We were watching a movie at Lido and by the time it ended, it was already 9pm. Not wanting to venture too far, we decided to pop by Dome Cafe which is in the same building. After signalling for the waiter for about 3 times, someone decided to come and take our orders.
English Breakfast Tea

English Breakfast Tea

I ordered the English breakfast tea ($3.90 per cup) while my partner ordered the ice lemon tea ($4.00). They uses tea leaves instead of tea bag for my tea so tea leaves were floating around the cup when it arrives.
Hawaiian Grilled Pock Chop

Hawaiian Grilled Pock Chop

For the mains, my partner ordered Hawaiian Grilled Pork Chop ($15.90). It comes after about 15 mins from our orders. Quite slow for a restaurant that is not too crowded. There were probably only about 2 more tables ahead of us. There's 3 pieces of pork chop plus some olive flavored white rice hiding under the pork chop. Tried abit of the meat, it was quite hard.
Bacon Aglio Olio

Bacon Aglio Olio

I ordered Bacon Aglio Olio ($13.90). Came after 30 mins from my order. By the time my food came, my tea was already cold. The crew whom I think is the restaurant manager came to let us know that the kitchen is closing and if we have any last orders. Abit weird coz my main dish hasn't even been served. When we asked for my order, he said that they are preparing. The second time we chased for it, they still say it's being prepared. The third time we chase, they had to check my order to see what had not been served. Finally at 9.45pm, my long awaited pasta was served. Not sure why it took so long to prepare pasta!!! The best part was because they close at 10.30pm, the staff had to clean up the restaurant so while I was happily enjoying my food, the staff was busy sweeping the floor next to me. Not very hygienic, I should say. Maybe they should wait for diners to finish eating before they start sweeping. And if they could serve the food faster, I can eat earlier and then they can sweep earlier too. Just a thought. The Aglio Olio taste wonderful though. So it made up for the long waiting time and the annoying floor sweeping next to me when I ate.

Curry fish head Smile Dec 23, 2011

I live in the extreme east so to travel to the extreme west for food must only mean that it is something I am dying to eat. My partner said that this is not the best he has eaten. I felt that it's ok. The fish meat doesn't have fishy taste or smell and the best part is that it comes piping hot on a claypot. I like it that they put alot of lady's fingers and some brinjals into the gravy. Would be good if it is slightly more spicy. However, I feel that the gravy is tasty enough to be poured onto my rice and I can eat it just like that (gravy and rice). Would go back more often if not for the distance.

Smooth beancurd Smile Dec 22, 2011

I heard someone mentioned that I have to try the soya bean curd in this stall so after a dinner one day, we decided to try for it. They have many interesting flavors to the bean curd, my friend has one which ginko nuts were added to it. Me, being my all time traditional self, decided to go for the normal one with nothing for sugar syrup added. I quite like the taste. The sweetness isn't overpowering and on top of that, the bean curd is really smooth. One spoonful in my mouth and it glides all the way down the throat. Would taste even better if the syrup has a slight gingery taste. But still, it's good!

Spending per head: Approximately $0.70(Supper)

Not the most conducive environment. But one of the better Teochew porridge I have tasted. Orders to be made at the counter with a wide selection of dishes to choose from. After that, you can choose a seat (they have seats on the outside, in the shop where you choose your dishes as well as next door) and they will serve to you. Had the porridge for dinner so it was a little crowded. Good for those who like a light dinner which is not too oily. I like how watery the porridge is.

Long waiting time Cry Dec 16, 2011

Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong

I find the cup really cute. It's metal. I remembered having hot lemon tea in HK and it's in metal too. Not so much for soft drinks though. My partner had HK tea which is really sweet.

My partner ordered five spice pork cube congee. I taxed abit...nothing exceptional about it. This is the dish you can make on your own at home and perhaps you can add more pork cubes too. The congee in maxwell market will win this dish easily. Not worth the $7.80.

I ordered the same pork cube but in noodle form. It's actually instant noodles which isn't quite instant. The noodles at other Xin Wang Cafes seems to taste better than this one for some reason. Not worth the $6.80.

The service was what amazes me most. Not only did the one young server forgot to smile, it seems like the whole world has stepped on her tail. Our first encounter with her was at the entrance. She came over to dumped some menus causing the pedestal to move towards to. I actually thought she would apologize but she simply walk off. No one attended to us at the entrance. Would be good if someone can come up to us and tell us that they are clearing tables and would attend to us as soon as possible. We just stood there and watch the service crews walked around. Anyway this is what happened:

12.58pm - Waited at the entrance to be served
1.02pm - Ushered to our table and 2 menus thrown on the table and the waitress didn't even bother to cast a look at us. She just walked off. She wore white so should be the supervisor.
1.05pm - Orders taken by an aunty who keep telling us to give her the number of our item
1.17pm - drinks served
1.25pm - Congee served
1.30pm - Noodles served
2.00pm - Called for bill and providing waitress with credit card
2.02pm - Waitress came with new bill without credit card
2.05pm - Came back with bill and credit card

Will visit again if I have no other choices.
