I have always eaten chocolate cakes plain - spongy ones, fudgy ones but just wasn't sure why I always hesitated at the thought of banana chocolate cakes.. I guess banana was at the rock bottom of the list when it comes to fruits!

I had to go for a gathering and was driving along Katong and decided to drop by Awfully Chocolate to buy a cake. The Chocolate Banana cake came highly recommended and I thought since I have been buying plain chocolate fudge cakes for the longest time, will just buy something different for a change. Dessert time came and I took a bite into the tiny piece which I requested and realised the Chocolate Banana cake wasn't as sweet as the All Chocolate version and the banana actually blends in well with the chocolate. Not that bad afterall!

Por Kee is a traditional chinese eating house that is slightly better than zhi cha stalls which you find in coffeeshops. Most of the waiter and waitresses are uncles and aunties who are in their 50s. Right in front of the restaurant is an open-air car park and tables are usually set outside in the evenings. It's usually breezy in the night time as the surroundings are all low-rise buildings.

Their signature dishes are champagne pork ribs, homemade tofu and thai style fish - the 3 main dishes which I normally order when I am there with a group of friends.

Famous for it's black chicken soup, my first impression of this zhi cha stall is nothing close to how good the food actually taste! Plates of different types of fishes in various sizes are placed out in the open and you pick what you want directly from the display! Being a clean freak, that was definitely not very pleasing to the eyes. Nevertheless, I decided to give it a try and the steamed fish in HK style is brilliant.

There is always a long queue at the stall and you see the waitresses serving bowls and bowls of brown soup. When you actually get a clearer view of the contents, you will realised it's actually another of their famous dish - Kidney Mee Suah in Herbal Soup. Nothing beats eating this on a rainy day, with chilli padi, you will go home a very satisfied soul !

I remember going to Long Beach regularly when they were back at Bedok Corner when it was one of the family's favourite dining restaurant in the 80/90s. One visit to their east coast branch few years back did not leave an impression so I have not dined there in years!

The recent visit to Long Beach @ Dempsey brought back some faith. One of my acquaintances suggested heading there when we arranged to meet for dinner one evening as her company host dinners there very often. Out of the set menu we ordered, I like their Steamed Clam with Minced Garlic, Fruit Sauce Chicken and Chilli Crab. However, even though we were seated in a private dining room, the noise coming from all over the restaurant was disturbing and the service level wasn't fantastic. Getting a car park lot is also an issue as the place is always packed.

Had a severe craving for BBQ wings on a saturday evening and the first name that came into my mind was Jerry's Barbeque & Grill at Jalan Kayu. I headed there with my fren and we had a table outside along the alleyway and what a sight!! - lizards crawling all over on the wall behind us! Well at least we didn't feel any mosquitoes kissing us that evening.

The clam chowder that came in a bread bowl started the evening well. The buffalo wings came in 3 levels of spiciness - intermediate level was what we ordered as it's been years since the last time I patronised the outlet so we didn't want to order the advance level and burn our tongues! Big mistake!!!!! It was not that spicy after all. Nevertheless, it still did some justice to our cravings.
