For my third cafe hopping stop, the guys decide on here as they want to have something filling for lunch. The place is located in the middle of a row of shophouses, and one has to make own way to the second floor through a rather dark staircase. I have quite a spin in the head, coming in from the bright and sunny outside to the dark staircase (I kind of blank out for a moment) to the bright and noisy cafe.

We are placed on the waiting list, and 9 of us squeeze into a table for 5 by window. Very packed but we are happy that we do not have to split to different tables.

After deciding on what to order, one just pays at the cashier. GST is charged here.

Belgian-styled Waffle ($12+)
served with Vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, almonds & fruits
Since I am not very hungry (hi its my third within a short time), I decide on a which turns out to be a bad choice. Firstly the waffle is soft but not fluffy. Secondly it is not crispy on the outside too. Feel more like a stale wafffle, not a freshly made one. Maybe mass production on a busy day. Also topped up another $3+ to upgrade the ice cream to avocado gula melaka ice cream. It turns out to be a waste of money as there is barely any avocado or gula melaka taste in the ice cream. It just tastes creamy that all.

Overall it has been a disappointing meal for me. Should have stick to what the guys have ordered as they seems happy with the beef stew and chicken salad.

Disappointing meal Cry Jun 02, 2014

The counter

The cafe is well hidden inside. Simple cement floor with colourful walls makes up the place. The place is packed but we have a sofa seat to relax on. Menu is a simple one piece of paper on board.

Cappuccino ($4.50)
Comes with a beautiful latte art on top. Tastewise would prefer it to be stronger.

Snow Daisy Tea ($6/ pot)
The tea is not bad with a kind of flowery taste, but becomes quite bitter after sometimes.

Potato Rosti ($16)
Freshly made Rosti served with Scrambled Eggs, Bacon & Gormet Pork Sausage
We have waited the longest time for this dish. The rosti is char burnt and tastes abit bitter on one side while the other side feels quite oily. The scrambled egg is not creamy enough.

Waffle with Ice Cream ($8)
The waffle is average, not fluffy but with a crispy edge and more on the thin side.
The rocking horse

The rocking horse

Overall the food is simply cannot make it. But it is quite a relaxing place with Mr Bean showing on the screen. By the way if you have a little kid with you, there is a rocking horse made of bamboo to play with. Service is more on the slow side. Also have a bit of problem when billing. The cashier has problem finding the bill. In end I just tell him what have I ordered.

New desserts Cry Mar 09, 2014
Categories : Desserts and Cakes

Recently Mr Bean has introduced new desserts into its menu which is currently only available in its Bedok Mall's outlet. The outlet is quite hidden by the rather dark walkway. I first notice it by its attractive display of desserts.

Currently Mr Bean is having a promotion of $15 for 9 pieces of $2 voucher. A free cushion is given if one buy 2 packets of the vouchers. And another promotion in this outlet until end of this month is that for every order of dessert at this outlet one will be given a chop. With 7 chops, one will receive a free dessert. So I decide to buy 8 desserts at one go. However the staff at the counter is unable to handle the order with another shouting the order to her. I think she also starts to panic when queue forms behind me. Please note that there is no one behind me when I am placing my order. Due to the queue, I am asked to wait at the table while they prepare my order. As I feel that I have charged incorrectly for the food, I ask for the receipt which I am told that I will receive with the rest of the order.

Tango Twist ($3.30)
I have this at the outlet as it is recommended that it will not last if I have it takeaway. Tastes quite cold and refreshing with the mango cubes, but feel that the pomelo is a bit bitter and would be better with more shaved ice.

Signature Savoury Beancurd ($3.50)
Hot & Spicy minced meat with mushroom & garnishes. Smooth, silky Mr Bean beancurd with a savoury twist.

Tang Yuan ($3.30)
Available in black sesame or peanut filling and with 3 different coating such as peanut, black sesame and soya powder. Like the way the tang yuan and the coating powder is packed separating for takeaway.

Sweet & Roasted Peanut Beancurd ($3.30)
I have ordered Sweet & Roasted Peanut Soup ($2.80), but is given Sweet & Roasted Peanut Beancurd ($3.30). The peanut is quite soft.

8 Treasures Beancurd ($3.30)
Consists of red beans, green beans, lotus seeds, yellow peas, great lima beans, red kidney beans, barley and peanuts. I actually order 8 Treasure Soup ($2.80), but is given 8 Treasures Beancurd.

Almond Paste Beancurd ($3.50)
I have ordered Almond Paste ($3.30) for Mom which she likes, but is given Almond Paste Beancurd which she does not want. Could not taste of the almond in this dessert. The flavour is quite light.

Black Sesame Paste Beancurd ($3.50)
I have ordered Black Sesame Paste ($3.30), but is given Black Sesame Paste Beancurd ($3.50). This is even more worse than the almond paste version. Too watery and no flavour.

Red Bean Beancurd ($3.20)
I have ordered Red Bean Soup ($2.50), but is given Red Bean Beancurd ($3.20). Not much different from the 8 Treasures Beancurd.

I have checked the receipt and see that all the desserts have included beancurd in them and I have charged an average additional $0.50 each of these desserts. That means an additional of about $3 of what should have been. As I am in rushing off, and I decide to let it go. Overall due to the bad experience I have at this outlet, I do not think I will visit this outlet in the near future. For all the trouble I have received when those have received is not what they have wanted. Do I want to go through that again?

Disappointing. Cry Mar 03, 2014

Categories : European | Fusion | High Tea | Desserts and Cakes | Steaks and Grills

As a friend has bought a $75 voucher from Groupon for $50, we decide to redeem at this outlet. Upon reaching the restaurant, we have a difficult time getting the attention of the staff. Blockage is placed at the entrance and I am not sure what is it for. When the staff leds us in, the blockage is not placed aside for us. We have to do it ourselves.

Inside the restaurant, there is quite a number of empty tables and we showed to one in the centre. One thing that hits me inside is the strong smell from kitchen. It turns out that the ventilation in the kitchen has been broken down. The place is decorated quite grandly with crystal lights on top.

There is also buttons to press for service or bill at the table number tag. When placing our order, we are disappointed to find out that half the dishes such as beef burger, Spaghetti alle Fungi, Scallop Linguine, Fish & Chips and Duck Confit are not available. Feel the menu is rather limited , there is not much choices left.

For the mains, we have

Seafood Laksa Spaghetti ($27)
Seared Scallops and Tiger Prawns with Lightly Spiced Laksa Sauce.
Although it looks nicely presented, the taste is simply cannot make it. Firstly it is quite oily. Secondly there is any laksa taste. More like chilli padi's taste. There is barley any flavour in the scallops or prawns.

Norwegian Salmon ($28)
Seared Paprika Salmon with Truffle Whipped Potato & Asparagus & Rosemary Tomatoes
The salmon is overcooked and uneven seasoned. Some parts tastes quite salty to me. There is not a bit of truffle taste in the whipped potato.

For drinks, I have

Iced Chocolate ($9)
which tastes rather weak.

while my friend have

Poof Poof ($12)
made of Apple, Lychee and Cranberry Juice shaken till perfection 100% poofy.
which she could barley made herself finish it.

Lastly for dessert, we have

Haute ($6)
Vanilla Cake with Lemon Curd topped with Chantilly Cream.
Quite disappointing as I barely find any lemon taste in it. But has rather nutty texture.

Red Velvet ($6)
Light Tinge of Chocolate Vanilla Cake with Rum Raisin and Cream Cheese Topping
Also disappointed in it as one cannot taste the rum, nor the chocolate.

Overall quite disappointed with the food as well as the service, especially from the manager who took our order for main. The place is quite noisy and cannot seem to match with the image which the restaurant is trying to build. The staffs tend to leave half way while through our questions.

Overcooked food Cry Feb 08, 2014
Categories : Taiwanese

After my last visit to this outlet, I have recently won a $10 voucher from its facebook contest. Today I have visited the outlet again to redeem the voucher. I decide to try other items whish I have not tried before.

Tempura ($3.50)
At first look, it looks like over deep fried fish cakes. The tempura tastes dried up and too tough. Not the soft and chewy kind which I have tasted before in Taiwan.

Crispy Spicy Chicken Bites Set ($5.30)
It is served with a peach tea. The chicken is quite crispy, but also very spicy and salty to me. The chicken has a kind of tough texture, a sign of frozen meat.

Fried Mushroom ($3.20)
The mushroom is rather soft and not crispy at all. I tastes more of batter than mushroom. Barely can find any mushroom in it. And there is too much seasoning in it that overpowered the mushroom's taste.

Overall I am a bit disappointed in the choices I have made today. Better stick to its well known chicken cutlet.
