We came to this restaurant for some Dim Sum but when we saw the Peking duck on the next table, we craved for it, so we added it on our list.
The Dim Sum we ordered was the standard kind.

In this review, I would like to talk about the Peking duck. I had eaten two different type of Peking duck, one was just the duck skin alone while the other had both skin and meat. Personally, I prefer the one with the meat, less fat. This restaurant served the skin alone. The skin was really fat, my kids and I were not used to it. To us, the one in Lao Beijing was better. Anyway, I scraped off the fats from the skin and ate it. Hmm, not bad at all.

The decoration of this restaurant is on the simple side. The view was great.

Time for a break Smile Sep 19, 2011

Categories : American | Café

This evening, my family and I went to the airport to send some relatives off. We seldom come to Terminal 1, as most of the time our flights were in Terminal 3. Terminal 1 was the oldest and smallest of the three teriminals. It is now under renovation. Many areas were boxed up, there weren't many places we could sit and talk. We ended up standing around the checking-in area saying all the farewell 'speeches'.
After an hour, they still have yet to finish saying their 'goodbyes', but my knees were already aching and my daughter was hungry. So both of us roamed around for a place to rest and eat. We saw this Dome cafe at the left end (when you are facing the entrance to the transit lounge) of the Terminal.
My daughter was delighted to see the cookie and cream cheese cake and she wanted one. ($6.50 each.) I looked at the menu deciding on what coffee to order. Quite a selecton. They have cafe vienna, caramal cappuccino, latte etc.. In the end, I ordered a normal cappuccino. ($4.60 per cup.)
We were lucky to find two couches unoccupied. We quickly took it. It was so comfortable, especially after standing for an hour. The cappuccino was rich and fragrant. I added only a packet of sugar so it was not too sweet. The cake was not too cheesy, it has a thin layer of crust at the bottom. There was a slight orangish taste too. Very pleasant combination. Unfortunately, we didn't have much time to enjoy our rest as our relatives were ready to proceed to the transit lounge.sad Wished we had come earlier to the cafe.

Yong Xin Congee Smile Aug 30, 2011

Categories : Hawker Centre | Porridge/Congee

There are two types of porridge, the Teochew and the Cantonese. Teochew porridge is more like rice with excess water. It is normal eaten with small dishes, usually preserved and salty kind like salted egg etc. Cantonese porridge or otherwise known as congee is very fine, like rice puree. The fish or chicken, sometimes century egg, are cooked together with the porridge. A good congee is one that is fine, smooth and easily swallowed, without having to chew.

I could say that the congee from Yong Xin fitted very well in the above description of a good congee.
Today, I went to West Coast Market Square and ordered two bowls of congee from Yong Xin, one fish and one chicken. I requested to add an egg to each.
When the piping hot congee was poured into a bowl with a raw egg, I quickly stirred the mixture. I like the eggyolk stirred into the congee. Usually, some 'you tiao' would be added to the congee, but for this stall they gave me a whole half of a 'you tiao'. (pls refer to picture)Hmm... perfect.smile

Must try!lol

Soya Bean and Chin Chow Smile Aug 30, 2011

Categories : Hawker Centre

Since the Hor Fun lunch that my kids had were so pathetic and not able to fill them up, so I decided to buy them some soya beancurd. Feeling thirsty, I bought myself a cup of Chin Chow and a tub of soya beancurd for my kids from this stall. The chin chow was finely shredded, easy to suck it up with the straw. It wasn't too sweet..smile The soya beancurd was smooth. The children said it was alright, not too sweet. (That was because the syrup was at the bottom of the tub and they didn't stir it up.) lol

Chicken and Wanton Noodle OK Aug 25, 2011

Categories : Hainanese | Food Court | Chicken Rice

Today, I went to the Kopitiam at IMM with my mother-in-law to have our lunch. Initially, I thought of eating the fish beehoon from the Fish Delight but changed my mind when I saw this Hainanese Chicken Rice stall. I was not interested in the Chicken rice but the Chicken noodle, and they have a special one that has both chicken and wanton. I so want to try it.
Best of Both Worlds

Best of Both Worlds

When I ate this dish, I had a surprised. It has both the fried and boiled type of wantons, two of each. The noodle was not soggy but the sauce was too much. The boiled wanton was slightly too salty. The chicken was tender even though it was breast meat. The overall portion was reasonable. Overall taste was average, I would say delicious. $4 per plate, $3.60 after discount, good value for a food court. Next time, I will try the chicken rice.
