Categories : Bak Kut Teh

Just to put it out there that this Bak Kut Teh is the herbal type. So this is the Malacca herbal type that is very nice.

Our family of 4 had:
* one pot of Bak Kut Teh for 2 pax with enoki mushroom and pieces of tau Kee - very nice soup though I found the pork ribs a tad tough

* sesame ginger chicken - we love the sauce and my girls ate almost all the chicken pieces, leaving us to taste the yummy dish from sucking the chicken bones only. So I did the next best thing which is to put the pork ribs inside the sauce to glaze it. Yummy!

* braised pig's small intestines - tasty pieces with no funny piggy smell

* crispy tau Kee - this is a wonderful dish with layers crispy tau Kee stacked together and glazed with their braised sauce. I've eaten at many Bak Kut Teh places and this is the first place I've seen this done this way! Champion! I wanted to order another but had to stop myself

* broccoli and mushrooms - simple dish of blanched broccoli and seasoned with sesame oil and soy sauce. Approved by my girls so you can trust.

We had all these with the must-have braised peanuts and you tiao, they were average but nice enough.

The meal is essentially very nice and the soup is refillable so that's great! Another great thing is the price tag. The whole meal costed us about $50 which is really value-for-money for a BKT meal. Will return for more!!!

Seafood Marinara Smile Sep 09, 2015

Categories : Italian | Restaurant | Pasta | Pizza

Came here for a 1-for-1 promotion and our party of 6 ordered various pastas.

We had Frutti de Mare, Vongola, Rigatoni Sausage, Cacciatore and the Bromia Pizza. My friends all raved about their selections, all said very very good!

I'll explain mine in more details... I'm a seafood marinara person. Default choice anywhere and theirs didn't disappoint. Fresh seafood and generous in amount too. Pasta was also cooked till al dente which has a slight Q in it. Some place cooked their pasta till it's too soft. The tomato base sauce is not from a can, and if it is, the processing that went into it is damn power then. I'll buy THAT type of can sauce any day! It's not tangy and full of the sweetness of the seafood that went into it.

A hearty portion too so a girl like me with a healthy appetite is smiling to my last mouthful.

Will return again to cash in the 1-for-1 deal soon!!! 😊

Coin Prata! Smile Jun 25, 2015

This place has the best Roti Prata in the world as it has so much flavour and taste.  Me and my friend's children also endorsed it as great, so it must be quite something.

We had the onion egg Prata which was generous of onions. It's also very tasty.

My girls had the coin Prata and I tried one too. It's crispy on the outside yet kinda soft on the inside. Very good combination indeed.

The curry gravy is the best! Spicy, tasty and full-bodied. Prata drowned in the curry is just awesome!!!

Definitely coming back again for more goodness!

My Fav Italian Haunt Smile May 26, 2014

Categories : Italian | Pasta | Kids-Friendly

I have been a quiet fan of Al Forno's for about 20 years already (seriously, I'm that old). I remember my fondest dates here with my then-boyfriend-now-hubby and the food is STILL as good!
Focaccia Blanca - we wanted a starter and its nice. Think it as a pizza base without the sauce and ingredients. It's fragrant and goes well with soup. It's also a hit with the kids.
Calamari - the squid rings are nicely battered and fried but I would have liked them seasoned more. Though the rings are tender and crispy, its a little bland for me.
Pizza Alforno - our first time ordering pizza. I love how moist the pizza tasted with the feta cheese and spinach toppings!
Pizza Con Carne - essentially a meaty pizza with ham slices and salami slices. Hub likes it enough.
Spaghetti Cartoccio - my all-time fav baked spaghetti with seafood. They serve it in a tin foil that you cut open to reveal its goodness. The seafood is fresh and generous in amount and the spaghetti cooked till al dente even when baked.
Al Forno remains my favourite Italian restaurant of homage.

This hor fun is really very very good. I dunno what they put in the sauce but it really makes the hor fun super smooth and flavourful!!
They serve hor fun

here with chicken meat, chicken leg, pork ribs and/or mushrooms. Personally I love their hor fun with chicken meat, thinly sliced. Another thing I love here is their chilli sauce. I would throw in a large spoon of chilli to mix in with the sauce. I can't explain it but something about the spicy sauce coating the hor fun that makes me salivate!!!!
You just have to taste it to understand me!
