are lots of tiny bones in it.

The signature "Kopi" Crab is the main highlight of the night.

When the crab was flambeed with rice wine and coffee liqueur, our table was immediately filled with the strong aroma of coffee. The kopi crab has got a rich taste of caramel and coffee with the sweetness done to perfection. I must say the dish is innovative, I have never thought of such combination before. It is definitely worth giving a try, your meal at Majestic Bay will not be complete with it

Sautéed, bamboo clams, water spinach, sambal chilli.

Price: $16 for 2-4 pax

$24 for 5-8 pax
Sambal water spinach is my favourite vegetables dish, I will never failed to order this is any restaurant. Simply love the sambal taste.

Sweet’s temptation

甜品诱惑

Price: $20 for 4 pax

A sweet end to the meal. We had the dessert platter which consist of Pancake with Red Bean Paste, Steamed Custard Buns with Salted Egg Yolk, Black Glutinous Rice Dumpling with Yam Paste Stuffing and Shredded Coconut, and Glutinous Rice Dumpling with Fresh Cream Stuffing.

Pancake with Red Bean Paste was my second favourite, it was yummy good.

My favourite of all was Steamed Custard Buns with Salted Egg Yolk. The custard bun was caught in the middle of sweetness and salty. I loved it so much, especially when the filling came flowing out when you bite it - the fusion of salted egg yolk with the bun. It's mouthwatering!!!

Are you already drooling, check out the restaurant now.

Located at level 2 of City Square Mall is Paddington House of Pancakes (PHOP), the world of pancake.

If you love anything about pancake, this is the place for you. PHOP serves authentic pancake from all around the world.

Kiwi lime and lychee ($5)

Yet another refreshing drink that is good for cleansing. The lime helps to boost the overall flavour of the drink that stimulate one's appetite. There was a well balance of sweet and sourness that makes me want to drink it all.

Aussie burger chicken ($16)

The puffins with homemade chicken pattie, onions, pineapple rings, gherkins, tomaoes, grilled cheddar, sunny side up egg & fries.

The sunny side up egg was cooked to perfection with the thick runny egg yolk in it. And if you burst the egg yolk with a fork, you will find the runny yolk came flowing out.

Time for dessert:

Hot blintzes with banana, cheese and peanut butter ($13)

The crepe was filled with banana slices together with cheese and peanut butter. Love it with it is accompanied with ice-cream. I simply love ice-cream so much.

Tiramisu Sundae ($8)

The sundae was filled with warm mini dollar pancake in it.

The pancake was very fluffy in the inner and coated with the tiramisu sundae, it tasted sweet to perfection.

August is the month for Peranakan feast at The Square at Novotel.

The Square is a restaurant located at Novotel Clarke Quay a 4-star hotel situated just besides Liang Court. Take a lift up to 7th floor, The Square restaurant offers a daily Lunch and Dinner buffet with interactive live cooking stations feathering international and local cuisines.

The hip and modern restaurant makes me feel at ease and cosy upon entering. I like the relaxing and elegant ambience.

The Square restaurant international buffet includes Singaporean favorite Dishes like fresh prawns & mussels, roasted meats, homemade Dim Sum, delicious A-la minute Risotto and a wide range of curries with condiments.

Presenting to you seafood on ice. The seafood looked fresh and succulent.

The Square offers a wide selection of astonishing variety of food. Be sure to try each dish.

The crab of the night was black pepper crab.

Different flavour of crab will be served on different days. They have chilli crab, salted eggs and many more.

Totally spoilt for choice when it comes to dessert. There are so many variety of cakes available specially created by their chefs. Aww, so many different flavours of cake. They have devil chocolate, orange with earl grey, mango cake, lemon tart and etc.

A group photo with the lovely and friendly girls.
Thanks Reka for the photo.

I mentioned earlier that in August, The Square will be rolling out their Peranakan buffet line. Our main highlight of the food tasting is to be among the first to sample the Peranakan dishes. Here's what you will be having in August:

Chicken Devil Curry

The Chicken Devil Curry definitely live up to its name, the level of spiciness is no joke. They spice ingredients used was purely chilli padi. It indeed spiced up my appetite, I could feel the burning sensation lingering in my throat and stomach. I can't stop myself from eating despite the spiciness. A love-hate relationship.

Nonya Style Asam Fish (Steamed)

Nonya Style Asam Fish (Fried)

We were being served with steamed and fried Nonya Style Asam Fish. I preferred the fried style because it added a little crunchiness to the fish. The asam flavour was not as strong, it wasn't hot and sour enough to bring our the flavour.

Ayam Buah Keluak

This was one of my favourite dish that night. The chicken was braised in a keluak nuts gravy, giving it a unique and delicious taste. Each bite tasted so flavourful and the chicken was juicy.

Bakwan Kepiting

Instead of the usual pork and crab meatballs, the chef replaced the crab with chicken. The texture of the meatballs were juicy and firm. However for the soup base, it was too salty. If the taste of the soup could be lighter, it will be perfect.

Kueh Pai Tee.

Kueh Pai Tee is a popular Peranakan dish. It has a crispy exterior filled with a mix of eggs, sliced vegetables and prawns. It has a combination of sweet and spicy taste. Indulge in the mouthful of crunchiness.

Babi Pongteh

The chef used pork ribs together with fermented soya beans to make Babi Pongteh. The pork rib was very tender and the flavour was well mixed with taste of sweetness and a hint of saltiness.

Traditional Nonya Kueh

We had the traditional cakes and colourful pastries to round up our sumptuous dinner.

Meet the man behind the scene.

Thank you Chef Kishen for preparing such a sumptuous spread. Little did you know, he was being trained by a Peranakan master previously.

A surprise dish prepared for us by Chef Jimmy.

The oysters fritters tasted heavenly delicious. It was fried till perfection in order to get the fluffy and crunchy taste. Coated with chilli sauce, it enhanced the flavour of the oysters, bringing the shiok level to the max. Having just one is seriously not enough for me!!!

Come celebrate SG50 with Peranakan buffet at The Square @ Novotel.

The Peranakan buffet is available during dinner for the month of August.

Daily dinner Bbffet: $58++ (6.00pm to 10.00pm)

Weekend lunch buffet: $48++ (12.00pm – 2.30pm)
