The place was having Korean-Mexican-Filipino Thanksgiving party with Iskina Cebu. The place was packed but lucky I had made a reservation in advance. We were showed to a high chair table by side. The place was quite noisy with tables spread to the walkway as outside was raining. Chimichurri Lechon Tacos (S$15++/ 2 pieces) Handmade tortilla, ssamjang aioli, Iskinu Cebu lechon, chimichurri salsa. The serving was quite small. It was quite messy to handle the tacos. The flavours were yummy. Jalapeño Pork Belly Lechon Tacos (S$15++/ 2 pieces) Handmade tortilla, ssamjang aioli, Iskinu Cebu pork belly lechon, pickled onions, jalapeños relish. The serving was quite small. It was quite messy to handle the tacos. The flavours were yummy. I'm Rick James, Peach! (S$30++) Frozen Peach margarita + Tecate BeerThe margarita was served in a glass with the beer bottle upside down. It was not too sweet. Oh man I was red like a peach after having the drink. Didn't get to try the roasted chicken which was also that night special item as it was sold out by the time we placed order. Montigo Resorts is a well known atas resort located in Batam which quite a number of Singaporeans frequent. Recently it had opened an alfresco dining cafe in the shopping mall, offering its well known signature dishes. In the hot humid Singapore, one can't help wishing that the additional of fans or air coolers would help alot in cooling down the customers. There was no GST or service charge. Pay for your order at the counter, and food would be brought to your table. nongsa breakfast This dish was originated from the TADD'S of the resort. It was not the usual soto mee which one would find easily in Singapore. Instead the version here looked more instant noodle version. The soup base was light and flavourful, but there was no coconut milk taste in it. There was none of the green sambal which one was expecting. The scrambled egg was served cold. Although there was sambal, the spicy taste was lacking here. Elderflower Lychee (S$7) The soda drink was light and refreshing. Located some distance from the main street, the place was a far cry from the busy road. Here one could bring in pets into the cafe. One did not have to worry about own pets doing personal business around the place. The staffs were efficient to handle it easily. The menu covered quite a wide range from bento sets to western main courses to bingsu, as well as, items for doggies. Duck Leg Confit Aglio Olio (S$18) Spaghetti, Whole leg confit in its own fats topped, tossed with mushroom ragout and garlicky chilli oil The pasta was garlicky with a slight spicy taste. A bit too oily at bottom. The duck leg looked quite dry but the meat was quite tender and not too salty. Unagi Bento (S$23.90) Japanese style unagi, basted and grilled with in-house yakiniku sauce and served with rice, tempura prawn & miso soupI was surprised that the plain looking rice tasted like the chicken rice version of rice. It was garlicky and oily with hints of ginger. The eel was tender and flavourful. The tempura prawn was more like ebi fry as it was covered with crumbs instead of batter. It was light and crispy. Cornflake Chicken Cutlet (S$20) All time favourite! XXL juicy chicken thigh, coated with cornflake crumbs, honey mustard Served with coleslaw and wedges The serving was huge. Crunchy crispy crusted, inside the meat was thick and juicy. Black Sesame Bingsu ($14) Finely shaved ice, topped with black sesame powder, colorful mini mochi balls, and a scoop of black sesame ice cream. Unlike the commonly available versions in Singapore, the version served here was not overly sweet, with the tiny mochi balls providing a chewy texture. If you are bringing your dogs over, don't forget to order items such as Furkid's Minced Pupcake ($6.50/ chicken) Contains carrot, oats, potato, eggFurkid's Minced Pupcake ($7.50/ lamb) Contains carrot, oats, potato, egg for them. The place looked like a deli from outside with its rows of cheese on the counter. Walked inside one could not help but wow at the collection of wines and other drinks over the bar counter. For Wednesday night, there was also live band available. Order was taken through ipad. Looking through the menu, it had quite a number of 1-for-1 item during supper hours. Power Plank ($48++, usual price $55++) Oriental Ribs, Sirloin Steak, Mini Wagyu Patty, Chicken Steak, Chicken Skewers, Wasabi Mayonnaise FriesThe mini patties were so cute looking which I mistook them as meatballs. This platter was a must order for meat lovers which we demolished it in no time. Blue Cheese Burger ($20++) Wagyu Patty (Doneness : Medium), Blue Cheese Sauce, Bacon, Caramelised Onion, Roma Tomato, Cajun FriesThe sweetness of the caramelised onion went quite well with the moist juicy patty, but the blue cheese sauce was a bit too overwhelming. Chicken Mac & Cheese ($24++) Succulent chicken served over spatzle & cheeseInstead of the usual macaroni, spatzle which was a kind of soft egg noodle found in the cuisines of southern Germany, was used here. Not sure why, the dish was more on the sweet side, instead of usual savoury flavour which one expected from Mac & Cheese. Mushroom Risotto ($22++) Roasted Mushroom, Puree of Roasted Mushroom, Parmesan Cheese, Carnaroli RiceThe simple looking dish was well cooked with earthy flavours of the mushrooms in the mouth. The restaurant would be having a 3-course set meal($38++) for the month of December, which consisted of a choice of Appetizer, a choice of Main Course and a choice of Dessert. For Appetizer, there would be Butternut Squash Soup, Smoked Salmon Gravlax, The slices of smoked salmon was decorated like a rosette which made it too pretty to be eaten. Lightly and refreshing. Foie Gras SaladIt was a good balance between the buttery pan fried foie gras, the sweetness of the fruit and crispiness of the vegetables. For Main Course, Prime Rib with Roasted Pumpkin & Chestnut, The brownish pile of braised chestnut offered a surprising sweet and nutty flavour which interesting to go with the tender juicy meat. Chicken Roulade & Silky MashAlthough looking much plainer comparing to the other main course, the dish held itself quite well. For Dessert, Toffee Pudding, The pudding reminded one of sticky date pudding, which was moist and served with toffee and cream sauce. Personally one would prefer it to be served hot with a scoop of ice cold vanilla ice cream by the side. Christmas CakeThe cake looked like a slice of log cake, served with slices of strawberries. It tasted like coffee sponge with oreo filling. Another upcoming dish in December would be the Seafood Platter, which consisted of half lobster topped with crispy parmesan crusted minced garlic , seafood couscous and pollock fish. For seafood lovers, the couscous would be the favourite as it filled with lots of juicy seafood such as prawns, mussels, clams, and calamari rings. The pollock was interestingly served on top of soften slices of potato. Date of Visit: Nov 22, 2017 Other Ratings:Taste 4 | Environment 4 | Service 4 | Clean 4 | Price 4Recommend 0 |
It was located under an apartment block. From outside, one would think this place as another drinking place in the neighbourhood with dark tinted glass. Inside besides the bar, there was wifi available, dart machines, pool table and telecasted soccer match on the screen. But the bigger surprise turned out to be the menu, which had quite a wide variety of dishes from western to chinese zi char dishes. For every order of main course during lunch, one will get a choice of soup and a choice of drink (soft drink/ coffee/ tea) with a $5 topup. For CarlsBerg Beer, it was having a promotion currently at $60.00/ tower, and $25.00/ jug. Crispy Prawn Twister 腐皮炸大虾 ($12.80) Served with celery and carrot sticks with tartar sauceThis was one of our table's hot favourite with chunky prawns encased inside the thin crispy filo pastry crust. Fish & Fries 炸鱼薯条 ($15.80) Golden fried fish fillet served with classic tartar sauce, coleslaw and crispy friesThis was one of the most popular dishes in the bistro. Nice golden brown crust, but the fish inside was a bit too mushy for me. Maybe we had taken a bit too long before starting on this dish. Aglio Olio with 3 types of mushroom 三菇意大利面 ($16.80) Garlic aplenty cooked in white wine and extra virgin olive oil together with fresh button mushrooms, shimeji mushrooms and shiitake mushroomsIt was cooked with chilli padi which I felt had overwhelmed the dish. The white wine taste was distinct but not for the garlic. Personally I would prefer a garlicky and buttery version. Lamb Rack 羊肉架 ($23.80) 3 bone premium lamb rack cooked together with garlic and lemongrass presented with green salad and stirred-fried potato; complemented with red wine brown sauceThe lamb was tender and one was able to chew it easily. Some may felt that it tasted a bit gamey but its just nice for me. Crispy Egg Seafood Noodles 生面 ($10.80) The noodles was nicely crisp, topped with lots of liao on top. Sweet and Sour Pork with Sunny Side up and Fragrant Rice 古老肉饭 ($8.00) Another zi char dish which was quite popular with the customers. The meat was juicy sweet and tender. German Pork Knuckle 德国猪蹄 ($55.80) Pre-order only "Chef Specialty" presented with garden green salad, homemade mash potato and thai chilli sauceThe skin was nicely crisp without too hard and the meat went quite well with the dip. One would wish that the mash was not hidden under the pile of meat. Roast Beef 烤牛肉 ($88.00) Pre-order only 600gms Roast beef cooked to order. Presented with garden green salad and oven baked potato complemented with black pepper brown sauce Ribeye was used here and cooked to nice pink in colour. Although the meat was tender, certain parts needed the jaws to work a bit more. The green salad which was served with a creamy dressing was quite nice and the fish roes in it gave a burst in texture.
