Chicken Ban Mian

Chicken Ban Mian

Whenever I eat ban mian, I normally have it with pork. This time, I decided to try it out with chicken and it was as good as the one with pork. As I was rushing for time, I had it taken away (separately packed soup and noodles).

The ban mian was smooth yet firm in texture. The ingredients were simple; sliced chicken nicely seasoned, plenty of cai xin, ikan bilis and an egg. It went well with the soup, which was hearty, not too salty, albeit on the sweet side. This dish was also accompanied with fried shallots, chilli sauce and red cut chillies.

Starting from $3, there is a wide variety of noodles/vermicelli you can choose to have. You can either have it soup base or dry. Besides ban mian, this stall also sells hong zhao chicken, dumpling and fried dumpling (will try it one of these days)....

Fabulous Dark Devotion

Fabulous Dark Devotion

Simply love this fabulous dessert and its presentation.... this warm dark chocolate cake is moist yet soft, with chocolate lava oozing out smoothly, gently, temptingly. It is not too chocolatey, best to top with vanilla ice cream (the warmness from the cake and the cold ice cream is a heaven match combination, it's like melt in your mouth kind of feeling, yummy), its sweetness is well complemented with summer berries, and mint leaves. The delicate orange sesame tuile is lightweight, dry, crisp, comes in a dizzying array and delectable smile

Tonkatsu Bento Smile Sep 26, 2011

Tonkatsu Bento

Tonkatsu Bento

A friend of mine has been asking me to try the tonkatsu bento if ever i visited Sugisawa and I did so finally tonight! The restaurant owner/chef is a Japanese and you can tell the grade of a Japanese restaurant by the numbers of Japanese who patronise. This place is full of Japanese.

The bento set consists of a breaded, deep-fried pork cutlet, garnished with shredded cabbage, tuna & salmon sashimi, boiled vegetables & prawn, as well as miso soup, rice and a bit of spicy yellow karashi (Japanese mustard). It also consists of radish and yellow daikon pickles (sorry, i ate them all before picture was taken tongue)

I loved the freshness of tuna and salmon sashimi, oiishi smile The poached prawn was big and juicy smileThe boiled vegetables (carrot, bamboo shoot, yam onden, egg, fishcake) were another favourite of mine smile oh yes, the main dish - tonkatsu was nicely fried, crisp on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside... you can add some tonkatsu sauce to it but personally, i prefer not to have it. The miso soup was very flavourful and not too salty (unlike most) smile

Peperoni Pizzeria (Binjal Park) is a nice place to get together and chill out with your loved ones, family, and friends. It's al fresco causal dining and retro indoor decor , coupled with friendly staff attract many locals and expats. Went with a group of friends and here're what we ate, some were shared and some individually.

Chicken Wings/drumlets ($8)
Nicely lined in a basket with a mayo dip. It's marination was sightly spicy and different from the usual type. It's fresh from fryer (piping hot) and it didnt had a rancid taste. smile

Calamari fritti deep fried squid rings: lemon mayo & tomato sauce ($14)
This dish was so-so. It tasted normal, nothing fantastic sad

Linguine Vongole clams in white wine sauce ($22)
One good thing about this place is that you're allowed to choose/change your choice of pasta. The portion was reasonable and the clams were nicely cooked. I loved the white wine sauce particularly... the taste was great and you could actually drink it! smile

They have a good selection of pizzas which are varied in terms of their toppings. We decided to give the famous, family-sized pizza (humongous 21inch at $50) a miss as we would like to try as many choices as possible. You can also split the pizza into two separate choice of toppings on each side. The crust was thin and crispy.

Shared 4 Large (12 inch) Pizzas ($23 each)
4 formaggi (Mozza, taleggio, scamorza and gorgonzola) / pancetta ham / Prosciutto crudo di parma / Diavola (pepperoni)

The 4 formaggi tasted moist and chessy smile Pancetta ham pizza is a must to try. The combination of pancetta, tomato dice, mozarella and a soft egg was flavourful and delicious. smile Generous layers of prosciutto topped with garnishing of rocket leaves is another must try pizza.smile Pepperoni pizza was a slight disappointment. Though slices of pepperoni was baked to a slight crisp and spreaded onto the tomato based crust, yet it didnt give you the yummy feeling. sad

Pepperoni Pizzeria is a great place to go. Food is reasonably priced and good.

Raw Beef Carpaccio

Raw Beef Carpaccio

Went to Limoncello for a dinner with my hubby yesterday. we liked the causal dining atmosphere and were happy with their friendly and prompt service. smile

We had a raw beef carpaccio ($16.50) as starter. This thinly sliced beef tenderloin was so fresh and juicy, drowsed with fresh olive oil, that it was best to be eaten with fresh rocket and sharved parmesan. smile

We also shared a rucola e prosciutto di parma pizza ($27.50) as parts of our main course. This 13inch thin crusted pizza was huge, toppled with generous layers of parma ham, mozzrella, cherry tomotoes, fresh rocket and parmesan. what i liked most was the parma ham wasnt too salty, just rightly marinated. smile

Next we had a hand made amalfi coast pasta with mixed seafood ($21.50). The hand made pasta reminded me of those hand made ban mian 's texture. I tasted not too bad (not the usual pasta taste), But unfortunately, this dish had a very strong fishy smell (could smell it when it was served to us) and the prawn wasn't fresh.sad

Last but not least, though our bellies were about to burst, yet we wouldn't want to go without trying their desserts. So, we shared a lava cake ($9). One of the best I had tried. It's not too sweet like most desserts are, just the right amount of chocolatey-ness, warm molten chocolate was runny and oozing out of it. Yummy smile

We each had a cup of regular coffee ($4.50 each) and i must say, they served good, strong coffee. smile

We spent about $83.50 for our dinner.
