Coffee Bean offers a whole range of breakfast set options, from toasts to oatmeal, egg benedict etc. Each set comes with a cup of freshly brewed coffee/tea that is free to refill till 11.00am daily. Or you can pay additional to get your drink of choice.

Brek 'O' Day (~$8) is served with scrambled eggs, two slices of toasts, two sausages and salad. I quite like their freshly made salad, the crisp lettuce, generous amount of flake almond and cranberries is drizzled with sweet tangy dressing, very appetizing!

Salmon scrambled (~$8) consists of scrambled egg and smoked salmon staked on a muffin bun. The smoked salmon is quite salty, yet tastes alright if consume together with the egg in a mouthful.

Paying the bill with UOB credit card at Coffee Bean will get you a 10% SMART$ rebates.

Satisfying Jap food Smile Jan 23, 2013   (Related Review)

Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Ramen

RamenPlay is one of my favourite eateries when I'm craving for ramen. This time round I had the Spicy tonkotsu ramen ($10.80). The rich soup base of Tonkotsu is so flavourful and yummy to sip on. The special spices they used has a good aroma, not just giving you the spiciness but good flavour. This fiery meal is great for spice lovers, like me.

Butariki ishinabe ($12.80) is quite nice too. This stone pot rice gives sizzling crackle for extra fragrant and crunching. The rice contains top standard ingredients such as premium Japanese Niigata BBQ pork, spring onion, and seaweed, and finally topped with a raw egg. The sauce they used certainly boosts the overall flavour too

Yaki dango (3 pcs) ($3.80) is very yummy and it's a must try I reckon. The minced meat ball is huge, and well-seasoned, what makes it great is the sauce coated outside, slightly sweet like terriyaki sauce but with a hint of ginger I think.

Okura mentaiyaki ($4.80) is my must-order dish whenever I visit RamenPlay. The lady fingers are crunchy and yummy, especially when topped with the cod roe mayonnaise. The creamy and rich flavour is well-balanced by the greens. Great combination.

Hot green tea costs $1.20 at this restaurant. The food and service here are great, but the only thing I might pick on is their air con, too cold and food tends to turn cold in a blink.

Place for beer fans OK Jan 23, 2013
Categories : Bars/Lounges

This hidden bar and bistro place is quietly located at the outside corner of the Valley Point's shopping mall. They serve a whole variety of beers, mostly imported from oversea that you could hardly find elsewhere in Singapore. Hence if you are a big beer fans, you know where to go. There's also a big TV screen inside the bistro that you could watch sports while sipping on the chilled beer.

I'm not very into beer, but I quite like Anker boscoli ($11). It's a fruity beer, not overly gassy. Apart from tasting the fruity flavour, you still have this beer after taste. The whole fragrant is good. The alcohol content is less than 4%, very ladies-friendly.

For starter, we have the Pan-seared Scallops ($14), which served carrot puree and chef's garnish such as crunchy asparagus and beans. To be honest, I think the scallops are frozen type, that doesn't have much of the fresh seafood taste. Carrot puree is Ok, at least it adds some of the flavour to the scallops.

Roasted thymed chicken ($20), served with mushroom and jus. The meat is tender and juicy, good texture but it's a bit under-seasoned. The gravy helps a bit, but not by much.

Crispy duck confit ($28) on the other hand, is slightly too salty. The skin is crispy and the meat is not overly dry, which is yummy. The saltiness is bearable, and quite alright when eating with fennel and apple salad. the apple salad is yummy, very refreshing and delicious.

Ordinary Taiwanese Food OK Jan 23, 2013
Categories : Taiwanese

It's my first visit to this tiny little Taiwanese restaurant at Star Vista. One would realize that there are more seats outdoor as compared to indoor. It was very windy and breezy outdoor, good atmosphere to chill out with mates. You can either order just the main course, or choose to make your main course as set by additional $6, where you could get an appetizer of the day and a glass of drink. Well, the appetizer is kind of disappointing, it's just salted peanuts (not my favourite) and thin beancurd slices. Not impressive.

Drink wise, you can choose to have either fruity greentea, or fruity red tea. You get to choose the flavour of the fruit too. Quite alright, though nothing too special.

For main course, I tried the Pig intestine mee sua ($8). The ingredients considered quite a lot, and the mee sua tastes good, with good texture. I quite like it. However, I'd prefer the oyster mee sua, but it's a shame that they don't have it.

Taiwan beef noodles ($12) is quite nice too. The gravy is rich and flavourful, the texture of the beef is tender, after being braised for long. But I reckon it's slightly too expensive.

Braised minced pork rice ($8) is kind of a signature dish for Taiwanese cuisine. This eatery done it Ok, but not superb. It's too much rice but too little braised meat I reckon.

Chicken chop rice ($10) is so huge in portion. The chicken is surprisingly tender even after deep-fried. The batter is not thick too. I'd recommend this if you are a meaty person. Yummy.

Japanese Italian Smile Jan 23, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Pasta

Kabe no Ana is one of the restaurant under Shokutsu 10. What makes this restaurant stands out from others, is it's actually serving Japanese style of Italian cuisine. Hence, you could find a whole range of pasta choices on the menu.

There is a cartoon sheet on each table, showing the history of the restaurant. How it came to the stage of making Japanese pasta. Quite entertaining.

I had the Chef recommendation, Salmon Horensou cream and mentai mayo baked rice ($12.90), which is the garlic rice with salmon and spinach baked in cream sauce, and then topped with spicy cod roe mayonnaise. It's sizzling hot, and with small amount of burned rice at the bottom. It's so fragrantly nice, and I love how salmon and spinach matches each other. Thumbs up.

Each baked rice comes with a portion of salad. Nothing special though.

Mentaiko carbonara ($13.90) is such a comfort food. The rich and creamy pasta cooked with spicy cod roe carbonara sauce, and is accompanied by bacon and a poached egg at the center. The runny egg yolk gives an extra flavour to the pasta, balance up the creamy taste.
