Duck Rice Set ;D OK Apr 30, 2013
Categories : Hawker Centre

Spotted this duck rice stall and decided to give it a try.

Although the board only stated the price for duck rice set, the uncle would ask if we want it with set or without.

Set would include tou kwa, egg. while without the set would be just the rice and duck.

Difference is $0.50 and I bought the set without much considerations.

The taste is average. The rice is not too dry and the duck is okay.

The portion is reasonable for $3.

All the items tastes okay. Just that the braised flavour is not strong enough.

Would have obtain a higher rating if the taste is thicker and stronger.
I would give it a 6/10?(:

Mixed Rice OK Apr 28, 2013

Categories : Food Court

Ordered two vegetables and one meat lol
It's stated on the board that two veg and one meat costs $2.70 but I was charged $3.50.
Same goes for my friend's where the price charged does not tally with what is stated on the board.

Taste wise would give is a rating of 6/10.

The lady's finger is quite nicely cooked and the flavour is strong and tasty ;D
It still retain slight crunchiness and is not too salty.

For the other vegetables, it's quite a big difference compared to the other two dishes.

This vegetables is really bland and plain..almost tasteless.
And the texture of it makes it hard to chew and swallow.

The meat was not bad. It is marinated to have a tinge of sweet curry flavour.

The meat is not too hard and is pretty easy to eat despite it being a whole piece.

Overall, the dishes are a little disappointing especially when the price charged is higher than as stated.

The lady's finger is a good choice ;D

There isn't much meat variety to choose from so I guess the meat I ordered is considered a good choice.(:
Definitely would not order the other vegetables again.

Siew Mai ~ ;D OK Apr 26, 2013
Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Hawker Centre | Dim Sum

We sat next to this stall and were attracted by their dim sum, especially the siew mai.
It costs $0.90 per piece which is quite expensive. We bought one of it to try.
It is quite small and really expensive for $0.90 each.

What made it worth it was that there isn’t a strong fishy taste and the meat is tender, fresh and chewy.
There is also some real prawn meat.
I would prefer a stronger taste of siew mai though, but this is suitable for those who dislike the strong smell ;D

It would have been really worth it if it costs lower or if the size of it is bigger ;P
In terms of the taste, would give it a 7/10 lol

Chendol on a sunny day ;D OK Apr 26, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Hawker Centre | Desserts and Cakes

It was quite a sunny day so we ordered chendol after our meal ;D
It took around 3-5mins before they served us.

It costs $1.50 a bowl. It isn’t a lot but it is considered to be cheaper than those sold in food courts.
The amount of ingredients is okay, with quite a lot of small cubed grass jelly but there isn’t much of the other ingredients such as the green colour jelly commonly found in chendol.

It is not too sweet which is what we liked, but it is a little too bland and watery.
The taste isn’t very strong and we would prefer a thicker taste.

Nonetheless, it is still pretty refreshing and chilling on a hot weather.
Overall would give it a 6/10.(:

Yong Tau Foo OK Apr 26, 2013
Categories : Hawker Centre

Heard that there’s a stall of yong tau foo that is famous here but it was on a really long queue.
Walked around to the other end and saw another yong tau foo stall that has a much shorter queue.
After considerations I went ahead to queue for this yong tau foo stall.
Although there’s around 6-8 customers in front of me, it took less than 5 mins before I placed my order.
Was glad I did not have to wait long to order.
The auntie asked for my order and I ordered the small one which costs $3.
She also asked if I wanted noodles, dry or soup and whether with or without chilli.
So my order is: $3 yong tau foo with noodles, dry, without chilli.
It is self-service at this stall.

Service
The service wise isn’t very satisfactory. When the auntie asked the lady queuing in front of me to place her order, she asked in a rather impolite tone and seems to be impatient when she further asked for the other details.
It’s about the same when it was my turn to order.
Nonetheless, the speed of serving was satisfactory.(:

Food

The portion looks okay ;D
Tried the soup first and it was clear and pretty refreshing.

However the noodles was a little disappointing. It is rather sticky, I’m not sure if it is done that way on purpose or was it overcooked.
There is also quite a heavy taste of the yellow noodles kind of taste.
It made me get a little sick of it to finish the whole bowl of noodles :/
An added aspect is that they added some ikan billis that are crispy and fragrant, which made the noodles slightly more appetizing.
The yong tau foo ingredients such as fishball and others are not bad lol
They are not too salty and not too fishy. The soup and ingredients are acceptable and quite nice.
I guess I will order the soup one if I had the chance next time.
