Yummy Thai Food Smile May 09, 2013

Categories : Thai | Steamboat/Hot Pot

Spicy Thai Thai Restaurant is a highly recommended place to for food food by 1 of my buddy who likes hanging out in Little India during weekdays. Since it's so highly recommended, I decided to give it a try.

The environment: unlike restaurant / cafe concept, not even a coffee shop. It has a very unique alley dining concept whereby all diners are seated in an alley between Wonderlust hotel and coffee shop. Can describe it as a place for authentic Thai tze char smile

The crowd: Surprised to see a handful of Caucasians and a mixtures of locals and Thais.shocked

Am hungry for a meal! Here's the menu to place my order!

My first time coming across this kind of dipping sauce. Not too salty nor spicy, somehow or rather it taste like salty version of peri peri sauce and it has a spicy aftertaste with a numbing effect.

Deep fried pandan chicken! Yummy~licious. The seasoning is just nice and isn't spicy, nor has a super strong lemon grass smell. I love the juicy boneless tender chicken which makes me can't stop after having the first piece. tongue It's a "must eat" dish!

Pork Collar on the other hand, has a chewy texture where the meat are well marinated and evenly grilled till cook...and it goes perfectly well with the dipping sauce. Delicious!

Phad Thai ~ another dish which truly represents Thailand and it's a must eat dish for me whenever I visit Bangkok.
Portion are considered small and seems like chili flakes are missing. Not too bad after all.

Delicious Muslim Food Smile Apr 24, 2013

Categories : Malay | Hawker Centre | Noodles

This stall serve 1 of the best muslim noodle dish which I've had so far and in fact, whenever I eat from this stall, it brings back some teenage memories. Hajjah Mariam Muslim Food has been around for decades and I would always drop by after school during my secondary school days. Haiz....those were the days........

Well, the standard didn't drop till today and till now, there's always a long Q in front of the stall especially in the morning. This stall is famous for their mee siam and nasi lemak and since I always prefer noodle dish, mee siam, mee rebus and mee soto are definitely on my top list.

The best part about the mee siam is the gravy. It's unique has a mild peanut taste. Great!

Another of my favourite mee rebus best serve with bergedel. Wow, the fried mashed potatocoated with thick mee rebus gravy...yummy!
The gravy is fantastic, unlike the starchy gravy other mee rebus gravy has where every mouthful taste like gluey starch with chili. But this is great, make with lots of genuine ingredients, making it thick and rich. Lovely...
Opt out the grind chili if you are not someone who can take spicy food else u will regret. The grind chili here will make u have teary eyes. lolz... But it taste superb in the mee soto soup broth. smile

Traditional Bake Pastry Smile Apr 22, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : BBQ

I'm excited and surprised to find traditional bake pastry at this Fragrance Foodstuff outlet. Usually the traditional bake pastry either comes in imported packages or boxes from Penang or various parts of Malaysia depending on the what are the varieties or goodies the state is famous for.

But what surprise me is that Fragrance foodstuff outlets actually sells those freshly baked pastries and sells in packs of min 10 pcs. My favourite is the Tau Sar Piah where it's also called "Long Zhu Bing / Dragon Ball biscuit (in translation). Yeah, agreed that they do looks like mini dragon balls. Lolz...

i would always go for the salty tau sar piah as compared to the sweet tau sar piah. I love the flavour of the salted mung beans with fried shallots and a mild touch of pepper. Yummy.

The pastry skin isn't too thick nor too dry. Nice! smile

Mee Rebus from Bakery OK Apr 03, 2013
Categories : Bakery

Neither cakes nor bread, puffs nor pastry, pies nor cookies.....which I had. Despite what a bakery or confectionery sells, I has the most unique dish ~ Mee Rebus!

This bakery sells almost everything like cakes, bread, egg tarts, chicken pies and they even sell breakfast. Banana leaf nasi lemak, mee rebus, soya bean milk, green bean soup, gingko barley soup etc... are all available during breakfast time everyday and the shop open as early as 6am.

Nothing special about the mee rebus here..I would say. the sauce taste so "Instant". It taste more like those convenient sauces where you can find in supermarket. Just need to add water and boil...not worth for the price of $2.50.

ICE CREAM! Smile Apr 03, 2013
Categories : Café | Ice Cream and Gelato

Writing food reviews or reviewing the ice cream standard on Tom's Palette is nothing new to most foodie or Openricer but I would still love to comment on it as 1stly, there are plenty different flavours of ice-cream, 2ndly, taste and choice of ice-cream depends very much on individual, 3rdly, this is my 1st visit after hearing so much about Tom's Palette and I've been wanting to try their creation since ages ago....

Since the next day is Good Friday and 1 happened to be in the vicinity while church visiting, I decided to check out this ice-cream parlour with my friend.

From far, I see a group of young students gathering in front of the fridge...Wow, seems like the place is packed on eve of public holiday. Despite the huge crowd in front, the friendly service staff greeted us warmly and introducing on their new flavours. they are super friendly and offer to let us sample some ice-cream even though we did not request for. I'm impressed by the way the staff are being train and they do know how to handle customers and introduce the flavours accordingly to customer's preference.

My friend tried the chocolate sorbet and before she can express her dislike on it, the service staff ask her is it because she prefers a creamery choice hence finds the dark chocolate sorbet too dry for her liking? True enough, my friend felt the same way and was offered to try chocolate banana.

My selection: Mocha Macnut & Chocolate Sorbet
Friend's selection: Salted Egg & Chocolate Banana

I'm a coffee and and dark chocolate lover hence the ice-cream which I've chosen are suits my taste perfectly. Dark chocolate are isn't too dry and they mild sweet...guess the % isn't that high. Mocha Macnut is well blended whereby it's not too overwhelming with coffee taste & I can still taste the fragrant of oily macadamia nuts. smile

Salted Egg shockedshockedshocked my 1st time tasting salty ice-cream! Isn't ice-cream supposed to be sweet?! And of all flavours... salted egg? the though of it reminds me of eating Teochew porridge! Lolz...But to my surprise, it taste GREAT! Simple fantastic..throw away the thoughts of real salty egg yolk as it TOTALLY doesn't have the flaky oily egg yolk nor super salty egg white taste. In fact, it's a well blended creamy yolk taste with a mild saltiness minus away the egg stink smell! Great!

Besides the great taste, friend service staff, another factor which i like is the REASONABLE PRICE. Considered cheap as compared to other artisan ice-cream. Less that $$ and i get to eat 2 different flavours. What's more, polytechnics and universities students gets additional 10%! smile
