Jerry's BBQ & Grill Smile Jun 22, 2011

Categories : American | Steaks and Grills | BBQ

Had a severe craving for BBQ wings on a saturday evening and the first name that came into my mind was Jerry's Barbeque & Grill at Jalan Kayu. I headed there with my fren and we had a table outside along the alleyway and what a sight!! - lizards crawling all over on the wall behind us! Well at least we didn't feel any mosquitoes kissing us that evening.

The clam chowder that came in a bread bowl started the evening well. The buffalo wings came in 3 levels of spiciness - intermediate level was what we ordered as it's been years since the last time I patronised the outlet so we didn't want to order the advance level and burn our tongues! Big mistake!!!!! It was not that spicy after all. Nevertheless, it still did some justice to our cravings.

Mee Suah Smile Jun 22, 2011

Categories : Hawker Centre | Chinese Soup

Famous for it's black chicken soup, my first impression of this zhi cha stall is nothing close to how good the food actually taste! Plates of different types of fishes in various sizes are placed out in the open and you pick what you want directly from the display! Being a clean freak, that was definitely not very pleasing to the eyes. Nevertheless, I decided to give it a try and the steamed fish in HK style is brilliant.

There is always a long queue at the stall and you see the waitresses serving bowls and bowls of brown soup. When you actually get a clearer view of the contents, you will realised it's actually another of their famous dish - Kidney Mee Suah in Herbal Soup. Nothing beats eating this on a rainy day, with chilli padi, you will go home a very satisfied soul !

Megumi Jap Restaurant @ Siglap Smile Jun 22, 2011

Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

Tucked between an Italian Restaurant and a Clinic, this simple and cozy Jap Restaurant serves excellent Japanese Food. The menu houses a wide spread from Sashimi to Ramen to Handrolls etc, including premium sashimi that is airflown from Japan.

They have an alfresco and indoor air-conditioned dining area. I prefer the outdoor sitting as I wasn't comfortable with the noise level becos the restaurant is small and it's always full-house and very noisy indoors. In addition, I can bring my little maltese to this joint and have her sit on the chair while dinner takes place.

The 1st time I went to Megumi, the fren who brought me there ordered the Big Prawn Fried Rice. I was taken aback by his choice as it didn't look more special than the fried rice you get at any Zhi Cha Stall BUT it was one of the best fried rice I have eaten. You can taste every individual grain that is fried with just the right sauces and the prawn used is very fresh. The UFO maki is a must try too. Some people find the pricing a little steep but good things don't come cheap ay! They don't have credit card discounts but from time to time, they do sell S$200 dollars vouchers at 20% discount i.e. pay only S$160! Pretty good deal for people who dine there often so keep a look out for that!

Arnold's Fried Chicken Smile Jun 22, 2011

Categories : Fast Food | Halal

I have heard that there is a good fried chicken at the prawn fishing place at Pasir Ris but have never tried it. Went to a friend's house for dinner and found out he ordered Arnold's Fried Chicken for dinner. When we are about to start dirtying our fingers, the hosts went "Have you all tried this fried chicken before? If you haven't, you'll love it and you will not think of other fried chicken after this!".. and love it we DID.

The meat is simply fresh and juicy and the marinate is superb. However, I was a little disappointed with the side dishes. The portions were small and the taste was not fantastic and the meals did not come with a drink so it's a little more pricey that KFC, Popeye's or Texas. Having said that, being a fried chicken lover, that did not deter me from the great Arnold's fried chicken which I had 3 times that week!

Kay Lee Roast Meat Smile Jun 22, 2011

Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Coffeeshop | Roasted Meat

I have been eating the roasted meats from Kay Lee Roast Meat Joint for many years now. The meat from this joint are marinated in herbs and the taste is simply unique. The skin of the roast duck is crispy and the meat is tender and the char siew is one of the best in town. Take a piece of the semi-fat char siew and dip it in sauce and savour it! Omph! That's the expression I get from the numerous people I have recommended this dish to. It's very difficult to find good roasted meats and this is one of the better ones around.
