1st Visit to Mayim OK Apr 12, 2012
Categories : Dim Sum | Noodles

It was my first visit to Mayim, and I certainly would go back again. As to why, you'll find out below. smile

Had met-up with my classmate and as she was craving for dim sum, she recommended going to Mayim, saying it was nice and the price was reasonable. When we reached, there was a short queue but it was our turn very quickly. We got a side table and I saw that the plate was really cute! The menu was full of delights, SO MANY CHOICES TO CHOOSE FROM! I had to think for a good 10minutes on what I wanted to order bcos I felt like ordering all the items, the photos simply made them look too appetizing. After a long while, I finally decided on a plate of dried noodles with roasted duck, and my friend ordered some dim sum for us to share. I also ordered a Milk Tea to go along with my meal. The dishes were served really fast. smile

Duck Noodles
The noodles is worth the money. Noodles were springy, and the roast duck was not too hard. The sauce to stir in the noodles was flavourful too. Only thing was the veg was too little for me. mad

Dim Sum
The xiao long bao was really juicy, the juice just burst into your mouth, full of flavours. A tad too salty though. Ingredients used were fresh. smile
The bacon and spring onion pastry was really dry, and pastry was too thick. Too much spring onion and too little bacon. I didnt really like this, so only ate about 3 mouths.
The prawn dumpling was my favourite. Although the skin used was abit thick, The prawn was juicy. Piping hot when I ate it, burnt my tongue. tongue
Lastly, there's bbq chicken bun, but I felt abit 'cheated' by the name of it, as it was char siew inside. Same thing as the other dim sum, the skin was too thick, very little fillings.

Milk Tea
The taste was not wat I expected. It had a more 'tea' taste, while I was used to the 'more milky' taste. I didnt like it during the 1st few gulps I took, but slowly it bcame nicer to drink. Haha, so in the end, I drank it all up. smile

Overall, although the dim sum wasnt that nice, the price was considered low as compared to other places which have dim sum. Their main was nice, and there's so many choices of food you can choose to eat. Thus, the next time I go, I will try their other dishes available. smile

One thing to note: They serve pickled veg once you sit at a table, and for that, it cost each person 50cents, and another 30cents per person for wet tissue. I didnt really like this as it all adds up in the bill, and these arent necessary. Thus, if you don't want them, you'll have to tell the waitress in advance. smile

Bite @ Texas Chicken! Smile Mar 16, 2012

Categories : American | Fast Food | Halal

You may be surprised, it was only my 2nd visit to Texas Chicken in my whole life. However, the 1st time I went to Texas Chicken, I had alrdy fell in love with the mash potato sold there. As I wasnt really very hungry, my friend got 1 set meal and the 2 of us shared it tgt.

There were alot of ppl at the fast food restaurant when we got there, and we only managed to find a sit after waiting for a while. The queue was quite long too, so we waited quite some time for that too.

When my friend brought the set to the table, I saw that he had ordered a set which came with 2 pieces of chicken (spicy of course, as we both like spicy food), 1 fried bun, 1 mash potato, and a cup of Coke. I didnt like the taste of Coke, so after drinking 1 mouth, the rest were his. 1st thing I grabbed? The mash potato of course, my favourite. The potato melts in your mouth, and the sauce that came with was just perfect. Eating the sauce and potato tgt was a great combination, it tasted oh-so-fabulous! smile However, my only grouse was that there wasnt enough of the brown sauce to satisfy me. Hehe, I like my potato to be drenched in sauce all over.

The chicken was not bad either; crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. It was piping hot and I scalded my fingers a few times while trying to peel off the crispy skin to eat. It was pretty spicy though, so I had to drink a few more sips of Coke. The bun was pretty nice too. I actually put mash potato on it and ate it together, turned out it wasnt so bad! smile

Overall, the chicken was nice, and not too oily too. Mash potato was really nice too.

Thumbs Up for their cakes! :D Smile Dec 21, 2011

Categories : American | Restaurant | Steaks and Grills | Kids-Friendly

I have never eaten at Cafe Cartel before, nor step foot into one outlet. Not until this time, when my fren pulled me there; to queue for their cakes.

We were at Bukit Panjang Plaza shopping and it was almost 9pm. My fren asked me to accompany her to Cafe Cartel as there were 50% off cakes after 9pm. Said that the cakes there were heavenly, to which i replied i nv dined there before. LOL. mad

When we got to level 1, there was alrdy a short queue in front of us. The cakes were very expensive, and I'm talking about a slice, not a whole cake, which may be why people are rushing to buy when they are having an offer. We saw people buying up to abt 5-8slices each, so the cakes are practically flying off the shelves. smile Luckily we were among the 1st few, so we got a few variety to choose from.

My fren bought 1 and gave it to me, saying it was a treat since i treated her last time. The cake was placed in a plastic packaging, whereas if one gets ard 6-8 cakes, a box will be provided. It was chocolate cake, my favourite. smile

The taste of the cake was really nice, it's like those melt in your mouth kind, simply indescribable until you try it yourself. It was soft, and kind of creamy and spongy cake in between. It looks plain, but the taste is there. The chocolate shreds at the side of the cake helps to make the cake nicer too. smile

Overall, best cake I've ever tasted. Waiting for the next time when I'll be dropping by a Cafe Cartel Outlet. lol

P.S. Do queue up early so that you will be able to choose from more flavours. If too late, there wont be much choices to choose from.

Teriyaki Chicken Set, Again. :D Smile Dec 21, 2011
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Japanese | Fast Food

I think there isnt any other person who is so crazy about the teriyaki chicken set from Yoshinoya. Everytime I went there, be it myself or with my frens, my choice would remain the same - Teriyaki chicken set. smile

This time round, I went alone to Causeway Point to have my lunch as no one cooked at home and my frens were busy. I went directly straight to Yoshinoya, put down my bags on one empty table and went to order my food. It was a weekday so it was pretty quiet; there was only 2 other customers sitting down eating when i paid for my teriyaki chicken rice set. Used my student card so that i could choose the student meal, which was cheaper at $4.95. There were 2 choices for student meal, Choice 1 & 2, where 2 came with a side (tgt with a drink and main). I chose Choice 1, since i knew i had a small appetite and couldnt finish up if there was another side. The drinks available for the set was pretty limited; and all were gassy, which i didnt like. I changed the drink to ice lemon tea, which required an additional 50 cents top-up. Although it was expensive, i just changed it as it would be useless if i ordered the set but dun drink the drink too. :X

The food was served pretty fast, since Yoshinoya's setting was pretty much like fast food restaurants. Went to my table and started eating, but felt there was too little teriyaki sauce given. Went to the cashier and requested additional sauce, and to my surprise i was given a small cupful of it. Thought there would be extra charges but there wasnt. tongue

There were quite alot of veggies and chicken this time i ordered. smile The veggies were nice and soft ( i like it this way ), and i finished all of it except the cabbage, which i didnt like (There was a mixture of carrots, long beans, broccoli and cabbage). Not sure whether request for additional veggies would cost more but you can try if you like to eat veggies. smile

The chicken was not too hard, though there was some fat here and there. The chicken skin was soggy as the teriyaki sauce had been poured over it, but it was still nice.

Overall, not bad, and of cos i would still come here to eat. The food is considered cheap for a 'fast food' Japanese place, and isnt as unhealthy as fast food since rice isnt deep fried like fries. smile One thing to note though, you may want to go earlier as the place starts to fill up once lunch time is approaching.

Free Toppingsss!!! Smile Sep 27, 2011
Categories : American | Café

Was on the way to Sentosa & before that, my cousin wanted to try out the yoghurt frm Yigloo at Vivo. It was my 1st time there & I really like the shop! The inside was decorated with mini tables & chairs where we could have our yoghurts. However, the chairs were more suitable for children, they were really small! tongue There was also not quite enough space when there are alot of customers in the shop.

The great thing i liked abt this yoghurt shop is that there is free toppingsss, which ranges frm fruit pieces to chocolates!!! Plus, it's self-service, so naturally for 'kiasu' Singaporeans, we tend to try to stack as much toppings as we can on the yoghurt. Hehe! tongue Prices are also quite reasonable, even though toppings are free for us to choose.

Will pratonize agn, as the concept of getting ur toppings urself is just too great to resist since i can choose wat i want, & the amount i want. smile
