Choupinette  Smile Oct 30, 2011

we went to one of our favourite cafes, Choupinette, for an early dinner. It's along Bukit Timah Road
We've been there for brunch before, for their incredible all-day breakfasts but more on those some other time
On this visit we had a light dinner
smoked salmon caesar salad-The salad had very generous portions of smoked salmon, which was wonderfully flavoured and not too salty.
This place also serves one of the best flat whites
Most coffee joints in Singapore serve lattes, which have more milk than espresso, so imagine our delight at finally finding good strong flat whites at Choupinette.
The place is a bit cramped though and the freaking cushions on the chairs keep sliding off.

Is a Japanese restaurant serving Sumiyaki
We ordered
beef tenderloin-the tenderloin is unsurpassed. It comes in cubes, and we had it with the Tare marinade, which was a soy-based Yakiniku sauce. A few turns of the beef cubes on the hot grill is all it takes. The outside is seared and the inside is still so tender you could probably cut it with your chopsticks.
The wagyu beef was seasoned with the Shio marinade, which was simply salt and pepper. The thing about the wagyu is, it’s slightly tough to bite into at first but once you do, the marbled bits of fat in the meat literally make it melt in your mouth as you chew.
This is definitely a place I’ll be frequenting whenever I’m in a particularly carnivorous mood.

I had a lunch here with my colleagues
the must-try dishes are Ayam Bali – grilled chicken thigh, conveniently deboned and coated with a sweet dark sauce. This is one of their house specialties, for good reason. The chicken is tender, the sauce is flavourful and the grilled and slightly charred edges are lovely.
It’s absolutely packed at lunchtime and reservations are essential, especially for large groups

We finally tried this place for lunch
Me and my wife shared a regular fish and chips, and a cheesy sausage with mashed potato. For the fish and chips, you have an option of 2 sauces – salt and vinegar, and mayonnaise and ketchup. Since we wanted an authentic British fish and chip experience, we opted for the salt and vinegar. The fish is cut into 12 pieces, with each little piece battered and fried separately
The fish was liberally doused with malt vinegar, and there was a substantial amount of fish
The cheesy sausage was a whole sausage on a stick, and the mashed potato was at the base of the cup, so that you could dunk the sausage into the mash as you ate. The sausage was good, but I found the mashed potatoes to be slightly too salty and processed-tasting

After hearing so much about this place ,We decided to come here for a try
This place doesn’t accept reservations – you have to get there the moment they open if you want to secure a table without waiting in line
The noodles -springy and have a great texture and bite to them. I absolutely hate mushy noodles so these were perfect for me.
Soup base-It pretty oily but it was thick and hearty
Expect long queues if you don’t get there within 15 mins of when it opens
