Hei Sushi Smile Aug 18, 2011

After dinner, my family and I went shopping around within IMM. We walked passed this kiosk selling sushi. It was after 9pm and the sushi were selling at 50% off, since they had to get rid of the remaining ones. I saw that they had the Amaebi (the raw sweet prawn) sushi, my must have when I go sushi feasting. Even though the sushi might not have been freshly made, the taste of the Amaebi was still very fresh. And it was only $0.50 per piece. Super value deal!lol

West Coast Fine Chin Chow Smile Aug 17, 2011

Categories : Hawker Centre

This particular hawker centre is now named West Coast Market Square. It has quite a selection of food. It has a few Soya bean and Chin Chow dessert store. This one is my favourite. It's self-service, $1 per bowl of Chin Chow. The Chin Chow was very fine, you could almost drink it in without having to chew. It also has a significant amount of 'A tap chee'. The sweetness was just right for me. There was always a long queue whenever I was there. Should try if you have a chance to be there.

Dinner cum Karaoke Smile Jun 09, 2012

Categories : Teochew | Restaurant | Seafood

It was a mother's day celebration with my husband's family, total of 13 pax. We booked the VIP room that came with the Karaoke system. By the time my family arrived at the restaurant, my brother-in-law was already well warmed-up with the singing. I took a look at the song menu but to my disappointment, there was outdated songs available.

The dishes were also ordered by my brother-in-law. He was deligently introducing each of the dishes when they were served. The first dish was the famous Teochew braised duck. Although I prefer roast duck, I have to agree that this braised was very good. Soft, tender and tasty. What a shame that I only managed to snapped a photo of this dish, cause it was the first. The subsequence dishes were served one after another and I was unwilling to break my eating momentum to take the photos. smile

One of the dishes was the 'silverfish' omelette, it was crispy on the outside and soft inside. It was a little salty to my taste. We loved it so much that we ordered and one of it.

Another dish that was really good was the crayfish tunghoon. It's a must try if you come here.chopstick

We spent a total of $600plus. There was a 10% discount given for NTUC union card member.

Yong Chai Chicken Rice Smile Sep 26, 2011

Yong Chai

This shop is actually situated at 5 Coronation Road, beside The Curry Wok, just opposite the Xing Wang restaurant at Coronation Plaza. (That was the address I submitted to Openrice). It has already been in business for many years. The entrance of the eatery was a little narrow, with the dishes displayed on a glass cabinet on the left. There was a small air-condition sitting area at the hindside of the shop. Their signature dish is chicken rice. They have other side dishes like 'Cai Fan'.
This day, I ordered a plate of chicken rice with added bitter gourd and a cup of coffee. Total cost was $4.50. A very elderly man with shaky hand brought me my plate of chicken rice. I was so afraid that he might drop the plate. Then a very elderly woman served me my coffee. To me, the pair looked like the parents of the seller, or might even be the one to pass down the business.
I was so eager to eat my food that I had forgotten to snap a picture of it first. The rice itself was so fragrant and delicious that you could even eat it by itself. By the time I realised that I didn't take a photo, the rice was almost gone, only the chicken and bitter gourd left, as shown on my photo.tongue The gourd was well-cooked, not bitter at all.

鱼圆与鱼饺 Smile Sep 19, 2011

Categories : Hawker Centre | Noodles

Did I ever mentioned that fishball and fish dumpling are my favourite since young. Hmm, maybe I did. Just bear with me if I did.
I believed that there is at least a stall selling fishball noodles in every hawker centre and food centre. Most of them have the similar 'factory-made' taste. Like a franchised chain, same recipe. But this store was different. It stated that their fishballs were homemade. A gimmick? I don't think so. Taste it and you'll know the difference. The homemade type of fishball is softer yet bouncy (嫩又滑). Made entirely of fish meat, no flour added that's why sometimes it's a little fishy. It's slightly salty as salt is needed to bind the fish meat together. I would say that the fishballs from this stall tasted like that.
The fish dumplings might be homemade too, they were different from those selling at the supermarkets. They were bigger.
I ordered a bowl of fishballs and fish dumplings soup, $3 for 5 fishballs and 4 dumplings. I added some chilli padis into the soup to give it a spicy taste. Really nice. smile
