Unique lu wei in SG Smile Sep 29, 2011

Categories : Hawker Centre

This is definitely one of its kind in Singapore. I do not know where else can we find similar dish.

The stall offers 1/2/3 person share of shi lu wei (small/,medium/large) + rice, 1 person share of shi lu wei with noodles. Another plus point is the stall owner will cook each share one by one, despite long q of earger waiting patrons.

The gravy/soup is reddish and tasty to the max with a nice hint of seaseme seeds. Ingredients differs depending on the size of shi lu wei. Ingredients include veg (i think is kang kong), dried beancurd, chinese mushroom, chicken wings, cuttlefish, pig skin, chicken, tau kee etc etc.

The chilli goes well with the whole meal.
Overall, unique and must try !

We were at IMM again, and decided to try out this Japanese resturant for dinner.

I remember there is another of this outlet at Vivo and was long Q during weekday lunch hours.

This one at IMM is relatively lesser crowd during weekday dinner time. Hence we were shown to a table promptly.

We had ramen promotion sets. The taste of the ramen is slightly above average but at similar price range there are better taste ones. Soup taste quite "regular" and did not leave much impression on me. The boiled egg was not quite up to my standard (watery yolks, fragrant whites), theirs was totally cooked.

Overall, with the set menu price, its worth a try.

above average ban mian Smile Sep 26, 2011

Decided to try this stall's ban mian as I had tried their fried hokkien mee before.
fried hokkien mee was not too bad but not the best i had tasted, can try out yourself smile

the stall owner , middle age man and supposing his wife, quite friendly people.

The bian mian had many ingredients, which is a pleasant surprise given the price $3/bowl. They gave one chinese mushroom for each bowl, not that common for ban mian. The noodles are cooked just nice with the right softness. Soup is tasty with not that much MSG. i like the ikan bilis, crispy and is a must take with ban mian.

Recommended Dish(es):  ban mian, fried hokkien mee

We were having an old pals gathering and was sourcing for a dinner place where we can sit and chat when we came across this Jap restuarant.

We were shown to our seat after waiting for around 5mins. The restuarant interior is rather big and with about 30% empty seats.

The first experience with the waitress is when taking our orders. The resturant employs Philippinos for the job and this lady serving us has problem taking down the names of the dishes..

I ordered a pot rice stated 20min waiting time.
My friends also placed their orders (supposingly regular waiting time).

The first thing served was a cold sake. We had told the service staff we need 2 sake glasses, however only one was given, hence we requested another. 5mins later waiter came back with 2 warm sake cups, which is not appropriate for cold sake. told them to change, and another 5min to come back to us saying they ran out of the small cold sake glass and tried to give a big soft drink glass! in the end my friend settled with the warm cup.

around 20-30mins my order came and i tot i can start eating. And waiter check if it was my first time taking the dish, my answer yes. "miss, you need to wait for 20mins for the stuffs to be cooked". so my total wait time from order to eating was around 45mins.

fortunately the dish is tasty with quite alot of ingredients. seafood taste fresh.

would recommend this resturant if you can put up with the kind of service level for a premium priced above-average taste jap food.

food court in hdb OK Sep 22, 2011

Categories : Singaporean | Food Court | Brunch | Kids-Friendly

It is lunch time and we visited this food court at commonwealth hdb, next to the MRT.

Unlike usual hdb coffeeshops, this place offers air-condition and a good variety of food stalls - korean, jap, ban mian, zi char, mixed rice, claypot, roast meat, dessert etc

Was attracted by this claypot stall's promotion for seaseme chicken + veg + rice set $6.90. rather ex for a meal in food court.

Anyway, the stall prepares the food only upon order, hence the seaseme claypot is piping hot when served. The chicken meat is quite smooth and sauce taste above average (not too salty).
The veg given makes the meal healtier.
Do not be surprise by the rice bowl... it is huge!
