Fried kuay tiao Smile Dec 14, 2014
Categories : Hawker Centre | Brunch

After walking around the hawker centre, it's time to crave for one of my favorite Hakwer food which is the fried Kuay tiao. In coincidence, this stall was featured on one of the food recommendation show on channel 8. Although this plate of Kuay tiao is quite unhealthy, it is good that we eat in moderation. Taste wise was up to standard, with the use of the dark soy sauce and other seasonings to bring out the flavour of the Kuay tiao. The amount of seasoning used was just nice as the taste of the Kuay tiao was not too bland or too salty. Fresh cockles are used to further enhance the taste. Apart from cockles, it also includes other ingredients such as the sliced fish cake, bean sprout as well as the chinese sausage. Overall quite a good plate of Kuay tiao from this stall and pricing wise is also quite reasonable.

Satay Smile Dec 14, 2014

Categories : Malay | Singaporean | Hawker Centre | BBQ | Rice

Brought a plate of satay after a walk around Changi village. I ordered a total of 5 chicken and 5 mutton satays. The satay was served pipping hot as it was grilled only when ordered. The satay was very well grilled with some slight charcoal area which help to enhance the taste of the satay. Both the chicken and pork meat was well marinated and has a tender texture. As for the satay gravy, it was also served piping hot and there were small chunks of peanuts in it. The gravy was not too watery and goes very well with the satay as well as the sliced onion and cucumber. Overall, quite a tasty meal of satay from this stall and price start from 60 cents per stick for chicken, mutton, pork as well as the satay rice. A minimum of 10 sticks of satay must be ordered at one time.

Braised pork rice set meal OK Dec 14, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Chinese Desserts | Desserts and Cakes

Ever since I lasted visited their various outlet, I have noticed that their menu has not changed much for a period of duration except a minor change in their dessert which is lemongrass ice jelly with soursop. I have brought their set meal which comes with a side dish and dessert with a top up of a small sum of money. As for the main dish, I have ordered the braised pork belly with the salted vegetable. The pork belly is well braised, has a soft and tender texture. The amount of fats in the pork belly is also not too much. The sauce is well seasoned and is not too salty and goes well together with the rice. As for the rice, I think it is a little too moist for my preference. Together with the salted vegetable and the pork belly, it forms a unique taste combination. As for the side dish and dessert, it includes a piece of the steamed cake as well as the lemongrass ice jelly with soursop. The taste of the yam cake is quite normal. As for the lemongrass ice jelly with soursop, the addition of the lemongrass to the ice jelly bring a refreshing flavour but I think the amount of the lemongrass should be reduced as the taste is a little too strong for my preference. Overall, I think that they should introduce new dishes to attract more customer to patronize their stall.

Yong tau foo Smile Dec 14, 2014
Categories : Food Court

With the attracting display of all the Yong tau foo ingredients, it surely attract all those who love to choose their own ingredients for their meal. Not only is there a wide variety of ingredients to choose from, the price is also very reasonable at $3 for six ingredients. All of their ingredients are fresh and they will make the effort to deep fry some of the ingredients that is suitable to deep fry to give a crispy texture. Not all of the Yong tau foo stall will deep fry the ingredients. Lastly, the sweet sauce and the chili sauce is well made and does not have a watery texture and goes very well with all the ingredients and well as the noodle. This stall is definitely a must try for those who love to eat Yong tau foo!!

Minced meat noodle OK Dec 14, 2014
Categories : Coffeeshop | Noodles

What really make a good minced meat noodle? Well to me, the key to a good minced meat noodle is definitely the use of the well braised, juicy sliced mushroom, fresh use of the minced pork as well as the seasoning of the noodle. Last but not least not forgetting the texture of the noodle. The minced meat noodle from this stall is quite tasty but not the best that I have tasted so far. First of all, their braised mushroom seems to be a bit dry and less juicy than other noodle stall. However their minced meat is pretty well cooked. As for the seasoning part, it is a bit too watery, oily and not too spicy. The noodle was sufficiently cooked, not too dry and goes well with the minced meat as well as the mushroom. Lastly, the soup is light and refreshing and does not taste too bland. Overall, I think the taste can still be improved further and the noodle is available in $3 as well as the $4 portion.
