Long waiting time Cry Dec 16, 2011

I find the cup really cute. It's metal. I remembered having hot lemon tea in HK and it's in metal too. Not so much for soft drinks though. My partner had HK tea which is really sweet.

My partner ordered five spice pork cube congee. I taxed abit...nothing exceptional about it. This is the dish you can make on your own at home and perhaps you can add more pork cubes too. The congee in maxwell market will win this dish easily. Not worth the $7.80.

I ordered the same pork cube but in noodle form. It's actually instant noodles which isn't quite instant. The noodles at other Xin Wang Cafes seems to taste better than this one for some reason. Not worth the $6.80.

The service was what amazes me most. Not only did the one young server forgot to smile, it seems like the whole world has stepped on her tail. Our first encounter with her was at the entrance. She came over to dumped some menus causing the pedestal to move towards to. I actually thought she would apologize but she simply walk off. No one attended to us at the entrance. Would be good if someone can come up to us and tell us that they are clearing tables and would attend to us as soon as possible. We just stood there and watch the service crews walked around. Anyway this is what happened:

12.58pm - Waited at the entrance to be served
1.02pm - Ushered to our table and 2 menus thrown on the table and the waitress didn't even bother to cast a look at us. She just walked off. She wore white so should be the supervisor.
1.05pm - Orders taken by an aunty who keep telling us to give her the number of our item
1.17pm - drinks served
1.25pm - Congee served
1.30pm - Noodles served
2.00pm - Called for bill and providing waitress with credit card
2.02pm - Waitress came with new bill without credit card
2.05pm - Came back with bill and credit card

Will visit again if I have no other choices.

Chicken wings in different levels Cry Sep 05, 2011

Our main purpose for visiting this place is the buffalo wings. We heard so much about it and thought it would be a good idea to try. As we are not very adventurous people, we only requested for level 2 because the service staff told us that level 3 would numb our lips. We certainly don't want our lips to be numbed. We kindda regretted the decision because level 2 doesn't show any spiciness at all. Besides being really salty, there's really nothing to rave about. Should have gone higher! $32 for 1 dozen.

Frankly, I would prefer Tony Romas to this. The BBQ sauce is not fantastic and the ribs are way too small for $32.

My jaw hurts after finishing my pork chop. It is like rubberband. Taste dry and very chewable ie. you can chew for a long time and it's still in your mouth. $19.80 for two small piece.

In conclusion, I think the food is over-rated and over-priced. The service was great though....very fast to clear plates and bill came fast too.

Spending per head: Approximately $30(Dinner)

Spaghetti Marinara Cry Aug 13, 2011

Spaghetti Marinara

Spaghetti Marinara

The sauce is too dry for me. Clams have this weird fishy taste and it seems to be frozen clams. To add on to the excitement, my spaghetti looks like you can throw it on the wall and it'll stick there. Service was super fast for this dish though. The diluted coke completed the meal.

We chose this restaurant for our Mother's Day dinner because this is one of the very few places that allows us to bring our dog along. Being away from town, we presume that it won't be too crowded....we were wrong.

The first dish was clear tomyam soup. I didn't manage to take pictures because all 8 of us were starving from waiting too long. The soup was not spicy enough for my taste. The second dish was the mixed vegetables and again I didn't take pictures because my only wish was to gobble down the food to feed my hunger.

Third dish that was served up to us was the Crispy Crabmeat omelete. I like the crispiness of the omelet. I actually thought this was the best dish in the entire incomplete dinner.

Fourth dish that was served to us was the Stuffed Boneless Chicken Wings. I didn't get to try this as there wasn't enough to go around. But it looked quite nice.

The fifth on the list was Steamed Olive rice. I cleaned up the entire bowl because I was too hungry. I must say that this is not too bad. At least I can taste abit of the olive taste.

The sixth dish was Grilled Cuttlefish. It was chewy and I liked it. The sauce was a good compliment to the blend taste of the cuttlefish.

The seventh dish was Sun Dried Pork. I thought this dish is going to be really dry but there's still a bit of juiciness beneath the dries exterior. The taste was great too. My second favorite dish of the night!

Last dish served to us was the Glass Noodle Salad. Frankly, I have no idea why the salad was served in the middle of main course. I always thought that salad should be served in the beginning of the meal.

We didn't want to wait anymore so we have decided to cancel our pineapple rice and fried tofu.

This was the sequence our orders were sent to our table:
7pm - we sat down
7.15pm - our orders were taken
8.10pm - Clear tomyam soup served
8.20pm - Mixed vegetables served
8.30pm - Crispy crabmeat omelete served
8.32pm - Stuffed boneless chicken wings served
8.35pm - Olive rice served
8.36pm - Grilled cuttlefish served
8.40pm - Clear tomyam soup served. We rejected the dish and told them it had already been served.
8.48pm - Glass noodle salad served
8.50pm - Crispy crabmeat omelete served. We rejected the dish and told them it had already been served.
8.56pm - Cancelled pineapple rice and fried beancurd and then made payment (while reminding them we only ordered 1 tomyam soup so they cannot bill us for 2)

A good suggestion to the restaurant would be to serve the salad before the main course. Also, it might be better to serve the rice first before other side dishes so that we can savour side dish together with the staples. It would be difficult to enjoy the rice when we had finish our side dish. Lastly, might be an idea to keep the food warm coz most of the food being served to us are not hot anymore. Makes me wonder how long the food was wandering around before serving up to us.

I would only go back to the restaurant if I have time to wait. However, I must commend that the Indian waiter did brighten our days a few times. We also appreciate that he kept apologising that the food came late.

We spent a total of $140+ for 5 adults and 2 kids.

Dine in is better than take away OK Jul 30, 2012

As we were having some projects at Republic Poly and didn't have time to go out for food, the organiser decided to buy back for us and we have got Boon Tong Kee takeways. I normally dine in and this is the first time I had take aways.

The utensils provided are of good quality. Included in the utensils set, you can find one serviette, one spoon, one fork and a toothpick. It's interestingly thoughtful.

There were very generous in their portion of rice except that I find the rice too hard. Instead of normal Styrofoam boxes or paper wrap, they use plastic boxes that has sections to separate the rice and the rest of the food item.

To conclude, I find them very thoughtful in their take aways. However, to have better taste of their chicken rice, it's still best to dine in.
