Continuing from my previous post.
Salted egg custard bao

Salted egg custard bao

The salted egg custard is not salty at all. There is light sweetness in it and I like how it camouflage itself like a cupcake! Upon taking a bite, you will notice that the entire bun is filled with custard. This is a must have dish!
Black bean chicken feet

Black bean chicken feet

Chicken feet has always been my favorite dish of all. This dish didn't fail me. The feets are so soft I could just put the entire thing in my mouth and pull out the bones without any efforts.
Mango fritters

I didn't taste any part of this dish so I can't comment much but it looks nice though.
Steam jiu cai jiao

Steam jiu cai jiao

Leek that doesn't have strong leek taste. Again this dish is best eaten hot.
Mini egg tart

Mini egg tart

I love egg tarts especially those I have tasted in Hong Kong. This little tarts doesn't taste the same but they came close. I like it that the egg custard is not hard and the pastry is flaky. It's also a good size so that customer can have the stomach to try other food items.
har gao

Big succulent prawns wrapped in soft translucent skin. Need I say more??
Siew mai

Siew mai

Didn't taste this dish too coz we ordered too much and couldn't stuff in any more food. Should have ordered in small quantity next time.
chang shou mian

chang shou mian

Symbolically speaking, a birthday needs to have chang shou mian (longevity noodle). To celebrate mum's 60th birthday today, the service staff actually suggested ee fu noodles as it is easier to digest and the kids can eat. To be frank, I don't like ee fu noodles and will always give this dish up when I attend wedding dinners. But this noodle is surprisingly nice. I finished every bit of it. Could be the mini fried shrimps added into the noodles that gave it the fragrance and yummy taste.

Initially, I find that the service is rather slow. But for some reason, after serving the 4th dish...the rest came faster than we could eat. I reckon it is due to the fact that we have a curfew to meet. We were at the first seating. So our timeslot is from 11am to 12.50pm. So when they are slow in the beginning and fast in the middle, we were forced to gobble down our food. What's great is that the service crew were helpful especially their captain (a guy by the surname of Ong...that's all I could see from his nametag). His explanation to our questions were very satisfying and best of all, he uses our dialect (Cantonese) to speak to us when he heard us speaking among ourselves in Cantonese. There were 11 of us spending a total of S$190+. I think the food is a good value for money. All in all, I will definitely head back to Taste Paradise for a few more visits with my friends.

Porcelain china

Porcelain china

Celebrate mum's birthday today at Taste Paradise. I quite like the food and the environment. The porcelain china utensils are very pretty. Makes the dining experience more unique.

For drinks, we ordered Chrysanthemum tea so that the kids can drink too. The tea came in a very pretty silver pot with a long nose.
Pork ribs

Pork ribs

Pork rib...mini version. They made the meat so tender it melts in my mouth. Not too many of those black bean as it can be quite salty if too too much is added.
Condiments

Condiments

Condiments to go with the congee we ordered. The crispy crackers can be eaten on its own if you don't like them soggy from soaking in the congee.
Fried you tiao in cheong fun

Fried you tiao in cheong fun

Soft on the outside, crispy on the inside. Love it that the sauce is not salty so it's easy on my tongue.
Spring roll

Spring roll

Crispy spring roll that isn't really very oily. You know how some spring rolls tend to be soaked in oil. I like the crunchiness when I bite into the spring roll.
Xiao long bao

Xiao long bao

Those little dumplings are good eaten when it's piping hot coz the skin hardens when it turns cold. Taste quite similar to that of Din Tai Fung.
Scallop cheong fun

Scallop cheong fun

Scallop is said to have wrapped inside the cheong fun. But I didn't taste any scallop. Maybe I should taste this dish again to find out again. But the cheong fun is really soft...simply melted in my mouth. Don't even need to bite tongue

Alright, ran out of space to post pictures. Continue in Part II.

Yummy seafood hor fun Smile Aug 26, 2013

Categories : Seafood | Halal | Zi Char

Nice service coupled with great eating environment and good food. I ordered the seafood hor fun. Didn't take too long for the dish to be served up. I had taken hor fun before with really salty gravy. This one was good. It's gravy complements the dish very well. The seafood was fresh. I could feel the bounciness of the meat when I put them in my mouth. The meal a good size for the price and a good place for fellowship with my Muslim friends. Would definitely go again.

Beary nice bear paws! Smile Aug 01, 2013

Nestled in the heart of where most youths in Singapore come together is a new kid on the block. Actually, I should say...new 'bear' on the block. No, not the real bears but close enough! They call it Bear Bites! This brand is oh-so-famous to those who frequent night markets in Taiwan (It was even featured in Taiwan variety programs). I was honored to be part of the guests for the opening on 27 Jul 2013 at *Scape. It was a rainy day but the rain did not douse out the excitement of both Bear Bites crews as well as hungry people like me.

Bear Bites started in Taiwan back in 2010. While on a holiday in Japan, the founder (Avery) chanced upon a unique fusion concept between Taiwanese steamed buns and Japanese cuisine. An East meets West concept was thus birthed when the idea of creative burger was created. With more than 10 branches across Taiwan within a short period of 3 years, it has not only proven itself to be a success story but a really delicious one too!

Ordering of the burger comes in steps. Yes, you have to follow the rules here. First you choose the meat. There are 2 options to choose from: Karaage Crispy Chicken and Oishi Fish Fillet. I went for the chicken. Step 2, you choose the cute looking pastel colored bear paw buns (they looked like stuff toys...I wouldn't mind having a pink bear paw cushion lol). Options include: Original Milk, Brown Sugar, Yam, Curry, Oat, Strawberry (seasonal) and Squid ink. I opted for milk. The last step was to choose the sauce namely: Mushroom, Sweet & Spicy Thai, Black Pepper, Tartar, Honey Mustard, Golden Cheese. I'm a big fan of mustard so you wouldn't have to guess twice for what I chose! As the burgers are prepared on the spot, mine came piping hot...which just fits right into the rainy weather. The picture above shows Joseph (one of the Singapore outlet owners) making my burger.

I was told that the buns were flown in all the way from Taiwan. To me, this would mean that it is the original recipe. The bun basically taste like chinese man tou, except that it's much softer and slightly sweetened. The thick tomato and lettuce were very fresh and crunchy. The best part of course is the meat! It was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Despite the fact that my honey mustard sauce was spread sparingly across the meat, it didn't soften the crispiness.

My next try was the Chocolate Gelato. This time, I went for the brown sugar bun to compliment my chocolate ice cream. Comes served in little bear paws that is of smaller size than the chicken burger bun. It's a good size for kids. Maybe they should consider having Baby Bear Bites (aka. Happy meal!). Nonetheless, the chocolate was rich and very filling!

Do note that Bear Bites do not sell fizzy drinks, they only have Pokka bottled drinks for health reasons. And I also need to add that the buns are made of organic ingredients.

Please do not mistaken this with Bear Paw Burger in Malaysia. They might look the same but the taste is quite different. Bear Bites comes without the sogginess. Look for the red bear print lantern!

One thing to add, they might want to consider printing 2 receipts. One for the crews to make the order and one for the customer to keep. Coz people with gold fish memory wouldn't really remember what they ordered. So when orders were ready, they didn't know it's theirs tongue

And here's to many more bear paw prints in Singapore! Photo below showing the 2 owners (Left: Avery and Right: Joseph)

Snackers for pre-dinner Smile Jul 30, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : American | Fast Food | Halal

It was another 2 hours before dinner and I was starving. So I decided to go for something light. I normally order the drumstick set if I wanted light meal but this time, I wanted to try the roller set but changed the fries to cheese fries.

The roller tasted yummy. I like the generous amount of melted cheese inside the wrap. In addition to the crispiness of the chicken bits, it gave a nice texture to the entire wrap. Because it is really small, you won't get too full by eating the set. Good for those who are looking for quick bites.
