The restaurant was part of a chain originated from Japan, with outlets in Taiwan, China, Hong Kong and Philippines.

Fisherman King (S$16.90++)
which was this month's limited king and limited to 400 bowls.
Featuring sardine oil infused with Nagi's award-winning tonkotsu pork-broth, topped with succulent chashu slices, bonito powder and a fragrant ball of minced pork.

Selected normal for soup base and special sauce. The soup was rich and flavourful without too salty.
Selected kakuni (pork belly) which came in 2 thick slices. Tender but still not quite melt in the mouth. Another choice would be chashu (pork shoulder).
The ball of minced meat was kind of too salty.
Selected chopped spring onions for vegetables. Another choice would be cabbage.
Selected spicy level 1. Not quite taken with the spicy sauce.
Topup S$2++ for Tamago but the staff forgot and did not serve it in the ramen. Therefore had to explain to cashier that I did not have the egg when he wanted bill me for it.

Gyoza (S$7.90++)
Meat and vegetables seasoned with Japanese spices, wrapped in nagi's special dough and finished with a crispy lattice skirt.
It looked quite pretty with the thin crispy crust, but there's barely any filling in each dumpling. Served with a soyu vinegar dip.

There's no free flow of iced water here. The cheapest drink on the menu was Mujicha (S$1++) which was bottomless but I never saw the staff going around refilling.

Although Suntec City had free wifi, but one could not receive the mall's wifi in the restaurant.
Condiments such as marinated bean sprouts, marinated mustards, grounded sesame seeds, chilli powder, oil and tissue were available on the table.
Bag box was available under the stool.

The restaurant was located at the far end of the basement of the shopping mall. It looked like another rotating sushi restaurant at first sight until one saw the price range of the plates on the belt : from S$1.80++ to S$15.40++. Quite eye popping! Although it was a weekday lunch, the place was packed easily. There was reasonable price lunch set menu, but most were having ala carte. Hot green tea was chargeable at S$1.80++ and was refillable.

Kaisen Don Set (S$33++)
Served with soup & salad
I was kind of surprised to see sea urchin in the dish, as I remembered that the staff who took my order, told me that sea urchin was not available and would be replaced by otoro (fatty tuna). The raw seafood was quite fresh.

Mentaiko Scallop Sushi (S$6.80++)
It was taken off the rotating conveyor belt. As it was black plate, it was priced S$6.80++ a plate. The rich creamy sauce on the silky juicy scallop was a match.

Kaki Fried
(S$8.60++)
The deep fried oyster was served with mayonnaise by the side. Encased with a thin crispy crust, it was juicy inside, with juicy dipping when bite.

Kueh Kueh Smile Jan 30, 2018

The stall was located in the coffeeshop, and offered a variety of kuehs.

The Ang Ku Kueh (S$1/ pc) were in a variety of flavours : Red Bean (orange), Green Tea (pale green), Salted Bean (grey), Durian (dark yellow), Peanut (red), Yam (purple), Mango (pale yellow), Black Sesame, Coconut (green), Green Bean (red). I personally like the yam version as it reminded one of the traditional yam paste dessert. The skin was chewy and did not turn hard even after left on the table for a whole day.

Abacus (S$8.50)
A traditional Hakka dish, with balls made of yam, stirred fried with mushrooms, garlic and shallots. The version here was great as one really can taste the yam in it.

Not forgetting its Soon Kueh (S$1), Ku Cai Kueh (S$1), Bamboo Shoot Kueh (S$1.30) which came in slightly translucent coloured and chewy skin. The bamboo shoot version was quite a rare find and came stuffed with strips of bamboo shoots in it.

The cafe was located at the ground floor of a office block, just a stone throw away from my work place but no direct public transport to the place. The dine in area was made up of mis-match tables and chairs. Interesting industrial decoration. For a weekday lunch time, the place was pretty empty. Help yourself to the iced water by the counter.

Nasi Lemak with 5 Spice Pork Confit (S$9.90)
Chef Shen Tan's Signature twice steamed Nasi Lemak (featuring 10 ingredients) served with ikan billis, omelette, housemade sambal and coffee sambal on cool cucumber slices, signature pork confit, marinated with coffee grounds and 5 spice powder.
The meat looked rather fatty and charred black, but the taste and texture was just nice. Best to go with the coffee sambal. The housemade sambal was a bit too spicy for me. The ikan billis was quite crispy and crunchy. The rice was pipping hot and fluffy.

Shendol Delights : Coconut Pannacotta with Gula Melaka Syrup topped with homemade Red Bean Ice Cream (S$10)
Chef Shen's version of local dessert Chendol is a creamy smooth coconut panna cotta served with Gula Melaka Syrup, Chendol and housemade Red Bean Ice Cream
The panna cotta was rich and creamy but it was lacking of the coconut taste. The chendol seemed to be factory made as it stain the brownish syrup to a greenish colour easily. The ice cream was just plain flavoured one without any red bean in it, and with a too icy texture.

Flat white ($5.50)
Served with latte art. Rich in flavour.

Lunch Set OK Jan 16, 2018

Categories : Japanese

The place was located just above the MRT station. For a Sunday afternoon, the place was pretty empty except for a couple of customers. Looking at the limited menu, there was lunch set menu even for Sunday which was quite rare these days.

Ebi Ten Donburi 海老天丼
(S$16++)
shrimp tempura on rice, appetizer, pickle, soup, dessert
The appetizer was cold potato salad which smelt hints of truffle oil. It tasted not bad.
The soup was pipping hot miso soup with wakame and wild mushrooms in it.
For the main, there was 4 tempura prawns and a tempura mushroom over the pipping hot rice, with sauce all over. Due to the sauce, there was lack of crispiness in the tempura, although the prawns tasted quite fresh.
Dessert was a scoop of vanilla ice cream which was quite icy.
The meal was accompanied with hot ocha which was refillable.
Not bad but also not outstanding.
