Crystal jade has never failed me...tried the branch at Vivocity and realised they had an awesome view. It faces Sentosa and as I was there on a Friday night, we got to enjoy the fireworks by Universal Studio at 9pm sharp. Extra perk for us! smile

My friends and I ordered salted egg yolk with prawns, claypot egg plant with vegetables, sweet and sour chicken as well as roasted meat platter (char siew, chicken and roast duck). All were satisfying, except the portion for the meat platter was quite little for the 4 of us. Overall, I have never once not enjoyed my meals with Crystal Jade.

The last time when I was there I didn't have the chance to try their signature dishes. So this time we had Steam Fish in Thai Style, Champagne Pork Ribs, Crispy Butter Prawns and Fried Prawn Omelet with "Shang Mee".

The fish was really fresh and they had tom yam sauce to go with the fish. But the sauce would be even better if it was a little bit more sour and spicier. The pork ribs were great. They offered 2 options, the bigger ribs or smaller ones to share. We opted for the smaller ones so that it was easier to share amongst all of us.

The butter prawns were rather crispy on the outside. Quite acceptable. The "Shang Mee"'s small portion was quite generous. Good enough for at least 3-4 people to share. This dish is a commonly seen in all Tze Char places so it is not easy to go wrong. A good alternative to those who don't like rice. smile

A couple of friends and I tried this small Italian restaurant on a Friday night. Reservations are recommended. We had the mozzarella cheese with wild rockets and tomatoes. Quite a refreshing combination. For mains, we had Salami Pizza, Penne Al tonno and Roasted Pork Loin (Special for the day).

The mains were generally good, especially the pasta. The sauce was not too over-whelming. However, the crew were not able to accommodate requests like changing the type of pasta.

We ended the meal with a tiramisu. Very light and not too sweet. Highly recommended. smile

This is one of the must-go restaurant if I have craving for salted egg yolk crabs. The crabs are relatively big and juicy. Their other dishes are pretty decent too. For instance, their signature dish is Marmite Chicken. Their chicken reminds me of those sold at 4 fingers Bonchon chicken. A little sweet and salty.

We had the stir fry kailan with garlic too. Nothing spectacular. If you are into more seafood, try their butter cereal prawns. They are really crispy on the outside and the prawns they serve are really fresh.

It is recommended to make reservations on weekends. They have a few tables in air-conditioned room. So if you want to eat comfortably without any perspiration, do call in for reservations.

best crab beehoon soup Smile Jul 11, 2011

Mellben serves the best crab beehoon soup ever. The soup is super tasty and their crabs are usually huge and fresh. Besides the beehoon soup, their black pepper and butter crabs are highly recommended. The black pepper crabs are on the spicy side..so for those who can't take spicy stuff, you can go for the butter crabs. They are not over-done.

However, the queue for Mellben on weekends is really terrible. I waited 1.5hrs to get a table and another hour for the food to be served. If you really crave for crabs on weekends, please turn up at 5pm.
