not so oily Smile May 10, 2012

Categories : Singaporean Chinese | Hawker Centre | Bak Kut Teh

Besides eating the laksa, we ordered the bak kut teh from a nearby stall. My hubby loves bak kut teh so we got ourselves a bowl to share. The soup was very tasty, I found it a little peppery though. The amount of salt they add to the soup is just right, not too salty, making you want to drink more. The bak kut was good, the meat was not too tough, it was rather chewy. It was a little oily, but bak kut teh itself is fattening but this stall the oil was not as much as other stalls I have eaten so I guess they are one of the healthier bak kut teh stalls.

nice gravy Smile May 10, 2012

My husband and I decided to go and try the famous sungei road laksa, our relative who was staying in the area recommended it to us. The laksa was indeed beyond our expectation. Their gravy is very creamy, much creamier than most of the other stalls I have eaten. It was very rich in flavour. the thick laksa bee hoon was very smooth and silky, it was actually tasteless so it does not contaminate the richness of the gravy. They used really fresh cockles, the cockles adds some sweetness to the gravy. For people like me who loves chilli, it is strongly recommended to add their sambal chilli. Their sambal chilli is a very thick paste, but when you stir it into the soup, it dissolves and make the soup spicier. It was really as good as how my relative describe it to be.

one piece carrot cake Smile May 10, 2012

i went to try out on of the more popular carrot cake stall in toa payoh with my husband. Indeed it was really popular, there was quite a long queue in front of us. There carrot cake was indeed unique, it was served in one piece unlike others stall where you can identify bits of the carrot cake. When they fried it this way, you can taste the crispiness of the outer coating and the softness of the carrot cake bits. It was really very fragrant and tasty. some carrot cake you eat outside is a little salty, but theirs is just right, we pretty much enjoyed it. Another thing was that it was not too oily which makes it less fattening. A nice breakfast for my husband and me.

mini doughnut Smile Apr 28, 2012

I was shopping around takashimaya with my daughter when she started complaining she was feeling hungry. We happened to pass by Sapporo petit doughnut and decide to buy a couple to try. There were a couple of flavours but we bought the kaya flavoured ones. My daughter and I love kaya and it tasted really good. They used hainanese kaya, their kaya is not too sweet and you can taste the freshness of the coconut. They were very generous with the filling too, they really added quite a lot of kaya into the doughnut. The donuts are like mini balls, very soft and chewy. It had this light fragrant taste too.

indonesian fine dining Smile Apr 27, 2012

Categories : French | Indonesian | Restaurant

I went to marina bay sands to watch wicked with my hubby. Before that we headed to The Moluccas Room for some Indonesian fine dining. My hubby decided to order the Istana Set Meal for the two of us. There were many course, one of which was the satay. There were two kinds of satay, one chicken and one beef. I was surprised to find that they have different dipping sauce. The meat was really good, the beef was very chewy and succulent. The chicken on the other hand was tender and juicy. Then there was some popiah like dish, I love the ultra thin skin. The filling inside was very juicy and tasty. It was sweetish too. For the main I chose the angus beef, it was surprising cooked in rendang sauce. The meat was cooked perfectly to how I requested it. I was so impressed! The food here is really good but it is a little pricey.
