Chocolate Banana Cake OK Jun 23, 2011

I have always eaten chocolate cakes plain - spongy ones, fudgy ones but just wasn't sure why I always hesitated at the thought of banana chocolate cakes.. I guess banana was at the rock bottom of the list when it comes to fruits!

I had to go for a gathering and was driving along Katong and decided to drop by Awfully Chocolate to buy a cake. The Chocolate Banana cake came highly recommended and I thought since I have been buying plain chocolate fudge cakes for the longest time, will just buy something different for a change. Dessert time came and I took a bite into the tiny piece which I requested and realised the Chocolate Banana cake wasn't as sweet as the All Chocolate version and the banana actually blends in well with the chocolate. Not that bad afterall!

Crab Bee Hoon @ Toa Payoh Smile Jun 22, 2011
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Seafood

If you like the famous crab bee hoon in AMK but dislike the never ending queue, this will be a quick fix for you. The branch at Toa Payoh is less crowded but quality is pretty much the same as that or sometimes better than the main outlet.

The crab bee hoon here is as usual the main dish but I also love the sharks fin soup . Dishes to try out will be the Seafood Tofu and also Salad Prawns. Along the way to the car park, there is a fruit stall that sells seasonal fruits like durian, mangoes etc where you can pick up some to bring home as dessert.

Crab Bee Hoon @ AMK Smile Jun 22, 2011

Mellben Seafood used to reside opposite Serangoon Interchange and they shifted to AMK a few years ago. I used to go there at least once a month when it was in Serangoon and then I visited them 3 times at AMK.

As much as I like the crab bee hoon, the first time when I came to the branch in AMK was a disappointing experience in terms of environment. They later renovated the place and it's now a more pleasant place to dine at. However, I dislike the long queue at this branch and later found out they have another branch at Toa Payoh and decided to try that out.

Por Kee @ Tiong Bahru Smile Jun 22, 2011

Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Hawker Centre | Zi Char

Por Kee is a traditional chinese eating house that is slightly better than zhi cha stalls which you find in coffeeshops. Most of the waiter and waitresses are uncles and aunties who are in their 50s. Right in front of the restaurant is an open-air car park and tables are usually set outside in the evenings. It's usually breezy in the night time as the surroundings are all low-rise buildings.

Their signature dishes are champagne pork ribs, homemade tofu and thai style fish - the 3 main dishes which I normally order when I am there with a group of friends.

Big Fish @ Siglap Smile Jun 22, 2011
Categories : Restaurant | Kids-Friendly

I was never a fan of fish because I was choked by fish bones twice when I was younger. I had to dine at Fish & Co a few times as I needed to attend some lunch and dinner gatherings but was never impressed with the food there.

One day, a customer of mine wanted to have fish for lunch in the east and we were brought to Big Fish at Siglap. It was a quiet afternoon and there wasn't much customers around so the first impression of this place wasn't that great. I placed an order for a snapper dish and the others had fish & chips and also the seafood platter. Every dish that came out from the kitchen was created with passion, the taste was great and the seafood were fresh. I was caught by pleasant surprise that I would actually fall in love with fish all over again!
