Huge Disappointment  Cry Aug 29, 2011

We went there because heard from a FM radio DJ saying they serve one of the best Paper Wrap Chicken in Singapore...

Well, perhaps that visit was the first and last time we would go. Why?

From their menu, everything seemed fine, with some drooling name of their paper wrap chicken, sotong and prawn. We were in a group of 8 people, and chose a set dinner for 8 people that come with 8 dishes. Sound good. yup, until we saw what was served.

(1) The fried rice- cold and tasteless - I can fry better than them. Imagine we were group of 8 and the rice serving was like only for 2 ppl? And they don't have white rice. End up we need order another fried mee which turned up looked like maggie mee plus bit of oil =="

(2) The prawn, vege and toufu- prawn was really normal, toufu was like normal fried toufu.

(3) The so-called dessert- was just a plate of orange (simply cut).

(4) Well, their so called famous paper wrap chicken - is really normal.

And their portion were really really little, the 8-ppl course end up only enough to feed at most 4 people. Imagine that day we have 6 big guys...

What makes this dining experience even worse was it was after raining, the dining place was like 'atap house'.. the traditional wooden house and open air. There were lot of flying bugs flying around and eventually in middle of eating, the bugs flew in our dishes. At the end, we ended up have plates of bugs instead of the proper food. What's more, it was really expensive, the course like this, seriously only enough for 4 ppl eating costed us near to $120. Eventually, they refunded us $20 as we complaint the food was fulled with bugs.

Well, to me, I will never visit this restaurant again. I don't know what makes it so special when their service, food and price were totally sub standard.

Dou Jiang You Tiao OK Sep 26, 2011

Categories : Coffeeshop

JJ, a chinese pop song singer has a song called 'dou jiang you tiao'. These 2 are always inseparable. Yong He Eating House in Geylang, which opens 24 hrs has so called one of the renowned shop selling the tau hway and youtiao.

The soya bean drink is quite normal though.

Beancurd tastes normal too. I guess the problem lies with the bean we used, tasted a beancurd in Vietnam on the town street and it is the best ever beancurd I have tasted before, very smooth and melts once it enters your month. This Yong He's beancurd can never compete with it.

The you tiao is quite ok. Eat it while it is hot, and try dip in the soya bean, it goes well too. ;)

♥ Couple Fondue ♥ OK Aug 23, 2011

Categories : American | Ice Cream and Gelato

It comes with slices of fruits (normally would be strawberry, honeydew etc), waffle, cookies, mashmallow and the main lead, the Anderson's Ice Cream.

For the choices of ice cream, we can choose 5 from the 10 main flavours. We tried the Belgian Chocolate Chip, Rum & Raisins, Mocha Almond, Fudge, Fruit of Forest and Vanilla. Would recommend the Belgian Choco Chip and Mocha Almond if you want something special. Choose only rum & raisin if you like some alcoholic taste in ice cream. Fruit of Forest doesn't really impress us. In fact, the berries were bit too sour which spoil the ice cream taste.

The portion is quite ok for 2 person, priced at $21.90 , bit pricey in my opinion. If you have citibank card, 10% discount smile. Well, if you come in a group, they actually have a bigger size (consist all the same items ) just size and amount doubled, priced at $36.90.

Spending per head: Approximately $20(Supper)

Groupon sensation  OK Aug 20, 2011

Categories : Bakery

Got the $10 for $20 worth of Bakerzin voucher from groupon and here we go to try on the food there.

Have actually tried the cakes in Bakerzin before but this time round we decided to give a try on their meal box.

This is what we ordered:

Fish fillet

Japanese Curry Chicken

Each meal box includes a drink, a soup, cake of the day and the main dish, around $24 each set after service charge & GST. It is quite a big portion, but overall the quality is just average in my own opinion for the price range. If not for the Groupon voucher, probably it will be a bit overpriced to me.

I would prefer to try on their cakes and pastries for Bakerzin. smile

Spending per head: Approximately $25(Dinner)

Where is the butter? OK Aug 15, 2011

Categories : Singaporean | Café | Kids-Friendly

Went to Old Town White Coffee for breakfast last weekend.

We ordered this kaya & butter toast. Well, by looking at the menu picture it shown. The slice of butter looked so thick and fulfilling.

But when we got our toast, we were quite disappointed with the portion of butter. It was hardly seen and looked so different from the menu. Although the taste of butter is still there, but judging on the cost of the toast which is more expensive from other competitors price.

We wrote a feedback form regarding this. Hopefully Old Town will do something about it. Anyway, the eating experience in Old Town was still a good one despite this small little hiccup.
