Indian Vegetarian  Smile Sep 12, 2011

Categories : Indian | Vegetarian

My Indian friend recommended me this nice vegetarian restaurant. I was still quite doubted when I looked at the menu because all the dishes seemed not to be vegetarian. And I saw the table next door were having chicken rice.

Until my friend told me the fake meat is made up of flour and mushroom. A bit like chinese vegetarian food but this is the first time i tried the Indian style.

Well, we ordered a few of the dishes.

Chicken Rice. The rice is the pandan rice, not the normal one. With the pandan fragrance, it makes it tastes special. And the fake meat of course.

I would recommend this satay. The sauce is nice and you don't have to worry about the fats meat since it is all using vegetarian ingredients.

Nasi lemak. Nice try.

Pineapple rice. This would be quite normal. Perhaps not that special compared to others.

Well, the price although is bit pricey but I would say their vegetarian dishes do stand out. smile

Spending per head: Approximately $15(Lunch)

Ramen Craving  Smile Aug 28, 2011
Categories : Japanese | Ramen

They are famous for their chicken soup base ramen. Indeed, it is really the authentic and thick chicken soup. I had drank the same type of soup base in Vietnam where they only used chicken bones and meat to make the broth, the real chicken soup. But not as thick as Marutama's one. In fact, I prefer the one I have tasted in Vietnam which is less thick. But still, this is one Ramen which you can't miss.

Not like normal Japanese ramen restaurants like Ajisen Ramen etc, their choices are quite limited. But it appears as a good thing to me, no need to scratch your head to think what to eat.

Their ramen ordering goes like this: You order a basic ramen with only the ramen, soup base and spring onion and seaweed, starting from $12. And then you can add on type of toppings you want, eg: char sew, egg, seaweed etc. Some recommendation for the toppings, choose this special half boiled egg, which you have this hard boiled white egg but half boiled york, sound amazing right? Just wonder how they make sure every egg is like that. And their seaweed is really nice and chewy.

For their side dishes, I would recommend their grilled roasted pork (char siu). The tender in and just nice grilled roasted pork. I would say this is the best I have tried so far. Some other good side dishes like omelet and dumpling worth a try too.

Overall, it is one good choice if you crave for ramen. Although they always have a long queue outside and quite a small restaurant but their service is fast. Turnover rate should be quite fast too.

Special Nasi Lemak Smile Aug 23, 2011
Categories : Halal

If there is one dish to recommend from Old Town, perhaps I will choose this Nasi Lemak Special bowl

Well, how special it is?

I guess the credit should go to the special sambal. The sambal, unlike some hawker centre nasi lemak, is authentic, rich and thick, fried together with ikan bilis and onion. The rice is nicely done as well which is rich in coconut fragrance.

Most of the time I would only visit Old Town in Malaysia which appears to be cheaper. The same Nasi Lemak is ard RM 9 (~ $ 4) but in Old Town Singapore, it sold at $6.80. But now, they have some promotion on when you bought a pack of any Old Town Instant White Coffee, there is coupon inside for you to get a free Nasi Lemak with any purchase. Quite worthwhile I guess since I like their coffee too. It does taste better than Nescafe but of course at a higher price sold.

Spending per head: Approximately $10(Breakfast)

The Big Bowl Ramen! Smile Aug 15, 2011
Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Sushi/Sashimi

I'm especially easily attracted by anything looking big and amazing. And this Waraku Ramen successfully lured me in the restaurant.

The taste of ramen is up to standard, and the big bowl makes your dining trip even happier. I guess when it comes to food, anything BIG is nice! lol..

The BIG BOWL ramen

Alright, their sashimi sushi is average.

Another dish that can try out is their cheesy potato hotpot. Yummy chopstick

The outlet at Marina Square is a bit difficult to locate. It is actually outside of Marina Square. So just check out their location map if you are not sure where is it.

Nice Thai Food Smile Sep 07, 2011
Categories : Thai

This small Thai restaurant, at a quite deserted building yet busy district Bugis, often attracts alot of Thai food lovers. You couldn't agree more once you tried their food. What's more the price is quite reasonable. We ordered a Tom yam Seafood pot , enough for 2 person eating is ard $6.90, if to compared with Bali Thai or Thai Express, personally I feel this is tastier and value worth.

Ordered the Tom Yam Seafood. The soup base is nice, not really spicy yet you can taste the thick Tom Yam flavour in.

The next recommended dish is this Pandan Chicken, ard $9.90. They use the pandan leave to wrap the marinated chicken. A bit similiar to Chinese Paper Wrap Chicken style but this one they grill it instead. The chicken is grilled evenly and with the pandan leave fragrance. This worth a try.

Next is their kangkong. Stir fried. Not really spicy yet you taste freshness of the vege. Good!

The only dish that we are not really satisfied is their dessert: red ruby. perhaps the coconut milk is too thick and the red ruby is not that chewy.

Anyway, the food is good. If you want to try some authentic Thai food, this is the place you should go!
