Thought that the place was not crowded but turned out that most of the tables were under reservation. In the end we decided on the counter seats with a great view of the staffs grilling the sticks. Although we were sitting right in front of the grilling section, it was not smoky.

While looking through the menu, we were served a complimentary side dish which was lightly dressed cabbage.

Volcano Roll ($9.90++/ 4pcs)
Sushi roll with avocado, crabmeat, and cucumber on top with spicy salmon, flying fish roe and homemade spicy mayonnaise sauce
Felt the roll itself was rather bland without the mayonnaise sauce. The avocado, crab meat and salmon could barely be tasted.

Bakudan Korokke ($8.90++)
Homemade Egg Potato Croquette
It looked like a deep fried ball when served. Cut it opened, one would be able to see the molten lava egg yolk flowing out smooothlng from inside. Potato salad enclosed the egg. Interesting dish by itself. No wonder it was recommended by the staff.

Tsukune ($4.90++)
Big Chicken Meatball with Cheese
The meatball were so juicy and crunchy that my partner thought we were having pork meatballs and could not believe that its chicken.

Enoki Bacon ($3.90++)
Bacon & Golden Mushroom with Garlic Soy Sauce
The stick looked rather dry but it was juicy and crunchy.

Eringi ($3.90++)
Oyster Mushroom in Garlic Butter
I like that the mushroom was lightly seasoned which one could still taste the actual flavour of the mushroom.

We down the meal with green tea ($1++/ pax), which was refillable.

Mui kee pop up OK Jul 18, 2017
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Italian | Pasta

Mui Kee 妹記生滾粥品, which was from Hong Kong, was having a 6 months pop up at this cafe from 30 June to 31th December 2017, Tue - Sun : 7.30am - 3pm.

Beware of insects and other bugs around while dining.
Make sure you not eating one of them.
Make sure they are not crawling on you.

Felt so tourist brunching here, surrounded by doggies around.
Thought a table was empty. Turned out someone tied the dog to the table to chope the table. Asked the next table who couldn't answer.

Waited about an hour for the food to arrive, as porridge just ran out when I placed order. Else it would be about 30 minutes.

Fish Belly Porridge (S$14.50)

Served with a side of dough fritters & century egg
One could taste that the fish belly had gone through stir fried with rice wine before adding to the porridge. There's a distinct soya bean milk aftertaste in the porridge.

Homemade Pork Meatballs Porridge (S$12.50)
Served with a side of dough fritters & century egg
The meatball porridge was pretty bland, comparing to the fish belly porridge.

Drunken Chicken
(S$10)
The chicken was tender but surprisingly sweet in taste and lacking of the alcoholic taste which associated with the dish.

Pig's  Innards (S$9)
Not sure why but the dish was served with porridge like grain. The pig's liver was a tab too rare and quite veiny too, making it quite an effort to chew. The intestine had lingering bitter taste.

Grilled pork rice bowl OK Jul 18, 2017

Categories : Japanese | Restaurant

The outlet was located at the second level by the escalator. The dine in area was quite open. Menu was limited, just a single page. There was 10% service charge. The place was pretty empty except for a Japanese family sitting right at the back.

Premium Butadon (S$22.80+)
Served with mini salad, miso soup and tsubedoke
300 grams premium pork from Japan, grilled by 850 degree Celsius.
"Tare", Original sauce imported from Hokkaido.
Yumepirica, sticky & sweet rice, best Hokkaido rice.
Thin slices of flavourful meat although would prefer it to be more tender.

Another exp theme cafe OK Jul 12, 2017

The place looked great with lots of cartoon character figures around. I was shown to a chosen table which I later found that the chair had oily stains on.

Quite a lot of choices on the menu. Prices were more on the high sides.

Wonder Woman's Box Office Power Drink ($10.90++)
An ice-blended beverage created with all-time favourite salted caramel popcorn flavour
The drink was quite sweet and lacking of the popcorn taste which one was expecting. Instead it tasted more like oreo cookie. Maybe it should have a change of description.

Paradise Island Mac & Cheese  (S$18.90++)
Conchiglie rigate baked in special 5 cheese  sauce and mentaiko sauce, flavoured with white button mushrooms , turkey  bacon and garlic
My first choice was pancake but I was informed it was not available more than 10 minutes after I had placed my order. The pasta was well cooked and flavourful, although one could not taste the 5 distinct taste of cheese nor the pollack roe which was commonly found in mentaiko sauce. The dish itself was a tab dry. Didn't really found any garlic, but there was shrimps in it. Needed another change of description here.

Beauty hotpot Smile Jul 12, 2017

Categories : Japanese | Sukiyaki/Shabu Shabu

The restaurant was located at the end. There was no no queue, but all members of the dining had to be around before being shown to a table. Comparing to its menu when it just opened in Singapore, the menu had expanded a lot to Curry Flavour and Spicy Chili Flavour Collagen chicken stock , shabu shabu, sukiyaki, and shaved ice.

Nikumaki ($3.50++)
Nikumaki onigri is bite-sized rice ball wrapped in pork, baked with a special soy sauce.
Felt it was quite savoury with the rice inside moist and flavourful.

Nikumaki Cheese ($3.80++)
Melted cheese on Nikumaki.
The cheese flavour was quite distinct and could be slightly overwhelming.

Bijin Nabe (S$25++/ person)
1. Soup Base - Spicy Chili Flavour Collagen Chicken Stock

2. Ingredients - Lettuce, Baby Sweet Potato Leaves, Enoki Mushrooms, Baby Corn, Black Fungus, Deep Fried Tofu, Tori Tsukune, Sunflower Sprout, Prawn, and Watermelon Radish
3. Noodle - Thick Mochi-Mochi Noodle

Served with Basic Sauce Set : Homemade Chili Oil, Leek Oil, Yuzu Pepper, Homemade Chili Padi Soy Sauce

The soup base was served in jelly form, which will melt as the pot warm up. After it was fully melted, the staff would served the stewed chicken in bowl with the soup in a tiny tasting cup. The soup was rich and flavourful without too spicy.

The staff placed the ingredients in the hotpot, with the noodle last after finishing most of the ingredients in the pot. The staff also served a seaweed based paste which was said to enhance the soup's taste.

After finishing the hotpot, we were served a plate which was decorated in a cutesy way with jelly cube for dessert.

"Shirokuma" Shaved Ice ($7.80++)
Shaved ice and condensed milk, shaped into a white bear that is cute to eat.
It was cute and not too sweet. Would prefer the ice to be shaved finer and the milk to be distribute more evenly instead of just the centre.
