Haagen Dazs Smile Feb 29, 2012

Categories : American | Ice Cream and Gelato

This ice cream experience was awesome, as I not only had ice cream, but also had waffle along with two scoops of ice cream. The ice cream flavours I chose was, chocolate and summer berries, which was very creamy, and did not have icy chunks in them like cheap ice creams you get out there. Both flavours were great, and summer berries is one of my favourite flavours. As for the waffle, it crispy and warm with the drizzled hot chocolate sauce, and had a crunch as I bit into them smile I'm definitely going back for more of this great ice cream that Haagen Dazs offers!

I'm an avid fan of all things ice cream, so when I passed by this store by the SIngapore flyer, I was very attracted to its colourful and vintage furnishings, and decided to try their gelato. I had their Chocolate Truffle, in a cone, and I ordered a small. Honestly, the small is good enough, as the scoop is very generous and big. The chocolate was very rich, and super chocolatey-good, so if you're in need of a chocolate fix, this gelato flavour is sure to hit the spot. There were some chocolate truffles in the gelato as well, so along the way, you'll get some extra punch of chocolate. I love this flavour a lot, and I am definitely going back for more!

Ramen and all things Japanese Smile Feb 29, 2012

I visited this place for the first time today with my family, and we ordered quite a load of food. There was Paitan Tonkotsu Spicy Ramen, Fried Rice, Ichiban Don, Unagi Don, Tori Karaage, Softshell crab, and Ocha. The ramen was good, had a nice springy texture, and I absolutely loved the way they cooked the egg, the yolk was really soft, and contained impeccable flavour, and for the spiciness, it was okay, as I asked for the spicy sauce to be separated, then I added it into the soup to my own liking. The Ichiban Don was raw salmon with thinly sliced onions and some seasoning on top and rice, and I think the raw salmon was very fresh, and I would recommend this to salmon lovers. The tori karaage was good, crispy, and not too oily, which is a good factor. The softshell crab was pretty good too, very crunchy! lol The unagi had an extremely good texture that makes you just want to have more of it, soft yet firm, the kind of unagi that is cooked really well. The ocha was hot green tea, and was refillable too, not bad. I will come back here again in the near future.

Sukiyaki sets Smile Feb 29, 2012

Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

Went here for my BFF's birthday dinner, and since we had such a big group, we ordered 2 sukiyaki sets, which consisted of many dishes, which had char-grilled meats on sticks, fried potato sticks, tori karaage, and of course, the big pot of sukiyaki, which had beef in it, golden mushroom, veggies, tofu. I liked the potato sticks, it was very yummy, and they even had their homemade sauce to go with it. The tori karaage was crispy, and not chunky, which was not bad. The highlight was the sukiyaki, as everyone liked the beef, and the soup base. I also had a fizzy grape soda, which used grapes from Japan, and I liked it very very much, as it had a sweet grape taste that was strong, and did not taste like those cheap soda drinks you order elsewhere. smile Great place to have gatherings with friends.

Lou Hei at IKEA?  Smile Feb 29, 2012
Categories : Western Variety | Kids-Friendly

I went to IKEA during the 15 days of Chinese New Year, and I was surprised to see that a Swedish restaurant had taken an interesting step by offering lou hei sets to customers who patronised their food store. It was around $10 I think, for one box, and me and my family lou hei-ed before eating the other IKEA food. They were quite generous with the raw salmon, and the portion for the rest of the condiments were reasonable as well, enough for a family. Genius idea. Anyway, my family ordered a plate of malay rice, which consisted of spicy chicken and vegetables, while i had swedish meatballs and potatoes, and there was meatball pasta too. I think the malay rice is quite appetising, and the chicken used is fresh and cook thoroughly tender. The gravy is quite spicy though, so the vegetables help to lighten the spiciness. As for the meatballs and potatoes, that is my absolute favourite dish, as there's ligonberry jam that comes with it, the potatoes are great, not mushy, and the meatballs are tender and juicy, amazing sauce. The pasta was good too, just that I think the penne could have been cooked more al dente, was a little bit hard. smile overall, great dining experience.
