This was my first visit to California Pizza Kitchen, and would be my last.

I ordered a shrimp roll as appetizer, which tasted like vietnamese spring roll.

I ordered a thin crust pizza, which was hard and not cheesy, and tasted like indian naan.

I ordered a blue crab cake pasta, and the pasta tasted sour-ish, and the blue crab cake tasted like something from old chang kee. The only food which agreed with my taste buds was the asparagus.

The food seems to be a fusion of flavours, and not "western" as I had expected.

Blackforest Cake OK Jun 19, 2011

Bought a cake using birthday vouchers from Orchard Central (Thank you, Orchard Central~!), for my own birthday!

The cake box looks like cheap cardboard. The blackforest cake looks good, and tastes good (but not great). The sponge part of the cake is quite hard and soggy, not soft and fluffy. The cream part of the cake is typical of the usual blackforest cakes, with quite a bit of cherries.

I don't really fancy hard cakes (like brownies), so I won't buy it again.

I've been visiting Tao's for a few years. I always remember leaving the place feeling full and satisfied, as if I've just had a buffet. However this time, I noticed that the portion for some of the dishes has shrunk slightly. Nonetheless the price remains affordable, the standard of the food remains high, and the service remains excellent.

They do change their menu every now and then, so that even regular customers can have new dishes to look forward to for every visit.

If you've never been to Tao's, I highly recommend you to try out this place. smile

I have regular cravings for the claypot rice at Marina Food Loft. There's a queue most of the time. You can always expect generous portions of chicken and well-done claypot rice. Do remember to stir the rice and chicken once you lay down the tray on your table to avoid burnt rice! Somehow, I always manage to get nicely cooked rice that is crisy but not burnt! smile

This visit, I tried their tom yum seafood soup, and I do not recommend it. Shall just stick to their signature dish (claypot rice) from now on.

The internet reviews for Mad for Garlic is quite good, so I seized the opportunity to try it out when I saw a deal site offering $30 voucher for $15.

I tried out their sweet pepper stick ($32.90) while my hubby had the seafood pasta ($19.90). Also shared a wine ade.

The sweet pepper steak tastes great, but not too filling as the usual sides like mashed potato and salad are missing.

The seafood salad has generous portions of fresh seafood, but (again) not too filling as the pasta portion is just enough for a lady.

The wine ade is a mixture of red wine and sweet soda (or is it syrup), and it's one of the nicest drinks I've ever tasted! In fact, I'm planning to learn how to make it myself after tasting it here.

Overall an enjoyable experience. Only regret is that I should have bought 2 vouchers instead of 1!
