High and Mighty Smile Mar 31, 2012

High and Mighty is a REALLY big and tall chocolate cake. A slice costs $8.50, not sure how much one whole cake costs though.

The entire cake is covered in a thin layer of chocolate coating and chocolate cream. The cake is basically just a simple chocolate sponge cake, with layers of chocolate cream in between. Its served with a single dollop of whipped cream and chocolate sauce for decoration. I wouldn't suggest trying to finish it alone. It might look un-filling because of the sponge cake but trust me, even with 2 of us we still struggled to finish the last bits.

Brazilian Cheese Bun Smile Mar 31, 2012

Categories : Japanese | Fusion | Bakery

My favourite bun from Provence Bakery (there are outlets in PS and Holland V) is the brazilian chesse bun.

Its about the size of a soft ball, costs 90 cents and is one of the nicest buns i have ever had in Singapore. The crust is crispy and burnt slightly brown, and the insides has a chewy texture - not too cheesy as if a lumped of cheese was stuck inside and left to melt, but a nice blend of soft bread with a hint of smoked cheese.

What i like about the PS outlet is that traffic here is very high. The breads get sold out and replenished pretty fast so you almost always get bread right from the oven.

Egg Royale @ prive Smile Mar 29, 2012

Categories : Steaks and Grills

We visited Prive recently for their all day breakfast (9.30am - 5pm) for brunch and i ordered an Egg Royale ($16) after hearing so much about it from friends. Its basically a dish of english muffins with eggs, a creamy sauce and smoke salmon. I liked it because the english muffin was crispy! which was a surprise considering the egg, sauce and salmon piled on top of it. Probably the best egg benedict/ egg royale i've had in Singapore so far!

To get to Prive at Keppel Bay, its easier to drive than to take public transport because the bus stop isn't near the cafe at all. Having brunch at Prive is a nice way spend the morning - enjoy the seabreeze, the sun and the sight of yachts at the habour.

Binjal Park Pizza Smile Mar 29, 2012
Categories : Italian | Pasta

Visited the binjai park brunch on a weekday night and it was fairly quiet.
We had a 12inch pizza ($21) with 2 toppings: Salmon; and Ham and mushroom. The salmon was not very fresh, thus I did not enjoy that particular topping. But the ham and mushroom was very fragrant! We fought for the last piece.

One thing I liked about pepperoni pizzeria is that prices come with GST inclusive and no service charge. Therefore it was a lot easier to estimate the cost when ordering and split the bill when paying. Another great thing is you can watch them make the pizzas because their kitchen opens out into the restaurant sitting area.

Recommended Dish(es):  any pizza

Spending per head: Approximately $21(Dinner)

Cafebiz - fantastic buffet  Smile Mar 27, 2012

Categories : Multi-Cuisine | Hotel | Restaurant | Seafood | Buffet

I would totally recommend this buffet. It has fantastic seafood, a wide selection of dishes and mouth watering desserts. Even the complimentary fruit juice was great – the orange juice was pulpy and definitely not syrup base! And the waitresses were ever attentive and very helpful when I asked for a surprise birthday cake for my uncle.

First the seafood – sashimi, oyster, clams, prawns (cold ones and grilled ones). All fresh, all big and sweet.

The others –there were so many I can hardly remember all now. What left an impression was the indian food (surprisingly nice for a hotel buffet), the cheese section (suits our Asian taste bud, unlike a few other buffets that serve very strong cheese that we are unused to), the soup (bakuteh was very close to hawker standards!)

And the desserts – HEAVENLY. I particularly enjoyed the tarts, waffles and cheesecake. In fact, if you are a desserts person, I would suggest starting from the desserts then going on to the rest of the buffet. Its really too good to miss anything.
