po lo buns and char siew pau Smile May 30, 2012

Love crystal jade bread & buns

char siew pau - love that the skin is tender and not too floury or thick, barbeque meat inside is not too fatty or sweet.
tastes best when steamed

po luo pao / pineapple bun for it resembles a pineapple. - love the crispy crust outside, crystal has 2 variants, one which char siew inside/ plain.. i love both , but sometimes I'll buy a plain one home, slab butter on it, stuff it with a canned pineapple slice & microwave it.. butter oozes out from the bread with the heat. a cheap alternative to a good tea snack! smile

best takoyaki balls Smile May 30, 2012
Categories : Japanese

takoyakis in a boat-shaped container looks really huge and appetising.
aromatic and flavourful, its crispy on the outside, moist and warm on the inside, its saltier and much more flavourful than the other takoyakis i have tried. flour is not too thick and the filling is generous
also love the seasoning and generous amounts of shaved fish flakes.
really worth the queue! smile

Categories : Taiwanese | Bubble Tea/ Tea

my favourite bubble tea stall for now is "shiny tea"
it has a range of teas from osmanthus, tie guan yin to pu erh.. there are also milk variants should you prefer something milky
their white pearls are different from other bubble tea stalls around. its smaller and tadpole like and goes really well with non-milk teas.
shiny tea is from taiwan and its claimed that their bubble tea is approved by the original make of bubble pearls.

tried their osmanthus tie guan yin tea with 20% sugar and white pearls - really refreshing and smooth
had a free upsize with their current promotion
love it! smile

beef bulgoli OK May 30, 2012
Categories : Korean | Steamboat/Hot Pot

decided to try this new seoul garden hot pot concept
instead of having bbq, this place serves korean dishes in stone pots
ordered the student set meal of beef bulgoli - which consists of marinated barbecued beef, bean sprouts, kim chi and vegetables.
overall its disappointing - meat slices and ingredients were little while a lot of rice was given. looks totally different from the picture in the menu
barbecued meat is a bit dry and hard , kim chi normal & bean sprouts limp
not at all authentic,

at least staff is friendly and were quick to refill water - however they often messes with customers' order, giving us a clam soup rather than our beef bulgoli..

good takeaway dim sum Smile May 30, 2012
Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Dim Sum

tiong bahru pau - from its name you can guess that its famous for its pau
char siew pau especially is really good - tasty - and meat is chewy and pau skin tender
pork pastry - flavour is okay, pastry a little too thich
egg tart - normal, have tried better ones at other places
my favourite is their siew mai, prawn is really huge, the whole thing is really moist and chewy, and as you chew, the meat juices oozes out from within.
its so popular there is normally always a queue at their stall, but good thing is that they work fast without being rude
