Danro Japanese Hot Pot Buffet!;D Smile Jan 07, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Steamboat/Hot Pot | Buffet | Kids-Friendly

This new Japanese hot pot by MOF newly opened not long ago!;D
So tempting! lol Had wanted to try it ever since I smell the fragrance of the soup when I pass by!

We had the student price and considering its Japanese hot pot buffet…yes buffet!;D
The price was $20.90++ for a weekend dinner. Comparing to other Japanese restaurant serving buffet, or even normal Japanese cuisine restaurants, such a pricing should be considered reasonable and good?(:

It starts at 5.30-10.30pm, but we actually got in earlier as we were looking at the soup base menu and they invited us in.

They explained that we could help ourselves to the ready fried food before we start on our hot pot.
They had 8/9 choices of soup base to choose from, and we could choose 2.
Got some recommendations and decided on Tonkotsu Miso Broth, which has a heavier taste and Wafu Broth, which has a lighter taste.

I actually got attracted by the collagen ingredient of the Tonkotsu Broth ;P
And I really like the Tonkotsu Miso Broth! It has a rich taste of having brewed the meat bones for some time, giving the soup a sweet and fragrant taste, with the touch of miso, it’s like heavenly to me ;D

The Wafu Broth was indeed lighter in taste, more of a clear soup which is refreshing! I pretty much like that too ^^
What I didn’t like about the soup base was that it’s a little too salty in the first place before adding the ingredients. I could have drank more if it was not that salty :x
But the thick and tasty soup are really nourishing and an enjoyment lol

It’s free flow of drinks, pork, chicken, beef, and other seafood such as prawns, crabs, cockles etc.
There’s of cause also the side ingredients like cabbage, tofu, egg etc!

Love how the meat is soft and tender; it’s chicken thigh! ;D it’s really nice in the soup.
They are marinated with pepper/chilli and it still goes well in any of the soup bases.
The meat can simply be separated without the need for much tearing/chewing. There are marinated pork ribs too ;D

Not forgetting their signature rice served right after setting up the hot pot! It’s served on stick, one for each pax and they would let us know how we should eat it; dip into any of the soup, leave it for a while to absorb the taste of the soup before fetching it up to eat off the stick.
Its glutinous rice made with shrimps I think? That’s what I taste :x
It is something new and pretty interesting…quite like it just that there’s quite a strong seafood taste (if you know what I mean :x)

Last up was the desserts.
Earlier on we saw some jellies/pudding, mixed cocktails and fruits. There aren’t many desserts for selection though.
When we went for our desserts, there weren’t any jellies left, and the fruit and mixed cocktails isn’t very tempting so we gave those up. Maybe they could improve by topping up some desserts?

Walked around and we’re really glad to find an ice cream machine!;D
It’s vanilla flavoured ice cream, self-service, which was quite interesting and fun for us lol
Added some toppings too; chocolate sauce and chocolate chips.
We love the ice cream!;D I think it’s a type of Japanese ice cream? And it has that special taste of sweetness but not overly sweet.
Unlike vanilla ice cream we got elsewhere, I simply like how it taste ;D probably some may thought there isn’t much of a difference, but I just felt it taste special, some kind of Hokkaido ice cream taste ;P

The cold drinks section is simply those dispenser drinks, choices like ice lemon tea, coke, sprite, Fanta etc.

Really love dining there hence the wordy review >.<! Although there isn’t really a wide variety of food/ingredients to choose from, it’s quite suitable for people who would like to try Japanese hot pot and love the richness in soups ;D and of cause for meat lovers with the free flow of meat!
I would also strongly recommend the ice cream as the finale dish ;P
Satisfactory service too lol

Buffet Town!;D Smile Apr 29, 2012
Categories : Multi-Cuisine | Seafood | Buffet

This was my first visit to buffet town and it was to celebrate my sister’s birthday. I first heard about buffet town was on a tv variety show recommending this buffet place.

The service was excellent and the area was spacious.(:
We booked and came in a total of around 25 people, and they arranged the tables for us, separated into 3 rows. The service crew willingly rendered their good service and even took the extra mile to bring over a fan to our area when she observed that the area was quite warm. Sweet service;D
The kitchen service crews behind the food bars are friendly too.

There was a really wide variety of food. The first thing I noticed when we entered was the sashimi! So that was the first thing I took. It was fresh and sweet!;D there were a variety of sashimi and sushi.
They had western food such as pizzas and fries, Chinese food like chicken rice and laksa, Japanese food, seafood and also many others.
One thing I noticed was that there were a lot of differently styled salmon dishes such as the sashimi, half cooked salmon, cooked salmon with cheese sauce, salmon in teriyaki sauce, salmon tofu, and also many many more. So I really love it there since I am a salmon lover!^^

The presentation wise of the food was good too.(:
There were cakes, jellies, ice cream, chocolate dipped mashmallows, fruits etc as desserts;D
Another thing that I liked was that the portion of the food was prepared in a small size and at just the right size so that it enables us to have the chance to try other food without getting too full with only a few;D

Would really like to recommend all their salmons, and the old cucumber soup which we super love and had lots of bowls of it!^^ the soup was refreshing and naturally sweet from the ingredients,so nice that it seems to be addictive!xD

One negative point would be that there was quite a lot of food that were too salty. Other than this, it would be an ideal choice to satisfy buffet craves. The price was around $35 for lunch on a public holiday after the GST and service charge, which I felt was definitely worth it with the wide selection available and the salmon and seafood etc;D

Prawn Aglio Olio! Smile Apr 20, 2012

Categories : Pasta | Halal

At pizza hut, it’s always student specials that I ordered;D
This time round I ordered the prawn aglio olio pasta set lunch that costs $7.90. This is the only dish on the student specials menu that has both the chef recommendation and healthier choice symbol!^^

The waiting time was around 10-15 minutes. The spaghetti wasn’t really hot when it was served, probably because there isn’t any sauce since its aglio olio.
The prawn was a super plus point for this dish as it was fresh and naturally sweet. The serving was a little less but it is just the right amount for a light dinner.(:

The service was good and they refilled the pepsi at the appropriate timings. Nice and worthy dinner!(:

Noodles!;D Smile Dec 21, 2011
Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Food Court | Chinese Soup | Roasted Meat

I wasn’t really feeling hungry that night after my movie session with my friends.
Reached the kopitiam and the first stall that caught my attention is this HK Roasted and Stew stall as they have the most number of customers queuing for it.

Glanced through the menu and bought the soy sauce chicken noodle.(:
I was able to see the preparation of the noodles and I noticed that the portion of noodles given is quite little, that the dish actually fills only about half the take away bowl.

However after finishing, I realised the small portion was actually just right, which I become pretty full. ;D
The taste was nice too. It was not too oily, and the sauce given was generous such that the noodles and chicken are well flavoured with it.(:
Moreover, the noodles did not turn soft or soggy even though I left it for quite some time before consuming. Really enjoyed my dinner;D

Assam fish!;D Smile Dec 17, 2011

Categories : Singaporean | Chinese | Hawker Centre | Halal

Was searching for sambal stingray at this food centre but failed to find any stall selling it.
However, we saw this stall selling assam fish and thought of trying since we are craving for some fish dish.(:
Assam Fish!;D

Assam Fish!;D

It was the ready type that only requires heat up, and we waited around 10mins for it.
Each costs $2.40 and was quite a small portion. But we did not regret buying it.(:
The fish was well marinated and richly flavoured with the assam and the assam sauce in it was a lot.
It was not too spicy, with a tinge of sourness. Love it;D I even dipped some other dishes into the left over assam sauce.

Even though the portion of fish for each portion is a little less, for the nice and delicious assam taste, we will most probably buy it again;D
