Lovely place for family Smile Jan 30, 2012

Categories : Spanish | Steaks and Grills

The moment I entered the restaurant, I loved it. It was converted from one of those old bungalow. The surrounding was quiet. Even though we sat at the Alfesco area, I didn't feel the heat of the noon day. There was a fun-filled indoor playhouse for little children. An hourly rate applies. It's really a good place for family with young children.

The menu was simple, not much variety. I ordered a plate of Prawn Aglio Olio and a glass of cafe latte.

This Aglio Olio was delicious, slightly oily, but that's quite normal for this dish.

The latte was smooth and the aroma strong.
My friend had a discount coupon and so I paid only $16 for this meal. Definitely worth it. smile

Herbal Chicken Smile Jan 11, 2012

This is the first time I came to this Kopitiam. It was on the highest floor, open space area, like the food court at Somerset 313. The ambience was very good. It was slightly before lunch time and the crowd was not in yet. I had a tough time deciding what to eat.

I noticed that though this stall sells roasted delights, it has Herbal Chicken. It has been a while since I last ate one. I decided to have this.

I requested for red cut chilli padis and added a sufficient amount into the chicken.

The herbal taste was not too strong but the chicken was very tender. Not too salty, suited me well. With the chilli padis, it was very good. Only $5.40 with the Kopitiam card. Came with rice at no extra charge.

Students's hangout Smile Nov 16, 2011

I believe this particular shop has been here for a long time. But there was a changed in its ownership this year. Personally, I felt that the standard of the food has dropped since the change over, but nonetheless, it was still packed with students during lunch time. The students, including my daughter, always ordered the lemon chicken rice.

The dish was served without the sauce. It's up to you to add your preferred amount. My daughter preferred to have it plain.
The special thing about this shop was that apart from the standard menu, there was a daily menu, one that change everyday. There was a chart on the wall indicating the dishes for the day. Today, there was this cereal chicken, a new dish that I have never seen being sold here before.

When the lady boss served me the dish, the vegetable was something I wouldn't eat. I just made a comment saying that I didn't like it and immediately she said she would change a different type of vegetable for me. I was very impressed by their good service. That's why I kept going back even though the price of the food had increased and the portion decreased as compared to the previous owner.

Diao Xiao Mian Smile Oct 14, 2011
Categories : Food Court | Noodles

Homemade noodle! Must be original and healthy. The seller kept promoting that their noodles were natural without MSG. I guess it's worth a try. As usual, I looked for non-pork dish. Then I saw their specialty, 'Diao Xiao Mian'. I was wondering what was that. Then I saw this chef taking a lump of dough and started slicing small strips into a pot of boiling water. That's why it's called 'Diao Xiao Mian', noodle sliced by knife. I thought of ordering it but my daughter wanted the handmade 'You Mian' instead. So I ordered the 'You Mian' cooked the same way as the 'Diao Xiao Mian'.

The soup was salty because of the mushrooms used to cook it. It tasted naturally, without MSG. There were 3 chicken drumplets, very salty. Overall was good.smile

I didn't manage to catch the chef in action.

Orange Peel Smile Oct 07, 2011

Umeya IMM

Umeya IMM

This little snack shop has branches in most of the shopping centre. This one at IMM is just in front of Giant Supermarket. It sells all kind of sour plum, sweets, cuttlefish etc. Today, I came here to buy some orange peel/skin. ($2/100g)

Orange skin

This type of orange skin is sour and a little salty. It is very good for motion sickness. I will always take a pack with me whenever I need to travel via plane/boat. It is also very good to help keep me awake. There is another use for this orange peel that I got to know recently, i.e., to 'marinate' guava. Yes, it's very nice. Just cut the orange peel into tiny pieces and add them to cut guava. Mixed well and leave the mixture in the fridge for a day. The taste is really very good, better than adding the sour plum powder. Try it.smile
