Landed on Changi Aiport Terminal 2 as i came back singapore from BKK trip. Kop Khun ka to all openricers smile
Quite shock to have found a peranakan cafe outlet here when i was heading home.

Since it has been weeks since i last tried Singapore food, buying a piece of kueh to eat seem very ideal.
And here you see below is the kueh lapis. A type of traditional kueh which i have been eating since young.

Dont belittle this kueh, behind it - the making process was a tough one, as it required lots of time and effort to make the thousand layers. Yum yum..... I would always eat it by section just like how i eat a ‘九层糕 (Jiu Cheng Gao)’

I bought this kueh lapis at the cost of $1.90 not cheap i would say. But the food did match the value as it is not too oily and as i seperated the layers it was a smooth tear smile.

Would like to try it again but not frequently.

My cousin from overseas just came back to singapore and since he has longheard about the fanciful cafes located around Singapore. I decided to bought him and the rest of our siblings to stranger's reunion after reading reviews from other openricers smile ( thanks!)

We ordered quite an amount of food which bills came up to $158.
Recommended drinks like 'Magic' , 'Latte', 'Piccolo Latte' and 'Cappuccino'.
And also seem most of the people recommended to try the waffles. we have ordered almost all the buttermilk waffles except for waffles with strawberry maceration and ice cream to try out.

Under the buttermilk waffles there are:

(1)- with artisan greek yogurt and fresh fruit, $11.50
(2)- with vanilla ice cream and fresh fruit, $11.50
(3)- with maple syrup and fresh fruit, $11

My apology that not all waffles photos are here as all of us were simply gluttons by the time we have our seats and food being served to us. so only managed to snap a few photos mad

The waffles tasted the same for all, what's makes it different is the combination with different ingredient such as yogurt, maple syrup and ice-cream. After trying all four, i would feel that the one with ice cream is the best (2). Follow by (1) and (3).

For (1), as the waffles is not crispy but rather soft, when it goes with the liquid form yogurt, the whole mouth of waffles just turned out to be too liquefy inside and left no chance for chewing of biting ( kind of like swallowing the mouth is better than biting) hmm, the process is like biting one-mouth and the next mouth you know, you will need to swallow down fast.

As for the waffles with maple syrup (3), sadly to say that the maple syrup is just too much for the waffle. When taste, I could only feel the maple syrup taste with sweetness came overwhelming inside my mouth. Need to drink a couple cups of water just by eating probably 1/8 of it. Maybe it would be better if the maple syrup weren't that much amount. But anyway, if you are a sweet person maybe you would like it ;) cause personally i prefer more neutral flavour then too extreme on the taste.

The drinks (thou sadly is not made by the Ryan ) still presented it to us well and pretty lol. Coffee lovers would love it as it taste very coffee (bitterness taste) cause even the cappuccino also tasted bitter when first tried. Really like how the way they made their coffees. Not too sweet, but if you find it too bitter you can also add some sugar, just request the cute little sugar jar ( as seen in the image above) from those good-looking and friendly staffs.

Apart from the coffees and waffles, we have also ordered the 'truffle fries with truffle aioli and parmesan cheese' is it a big bowl of fries but doesnt came cheap as it cost $12.90. The fries is addictive as we just keep on eat and eat non-stop >-< a must order i would say, if you like fries.

Above all, it is a nice experience to dine at Strangers' Reunion. It is a cozy place to hang out with friends, and also a hiding place to laze and read your favourite books. Would definitely be back again ! and perhaps maybe make some friends with the 'strangers'. haha.

Laduree - the atas macaroon Smile Aug 13, 2013

Macarons from Laduree!

Though I am a bit late to comment about the macaron craze from Laduree stores but I still hope my comments can benefits other readers out there smile

Knowing that I am a fan of dessert, my sister bought me macarons from Laduree. Heard from her that there are 2 Laduree stores at Takashimaya and is it best to go to the main store rather then the take-away store since it has lesser queue (not sure now if it still have queue) but anyway, I got to try the blackcurrant, bergamot and coffee.

Among these three, I personally prefer the coffee macaron as it tastes good as though as you are drinking a coffee. The bergamot is lemon it tasted well too with a bit of sour yet sweet lemon taste. Lastly, the macaroon of blackcurrant, perhaps blackcurrant is quite a normal flavour, I will not try blackcurrant macaron the next time since they are so many other flavours waiting to be try!

My favourite tze char stall Smile Aug 13, 2013

I always like to patronize this tze char stall with my family as the food is sumptuous! But a side note - do ask them for less oil and salt as sometimes when they have a crowd, our food can get too oily, if not too salty mad

Therefore, if you are a health conscious person you may want to let the person know when taking down your order. I forgot what is the name of the vegetable as it was ordered by my dad, but I can comment that their vegetables is a must try due to its crunchiness and not vegetable is not too cooked till it became soft.

The crispy skin chicken as recommended by the staff, tastes good as well, as the skin is crispy enough and goes well with the sauce it came with - can eat a lot of rice just by ordering the chicken dish itself.

Lastly, the egg, as you can see and exactly what you are seeing, the egg is as nice as how its look ! So eggy! With outside hard and crispy at the sides and soft in the inside, the egg just tasted awesomely nice. I would say the feeling of how one eat pouched egg, since that is the western kind of feeling. When you eat this egg, you will experiences the Chinese style of feeling. so yum yum!

The pricing of these dishes are reasonable. The vegetables were below $10 and meat were less than $15. Thus the meal itself cost less than $30 for 3 persons. Which I think is worthwhile for the taste and tze char eating experiences.

菜谱 Menu

If anyone of you are staying around north area and would like to have a family day out e.g. On a Sunday to dine, I would strongly recommend you guys to try MAYIM which is located at Northpoint Shopping Centre.

Initially, I have this stereotype thinking that restaurant in a mall would be expensive and standard would be so-so. But Mayim changed this concept of mine, not only that i find the pricing is reasonable since its main dishes is usually below < $10, the food is tasty as well! It's so value-for-money, it amazed me!

One look at the menu, you will find a wide range of variety being offered, as they have noodles such as Ramen, Wanton Mee, White Rice, Fried Rice, Porridge, and 2 pages of dim sum to spoil the foodie for choices!

Speaking of it, I am hungry again! As I am dining with my parents, my dad decided to order something heavy like the fried rice as seen above and Hor Fun to be shared and eat among us.

The must ordered i would say is the KIMCHI! Especially those kimchi lovers out there. You must try their chinese-style of kimchi ! The combination of the cabbage and sweet and spicy sauce is simply perfect. We can go on and on by simply eating the kimchi alone. Since the kimchi is FREE-FLOW and count by 50cents per head. Why not!?

So friends, next time when you past by Northpoint and would like to find a restaurant to go. I strongly recommend Mayim to you smile
