I have heard good reviews from my friends and decided to give it a try myself. We were advised to make reservations and true enough, when we arrived, the restaurant was already packed. We waited for a few minutes while they set up the table.

We ordered the "yuan-yang" steamboat, Ma La (spicy) and Chicken soup with Preserved vegetables. The chicken soup was awesome! I'm usually a fan of spicy soup base but Chong Qing's chicken soup with preserved veg really won me over. Its a must try if you are visiting them.

The interesting part of their buffet was that they served cooked food such as Xiao Long Baos, Fried Dumpling and sweet desserts. You don't have to worry about the cooked food as they have a "schedule" to serve you the kind of food at different time. For instance, about 10-15 mins after you started, they would serve you the cooked food such as Xiao Long Bao and after about 30 min into your dinner, they would serve the sweet desserts. Apparently, this is the way how the original Chong Qing Ma La steamboat is supposed to be served.

Oh and if you are having the Ma LA soup base, do order their signature Ba Bao Tea. Very refreshing. All the ingredients served were very fresh. The sliced pork, pork dumplings with chives and prawns were really good. smile They also have a special sauce for the food. You are supposed to mix all the 4 types of sauces found on the table. It comprises of sesame oil, peanut sauce, chilli paste and a special light soya sauce.

We went in a group of 6 and we ordered a family size pizza, 3 pastas and gnocchi. The pizza was really huge! It took up almost half of our table as you can see from the picture and surprisingly it tasted really good. smile

We had 3 different pastas, black squid ink, carbonara and alio olio. The carbonara and aglio olio was fantastic, especially the carbonara. It was one of the best I have ever tasted. They were very generous with garlic and olive oil and that was what made the aglio olio so delicious. The black squid ink was pretty good too but it has to be eaten hot, otherwise, it would be quite starchy.

The gnocchi was made up of potatoes and cheese. It tasted heavenly and especially good if you dip garlic bread with the cheesy sauce.

Overall, the food was great and their service crew were really friendly too. I would love to explore again the next time.

I made a reservation for 10 at Ember for a friend's birthday. It's rather unique as they required my credit card confirmation because the restaurant is not very big, if there was no show, they may not be able to fill up the spaces for the night. Thus, I will be charged $65 per pax for no show. But of course, we really wanted to dine there so I went ahead with their request.

We had a couple of appetizers and 2 of them were scallops and foie gras with apple. The foie gras was fantastic! I really love it! They went really well with the apples. The scallops were very fresh but unfortunately, there were only 3.

I had a duck leg confit for myself. The skin was really crispy and it was served with mushrooms and potatoes. The portion is just right for one. My friends had tenderloin and pork belly. The pork belly was exceptionally good. The skin was very crispy and the meat was very tender. It was served with stir-fried vegetables, perhaps to make the dish less sinful. tongue

I wanted to commend their service. Great service as their staff were really attentive. The restaurant was running on full capacity and we had to wait for an hour for the food to be served. Nevertheless, the waiting staff would always ensure our water is filled and would constantly ask if we require re-fill of bread as well. smile

I came to barracks with my girlfriends on a Saturday afternoon for high tea. We thought they served high tea on weekends but unfortunately, they only serve it on Thursdays and Fridays. Nevertheless, they had a brunch menu (but served till 3.45pm) and desserts.

We had a truffle mushroom pizza, strawberry shortcake, pumpkin salad. All tasted really well and their service was rather prompt. I recommend this place if you are looking for a chill and relaxing restaurant for brunch over the weekends. smile

I ordered a pot of lavender kiss(black tea). It was very interesting as they would write the name of the tea on the pot itself. The tea was fragrant and it is definitely sufficient for one pax.

I have heard good reviews about this place and decided to try it one afternoon with my friend. We tried the Shoyu ramen. The soup was really tasty but for those who can't take really salty stuff may not be able to take the shoyu soup base. We ordered an additional serving of the soft boiled eggs. The eggs were really runny and soft, went very well with the ramen. It was a must-have dish with japanese ramen.
