I'm not really a morning person so you will hardly see me post much reviews on breakfast. This is one very rare occasion where mum was able to drag me up to go shopping with her at Ikea. She raved about the breakfast and I thought there's no harm trying. I have to stress that we were there around 9.30am so there isn't alot of food left. Mine was the last second set. Not really the best. The croissant was tasteless and cold, the egg was a little too soggy. Took one bite at the hashbrown and set it aside. The only thing I quite like is the ham. It's cold but the most edible food on the plate. Wouldn't want to try this the next time I come....will try something else. Their lunch is good though.

Scrolling through the shops at Vivo and me being forever the "not so hungry" one,we decided to go for something light. Light to me would probably be soup and something else. As I am a great fan of Tom Yam soup, we found just the right place for it. As usual, I asked for window seat.

My partner ordered the phad thai fried noodles with prawns and ice lemon tea. Didn't try as I was too full. So can't comment on it.

I ordered the clear tom yam prawn soup. Didn't like milk of any form to spoil the taste of my tom yam so I went for the clear soup. Moreover, this is what I normally have in Bangkok. The soup is REALLY spicy! Proceed with caution! The prawn is quite fresh...doesn't give you the stale soggy feeling. I ordered the lemon grass drink. Smell and taste exactly like the lemon grass essence you put inside the aroma therapy burner. Very different from what I had in Bangkok. Totally not worth the $5. On the whole, it was ok. We paid for the ambiance, not the food because the food itself wasn't that spectacular.

The both of us spent about $40 for the dinner.

Food court standard beef noodles OK Jan 29, 2012

This is really food court standard (ie. so so standard with a price that didn't fit the food). I tasted better beef noodles in Raffles Place area. I like my beef noodles with really yummy soup and chewy beef slice. They have many different variety of noodles to choose from and of course, you can opt for one with a mixture of meat and insides. I only have the courage to go for the meat ONLY. The soup is blend compared to what I have eaten elsewhere but the taste is still quite ok. Won't say it's bad coz I manage to finish almost the entire bowl of soup. The beef slice is abit light on the color. I was expecting it to be more reddish. Maybe it's a different part of the beef they are using. They didn't cook the kway teow too long so it's not soggy at all. I might go back for a second try.

Not so sweet experience OK Jan 29, 2012

Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Desserts and Cakes

Met up with an ex-colleague to shop in NEX coz neither of us had really walked around that place well enough. And since we both didn't need to work that day, we decided to put our meeting place as NEX. After strolling around that place for a while, we got tired and finally chose this little shop as our resting place....mainly because it wasn't too crowded and we wanted some dessert.

I ordered the mango pomelo sago. Still can't beat the ones I had in Hong Kong. There was a little bit of pomelo, a little bit of mango fruit and alot of sago. I think this should be renamed to Sago with diced mango.

My friend ordered the black sesame paste with almond paste. Nice presentation. Can't comment on the taste because I didn't taste it.

Our dessert.

Flies around our food OK Jan 29, 2012

Categories : American | Steaks and Grills

Jack's Place was never my choice for western cuisine but since my partner chose it for his UOB rewards, I decided to give them a chance.

My partner ordered the steak. No idea what kind of steak he ordered but it was really hard. Maybe because he asked for well-done. Then again, I had well done steak at other restaurants and it didn't take like that.

I ordered the mixed grill. It comes with sausage, lamp chop, chicken fillet, beef steak and bacon. The lamp chop has a very strong taste that I didn't like. Bacon was extremely hard and beef was hard as well. The only thing I like about my food was the sausage. ($19.50)

The service in this branch was quite good. If only they didn't have friendly flies that kept hovering around our table, drinks and food. This is one place I would not go back again.
