Best Mexican...hands down! Smile Jun 08, 2014

Wanted to give hubby a treat and it will have to be Mexican delight. So the good reviews of El Rocho's brought us here.
We started with a Nacho Supreme and it's really quite awesome. When you use fresh ingredients and crispy nachos, the results can't be poor. The minced beef is lovely with its sauce and topped with lettuce, sour cream and fresh guacamole, and other fresh bits and bobs, I was fighting my hubby till the last piece.
Hub ordered a pork Burrito and it's nice and thick! Appearance alone not enough, taste is where it counts. And taste it has! The burrito is chock full of flavour, every bite is really a delight. I honestly had to stop myself from eating it all!
I went for the Mole con Pollo which is essentially grilled chicken coated with chocolate. I know the whole savory chocolate is a bit strange but it's not. Because the chocolate used is dark chocolate and it's not sweet. It's cooked with the spices so it's just really really tasty and slightly spicy sauce. My first bite was strange tasting but as I ate on, the whole flavour just grew on me! Awesome stuff!!
The meal was SO good that I mentally needed to wash it down with another round of nacho supreme!! But my weak stomach couldn't handle too much goodness. We'll just have to bring more people to eat more! It's officially our all time favourite Mexican restaurant locally!!!

Expensive but worth it! Smile Dec 13, 2011

Finally got our act together to check out this makan place. I have been told by 3 unrelated people that the food there is good but expensive.

So the 5 lovely ladies feasted on:
1) Sambal Kangkong - this was actually a very very good dish. So many Zichar stalls sell this but here, they use a lot of shrimp blend and the the result is very flavorful Sambal that beautifully accompanies the Kangkong.

2) Assam Fish Fillets - the fish fillets were fresh and meaty. The Assam sauce also packed enough punch in terms of sourness but not too much. Very good dish, wished they served with more gravy.

3) Ayam Bua Keluek - I am not a fan of this dish but those who love it said its good. I'll take their word for it.

4) Lamb Rendang - this dish is a winner! One leg of lamb that they cooked in Rendang style. No sauce but it's not dry. Best dish of the meal.

5) Chicalok Omelete - this is ok nice.

6) Otah - I love how they do their Otah. One shallow plate of it with fish chunks. Very homemade feel to it. Nice!

7) Bo Bo Cha Cha - super creamy coconut soup and loads of tapioca and yam bits. Very sinfully nice.

8) Chendol - Ok nice only.

9) Durian Pengat - I hate durian but my friends who love it agreed that this is the best dessert of the meal! I'll take their word for it.

Service was excellent and attentive. They dish out belachan Chilli whenever they see that our supply is low. Very nice staff who makes our meal experience so much more special! Will definitely come back again with family.

Crackling it is! Smile Jun 22, 2016

Had a lunch set here and it was delightful!

When your Makan stall name has the word 'crackling' in it, you better damn well mean it.

And they DO!! The set lunch included 2 types of pork, best way to describe is basically angmoh char Siew and angmoh seo Bak. I topped up $1 for angmoh roasted potatoes which were pretty good. A tad dry but that's style of cooking and not lack of cooking skills.

The star was their CRACKLING seo Bak! The skin really very crunchy and tasty so every bite an enjoyment! Next star was the char Siew. The taste is really nice and the sweet braising sauce was a lovely touch!!

Very very enjoyable and very tasty lunch indeed. This would be come to if I'm here again.

Been meaning to try this place for a while and since both good pal and I are on leave, we went down with our 1-for-1 promotion to satisfy our Italian cravings.

We ordered:
1) Clams in wine broth - we were greedy and hungry (often a deadly combi) and since the waiter highly recommended this starter, we happily took it. And it was a great recommendation! The clams were fresh and the broth was just off the charts!!

2) Carbonara - it's lovely in terms of flavour and it's cream is not runny at all. Love it! Thank goodness we were sharing this as we always feel too ger-lat to finish one whole plate by ourselves.

3) Seafood Marinara - I always judge this dish by how flavourful the tomato base sauce is. And this sauce passes with flying colours!! It's not tangy but full of Yumz! Perfect compliment with our Carbonara main

4) Molten Lava Cake - supposedly their must-order dessert and they bake it fresh upon ordering. Didn't disappoint. smile

5) Pistachio Tiramisu - another of their must-order dessert. Nice Tiramisu with a hint of pistachio. Wonderful!

Service staff is commendable as they are knowledgable and sincere. Pity it's not at a place with good parking, but it'll remain one of my fav Italian go-to place. smile

Family decided to try a new restaurant for Fathers' Day dinner and despite the poor reviews, we ordered:

1) Cold dish - interesting fried seafood thingie with a dob of Wasabi mayo on top. Nice!

2) Coffee ribs - good balance of coffee without the ribs being too bitter

3) Steam cod - like I always say, it's COD!! Need I say more? And the cod is fresh so the meat is sweet and the 'soup' awesome

4) Broccoli mushroom - this dish was nice too. Almost like wedding banquet standard

5) Old cucumber soup - well double-boiled soup! Can fight Soup Restaurant!

6) Salted Egg Prawn - this is also very well executed. Not too salty with the right amount of frying. Kudos to the chef!

7) Pan fried beef - tender pieces of beef in black pepper marinate, stir-fried to perfection

8) Fried waxed-meat rice - I can't explain it but it's not claypot rice as it's not mushy. Every grain is wonderfully coated with a nice layer wok-hei-ness. It's just awesome lah.

9) Fried Broad Noodle - they said it's the Malaysian style of fried noodle. It's got dark sauce and taste a little like Hokkien Mee but the type of noodle is the thick fat ones. Another winner dish!

Am very impressed as almost every dish was good. Will most definitely return to re-visit all those dishes. smile
