Not just for Ramen Smile May 11, 2013

Wanted to try their Ramen but this B.G. Don caught my attention in their menu as it is apparently limited to 20 sets per day. I decided to try it and it does not disappoint.

On top of sticky Japanese rice lies 4 chunks of chicken with some salad. Intially i thought the chicken was marinated in typical teriyaki sauce, but i was pleasantly suprised that it was not. The sauce is more towards savoury that sweet, and they were sprinkled with chilli spice powder. The chicken was grilled until smoky yet remain juicy and tender. Really very appetising! Moreover, the quality and portion was quite value for money.

Good choice if u crave for rice whereas your partner want Ramen!

Dulcet & Studio is a Japanese theme restaurant that serves Japanese meals, but i think they are more well-known for their wide variety of cakes and pastries.

I took away their signature Cream Puff (raved by many as the BEST in Singapore) and their Tea Time cake (which looks like those 'Hokkaido cake' that many bakeries sell).
TeaTime Cake, Cream Puff

TeaTime Cake, Cream Puff

Their signature Cream Puff used to be sold at specific timings where they will churn out limited amount. At that time, though it is harder to get and one might risk being disappointed despite going all the way there just to taste this delicacy, it tasted better as those puff are made fresh from the oven. Now, though it is still delicious, their way of making a big quantity and and keeping them in the fridge so that it will be available to more customer causes their Cream Puff to lose a little of the fragrant, crispy texture that the top used to have. Nevertheless, i still love their puffs as the custard inside is smooth and full of real vanilla aroma.
The Tea Time Cake is basically a very light sponge cake with cream piped in the middle. They use buttercream which is very smooth, but i would prefer their fresh cream or custard filling.

Recommended for people who Japanese cakes and pastries!

Good Sandwich Smile May 03, 2013

My friend and i decided to grab a mid-morning snack at Hoshino Coffee one day when we were meeting for an event at Plaza Singapura. I straight away ordered their Shrimp, Avocado and Egg Toast when i saw it in their menu because i am a huge fan of avocado.

Our toast took some time to come but from the quality of the food, i am willing to wait. The bread was toasted until crispy on the surface yet soft inside. The toast was bursting with creamy egg mayo, fresh soft avocado, crunchy sweet prawns, slices of cucumber and tomato and tangy tomato sauce. I was enjoying my toast so much that i polished them off in record speed.tongue

If you are wondering what is in the small bowl at the side of the toast, it is actually 2 olives poked in a cute toothpick. I left that out as after a bite, i simply dislike the taste. I wonder what is the chef purpose of serving the olives with the sandwich. Is it simply to enhance the presentation or as i feel more likely, to refresh the tastebud? Either or, it is not suitable for olives hater like me. tongue

Nice toast to treat ourselves once in a while as it doesn't come cheap being priced at $9.80 before gst and svc. Recommended.:bowchopstickl:lol

After a few days of feasting on meat and sweets, i decided to drop by Bibigo for some healthy, veggie-rich meal.

I ordered the Hot Stone Bibimbap, choosing barley and white rice, tofu toppings and traditional Kohot sauce. The meal came quite fast with a soy beansprout soup on the side. The soup was light and refreshing, with the umami taste of soy beansprout that is used to boil it.smile

The Bibimbap comes with a wide variety of vegetables like mushrooms, broccoli, etc. Without the sauce, it is a little plain tasting. Thus, one MUST add the sauce! I was given a packet of Kohot sauce and sesame oil. Adding them into the rice and mixing everything together in the hotstone makes my stomach rumble even more. I like the fact that their hotstone bowl unlike those served in most korean stalls in kopitiam. Their hotstone makes some of the rice crispy, but not charred. A plastic rubber is attached on the top to prevent us from burning our hands when we scoop the food. Thumbs up for their thoughtfulness.lol

A very pleasing experience with Bibigo. I will drop by again for other food like their seafood pancakes and red chicken that i saw other customers having that day which looked too delicious to give them a miss! tongue

watery soy pudding Cry May 03, 2013

I got to know of this restaurant after chancing upon it's article in MyPaper. Their proclaimation of their soy beancurd being 'organic, no agar agar, no gypsum and no gelatin added' and most interestingly- 'with collagen' caught my attention. Thus, i dropped by on a hot afternoon for a taste of this healthy treat.

Their soya beancurd comes in original, almond, osmanthus and green tea flavour. I have always like the smell of osmanthus in some chinese desserts, so i decided to try the osmanthus flavoured one.

The soy beancurd was presented to me with a spoon on a black plastic tray which made the experience rather 'classy'.

The beancurd was brown in colour which i later got to know that is because brown sugar was used. Taste wise, it was really not what i expected at all. There wasn't any distinct osmanthus taste nor smell, neither does it have the fragrance of soyabean. Texture wise, despite having it right out of the fridge (the beancurd was real cold), i was drinking more water than eating beancurd. I think it tasted like diluted milky light brown sugar drink. The beancurd doesn't have any pudding texture at all and turn immediately to water upon entering my mouth. The whole thing keep turning to water as i scoop the beancurd.

Disappointed with this beancurd pudding as it is really of low standard. Will not patron them when my beancurd craving strikes again.
