Ramen Craving  Smile Aug 28, 2011
Categories : Japanese | Ramen

They are famous for their chicken soup base ramen. Indeed, it is really the authentic and thick chicken soup. I had drank the same type of soup base in Vietnam where they only used chicken bones and meat to make the broth, the real chicken soup. But not as thick as Marutama's one. In fact, I prefer the one I have tasted in Vietnam which is less thick. But still, this is one Ramen which you can't miss.

Not like normal Japanese ramen restaurants like Ajisen Ramen etc, their choices are quite limited. But it appears as a good thing to me, no need to scratch your head to think what to eat.

Their ramen ordering goes like this: You order a basic ramen with only the ramen, soup base and spring onion and seaweed, starting from $12. And then you can add on type of toppings you want, eg: char sew, egg, seaweed etc. Some recommendation for the toppings, choose this special half boiled egg, which you have this hard boiled white egg but half boiled york, sound amazing right? Just wonder how they make sure every egg is like that. And their seaweed is really nice and chewy.

For their side dishes, I would recommend their grilled roasted pork (char siu). The tender in and just nice grilled roasted pork. I would say this is the best I have tried so far. Some other good side dishes like omelet and dumpling worth a try too.

Overall, it is one good choice if you crave for ramen. Although they always have a long queue outside and quite a small restaurant but their service is fast. Turnover rate should be quite fast too.

Special Nasi Lemak Smile Aug 23, 2011
Categories : Halal

If there is one dish to recommend from Old Town, perhaps I will choose this Nasi Lemak Special bowl

Well, how special it is?

I guess the credit should go to the special sambal. The sambal, unlike some hawker centre nasi lemak, is authentic, rich and thick, fried together with ikan bilis and onion. The rice is nicely done as well which is rich in coconut fragrance.

Most of the time I would only visit Old Town in Malaysia which appears to be cheaper. The same Nasi Lemak is ard RM 9 (~ $ 4) but in Old Town Singapore, it sold at $6.80. But now, they have some promotion on when you bought a pack of any Old Town Instant White Coffee, there is coupon inside for you to get a free Nasi Lemak with any purchase. Quite worthwhile I guess since I like their coffee too. It does taste better than Nescafe but of course at a higher price sold.

Spending per head: Approximately $10(Breakfast)

♥ Couple Fondue ♥ OK Aug 23, 2011

It comes with slices of fruits (normally would be strawberry, honeydew etc), waffle, cookies, mashmallow and the main lead, the Anderson's Ice Cream.

For the choices of ice cream, we can choose 5 from the 10 main flavours. We tried the Belgian Chocolate Chip, Rum & Raisins, Mocha Almond, Fudge, Fruit of Forest and Vanilla. Would recommend the Belgian Choco Chip and Mocha Almond if you want something special. Choose only rum & raisin if you like some alcoholic taste in ice cream. Fruit of Forest doesn't really impress us. In fact, the berries were bit too sour which spoil the ice cream taste.

The portion is quite ok for 2 person, priced at $21.90 , bit pricey in my opinion. If you have citibank card, 10% discount smile. Well, if you come in a group, they actually have a bigger size (consist all the same items ) just size and amount doubled, priced at $36.90.

Spending per head: Approximately $20(Supper)

Frolick  Smile Aug 21, 2011

I still prefer their original yogurt. It melts inside and the taste is refreshing. The yogurt is not too sour too.

The best part is you get to choose your toppings and the topping choices also go well with the yogurt.

This is one frozen yogurt eatery that you would not want to miss. And no worries it will make you fat because according to Frolick, the yogurt is low fat !! =))...

Eat As You Wish, Pay As You Feel  Smile Aug 21, 2011

This Chinatown Point branch has shifted to Central Square.

Annalakshmi is an Indian vegetarian restaurant. As the title goes, this place is really eat as you wish and pay as you feel.

It is kinda a buffet restaurant comes with all kind of authentic traditional indian food such as dosai, chapati and different kind of spices to go with.

The restaurant has a nice Indian ambience too decorated with many Indian culture and sculpture.

What makes this restaurant a really special one? It has no fixed price for the food on the menu, you pay what you feel it deserved. So, for small eater like me, it does serve a great purpose as you only take the portion you could take in and pay for the price you think it deserves to have.
