Still our favorite steamboat Smile Jul 30, 2012

Categories : Sichuan | Steamboat/Hot Pot

We have been visiting their Suntec branch since 2001. Managers had come and gone and now even the branch is gone. Since our favorite hang out is gone, we opted to visit their Tanglin branch (only been to their Tanglin branch about 5 times).

I must confess that I'm addicted to their soup base especially the spicy one. That was probably what brought us back again and again. Find that the ingredients are very fresh too. And because it was ala-carte buffet, we can order the same thing over and over again without paying additional.

The manager back in 2001 told us that to eat the steamboat, we have to mix all 4 sauces together. We remembered till now. Everytime we visit the restaurant, we will delligently remember the sauce.

The meal ended with dessert. We have choices of ice cream and mixed fruits to choose from. All of us chose mixed fruits. We really couldn't stuff in anymore ice cream into our stomach and mixed fruits seems to be the healthier and lighter choice.

As for drinks, we normally go for the 8 treasure tea (cold) coz it's refillable. Only change now is that they have started charging $1 for plain water. It used to be free. Other than that, the standard still remains and we will definitely go back for more of our gatherings.

This place is really not that easy to find. Our GPS even led us into the cargo centre. They put signboards on the roads but it wasn't enough to direct us....nonetheless, we finally found it. As this is our first time dining in this restaurant, we didn't know what to order. So we went for the 2 pax set meal. This wasn't without trouble. The waiter serving us was from China....so either our mandarin sucked or his ears was problematic. We requested for the 2 pax set from the set menu. I then saw from the menu that it was only available for lunch. So I asked the guy if we can have the dinner menu as this was the lunch menu. He took the menu and never came back. We requested for the same thing from another waitress and she explained to us that only one of the sets is for lunch, the rest is available for dinner as well. She was better.

First on the list was the pork ribs. Not really a big fan of pork ribs and this dish didn't change that.

The salted egg yold prawns didn't taste as well as I expected. It is like one is more than enough that kind of taste. I went for a second piece only because I didn't want to waste too much food.

Nothing special about the crackers. I tried eating it with the chilli sauce but it just didn't bring out the taste. I prefer those I have purchased from mama shop.

Love the spinach. Not really a fish person so I wouldn't comment on that. I finish most of the spinach on the plate.

This is probably the only reason we are here. We heard so much about the black pepper crab. Unfortunately, I find it abit over rated. It was as nice as what I thought it would be. I took only one claw and didn't want to eat the rest. Maybe I have tasted other better ones and was expecting the same kind of standards.

This is perhaps the best dish on the table besides the spinach dish. They put crispy rice on top of the fried rice which gives a different feel to the whole experience. The flavor was good as well. It was yummy.

I think this was sago honeydew. It's completely tasteless.

To conclude, I think this restaurant is abit over-rated. I wouldn't go back again. The other interesting thing about this restaurant is that you can actually feed the fishes with milk bottles. As nothing in this world is free, especially in Singapore, you need to pay $4. It's worth a try if you want to know how it feels like to feed a fish with milk bottle.

Cheap Ubin Seafood Smile Jul 30, 2012

Categories : Seafood

After burning in the hot sun for a few hours, we decided to start our early dinner. This was what we had a 4+pm. I had wanted to try another restaurant which I had been before, but my partner decided to go for this one because it was closest to where we were having our coconut juice.

A must have in all our seafood meal is the kang kong. It was really crispy and fresh.

As it was a super hot day, we decided to go some soup with 'cooling' effect. So we had the bittergaurd and egg soup.

This fried chicken wings is super. Have to eat it hot though coz it's crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside.

The last dish served up was the black pepper prawns. I have had black pepper steak, black pepper crab and black pepper almost everything else but not black pepper prawns. I find the taste a little too sweet for me but my partner loves it.

On the whole, it was good value for money. We paid only about $40 for all these plus drinks.

Great pricey food Smile Jul 29, 2012

As we walked in, each diner will be given a card where they charge your purchases to. This is an excellent place to dine in if you want to go for Dutch. Nevermind, that they have alot of Swiss flag hanging around.

The first on our list was the pork. Nothing on the plate except for some light brown sauce. You have to order their sides to make it complete. I like to eat the meat on it's own without the sauce as I felt the sauce didn't quite complement the meat. The thick juicy grilled pork is really chewy.

This little bowl of vege cost me $5.50. Not worth the price but I like the mushrooms so I filled 3/4 of the mini bowl with mushrooms. Only one piece of zuchini left and I took it. They should top of the vege more often especially when they know the stock is low.

Rosti is not my favorite. But apparently, it's eveyone's favorite. Don't get me wrong. They taste quite nice except that I don't really like potatoes. Except for those mushy type that melts in your mouth, I don't fancy an entire dish of potatoes. The sausage is pretty ok.

Root beer is a must especially when it's my favorite brand.

This is Spanish rice and this is the first time I have spanish rice. It looks really messy. I kept on eating the rice so much so that I hardly touch the ingredients they included into the rice. I like the taste and the fragrace.

On the whole, the food was good but a little pricey. For that price, I could have gone to a better restaurant. Just my thoughts.

Snoopy meal OK Jul 26, 2012

Categories : Café | Burgers and Sandwiches | Kids-Friendly

After our dinner, the girlies decided to complete the night with dessert. We walked all over 313 but couldn't find something we like until one of the girls suggested Charlie Brown Cafe. Having been to the one in Hong Kong, I immediately agreed.

First on the menu was the lava cake. It was slightly disappointing. We were expecting the chocolate to be flowing out but it was more cakey then flowy. Another point to note is that the 'lava' wasn't hot.

The drinks were cute. They came with 4 different colors and flavors depicting 4 seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter. Spring is green (mint), Summer is orange (orange and pineapple), Autumn is red (apple) and winter is blue (lychee). The waitress will serve the drinks and wait for the sparkle to sizzle out before removing sparkle stick and leaving the table.

We had autumn (there's a piece of apple in it), winter (there's 2 lychees in it) and summer (a piece of orange in it). It's only $5 per cup!
