Red Garoupa Fish Soup Smile Nov 15, 2011

It's not easy to find a Fish Soup stall that sells Garoupa Fish besides Toman or Batang but I'm glad to have discovered this place not too far from my home.

At first glance, the soup looks boring and bland but one taste of the soup and you know instantly it is fresh and good stuff. The fish was tender and fresh and it was such a joy to eat it! I find Batang/Toman fish slices a tad fishy if it is not fresh or not cooked properly but no such problem here.

One portion is $6 excluding rice, a little expensive but worth the quality. They could add more green veggies to make the look more appetising smile

Tea Time! Smile Oct 04, 2011

When a food establishment has been around so long like Bakerzin, you would expect them to constantly improve and invent to cater to the fickle tastebuds of the food masses. They do have tried and tested recipes like their macarons and souffles but their savoury items are a bit of a hit-and-miss affair.

Desserts has been maintained at a constant quality and taste to please sweet-toothed customers and the following cakes reviewed attest to that.

The Strawberry Shortcake that I had was very soft, fluffy, light and well-presented. A pleasant prelude to a dinner that will follow some hours later.

The Mango Mousse, though it tasted ok, was a bit 'tough' in texture. I think they overdid the gelatine that day. The top layer of cake was a bit hard to slice through so it was an exercise eating the cake in a neat manner.

Prata Wrap Smile Oct 04, 2011

Turkey Ham Prata Wrap

Turkey Ham Prata Wrap

I am at a loss sometimes over what to prepare or buy for lunch for my children, but I thought this Prata Wrap by GoGo Franks was a wonderful idea.

Instead of the usual wheat flour wrap that we usually come across, they have used a familiar local Prata to do it.

It is a simple idea but with a local twist and flavour. I had the Turkey Ham wrap which came with freshly toasted Prata, grilled Turkey Ham and lettuce with some mustard.

It would be even better had the dressing been curry, then it would make the wrap more local flavoured smile

YUMMY Cranberry Loaf Smile Sep 26, 2011

Cranberry Loaf

Cranberry Loaf

YES!!! Another Japanese bakery which bakes lovely little bread and buns.

This is one of my favourite 'commercial' loaf of bread. Four Leaves is very generous with the cranberries which lends a sweet and slightly tangy taste to the soft buttery bread.

It is excellent with fresh organic butter and makes a wonderful breakfast or snack item tongue

The strange thing is that they do not sell a whole loaf of it, you have to buy 2 halves to make it up. Neverhteless, I will buy four packets in one go to freeze at home so I will have a ready supply when the craving strikes tongue

Great Nasi Ayam Smile Oct 18, 2011

Nasi Ayam

Nasi Ayam

Normally, I tend not to buy Malay Chicken Rice as I find the chicken rather dry and tough.

However, I was pleasantly surprised by this Masi Ayam at the Pasir Panjang Fodd Centre.
The chicken was well-flavoured, moist and tender and it came with a generous bowl of soup. The soup had a fair amount of beansprouts but was a bit too salty. The chilli accompanying the rice was more of like duck rice chilli, but it still went well with the chicken.

A good alternative to our standard Hainanese chicken rice smile
