Crystal Jade has always been one of my favourite Chinese restaurants to dine at! I love the unique ambience of this place whereby the restaurant is in an oval like shape. Seating is vast and it overlooks the pretty airport if you decide to sit in the corners smile Staff are always secluded not too far from customers who are seated while a few staff are located at the entrance to greet you with a warm smile. No reservations are needed during off peak hours. The restaurant does get pretty busy during dinner time hence reservations are a must especially if one is coming in a big group! The staff holds no biasness towards non Chinese customers and are as friendly and accommodating to one's needs. Being a vegetarian, the only dish available to me was the vegetarian noodle soup which I have no quams about as it tastes delicious all the same. However, I wanted to get afew sides this time round to go with my yummy main dish. I asked the staff for recommendations on what could be *turned into a vegetarian dish* and she has happy to be of assistance. First off, she asked if I preffered eggs. After I had declined, she then went on to make some very helpful recommendations.
Braised Tofu

Braised Tofu

Braised Tofu which technically was a non vegetarian dish was made vegetarian for me. Waiting time was approximately 10-15minutes during which staff brings forward a *pickle snack* or *a variety of nuts* to keep one's mouth occupied accompanied by beverages of your choice. I had opted for Iced Green Tea which was opened by staff at my table and poured into a glass with ice.

Our dishes arrived soon enough and to my astonishment the sauce that was accompanied with the braised tofu was absolutely delicious. I was very impressed that they were able to still make the dish taste so good! Other ingredients such as black fungus, carrots, mushrooms, beancurd skin and broccoli was also added. I fell in love immediately and will definitely order this again! 10/10
Vegetarian Noodle Soup

Vegetarian Noodle Soup

My main course tasted similar to a peanut broth which was very refreshing. The dish included lao mian along with yummy vegetables such as cabbage, black fungus, a few mock meats, beancurd, carrots and mushrooms. The dish was very filling on its own and tasted even better with a little soya sauce. I am a huge fann of soya sauce and sambal chili and restaurants that have good soy sauce would definitely have a plus point! You would be happy to hear that crystal jade did not disappoint me on this aspect. The vegetables were perfect and the noodles were not too soggy. All the dishes were also served to us pipping hot and in record time. 9/10
Spinach & minced garlic

Spinach & minced garlic

Last but not least, the sauted spinach with garlic tasted just as incredible. The veggies were cooked to the right amount and tasted very fresh. The stalks were crunchy too! Serving size was reasonable and was fit for sharing between 2-3 individuals.

I enjoyed my dining experience at Crystal Jade and I am very pleased with the service, right till the very end when they cleared our plates, re-filled our glass of water and presented us with our bill when we asked for it. Service was great! and I do wish more restaurants had such efficient staff! well done smile

Chasing my blue's away Smile Feb 04, 2013

Han's at this outlet was tucked in a corner within changi citypoint. It overlooked a view of the outdoors and lush greenery. I love this outlet since it's almost practically hidden! Meaning to say, it's never crowded. Not even at dinner time during weekdays/weekends which is surprising seeing that the rest of the f&b outlets are often swamped with hungry people! The décor is simple yet homely and staff are very attentive towards customers. I was handed a manu as soon as I walked in to scout for seats with my boyfriend this evening.

I was looking for something light and went for the chocolate truffle. All the desserts were showcased in the individual see-through glass show case which can be seen when you enter the outlet. They serve a variety of desserts, mostly slices of cake/pies and tarts. The desserts are also wrapped around with plastic to secure their shape. Han's also caters to yummy Asian and western main courses and is known to be a family restaurant that has something for everyone (kids and vegetarians included!). Payment has to be made upon order at the cashier (self service). However, if your orders take awhile they would be happy to bring it to you!

The yummy all chocolate cake was simple delicious. With a cocoa chocolate sponge and rich creamy layers of chocolate mousse, it was every chocoholic's dream. The chocolate of course was of good quality (no cheap stuff here!). There was also a thin additional layer of glazed chocolate at the top of the cake with a cute little chocolate filled ball at the top which made it look so charming! Taste was compromised in no way and this was one of the best chocolate truffle cakes I have tasted! I rate this cake 9.5/10! lol
Fresh orange juice

I also ordered a glass of orange juice to flush that yummy delicious slice of cake down! To my surprise, the juice tasted so fresh! It tasted naturally sweet and was in no way overpowering or diluted (even with all that ice) 8/10. Overall, the meal was technically perfect. This is probably one of the nicest ways to chase your pre Monday blue's away without breaking that piggy bank of course!

The best of thai Smile Feb 03, 2013

The plates were already neatly layed on when we were ushered to our seats. The cutlery was also clean which gave us a good impression of the restaurant. There was also a spectacular view overlooking Katong from our seats. It was one of the best places to people watch and enjoy great food at the same time.

Service staff at this restaurant were friendly and very efficient. Our food did not take long to arrive and they very attentive when it came to special requests (such as less chili/more chili/no onions etc) which made me feel very valued as a patronizing customer. Cold water/warm water was available free of charge upon request along with chili with soya sauce; one of my favorite counterparts when it comes to chinese/thai cuisine. We could also choose our own seats when the restaurant was not swamped with people (which is pretty much always the case). This is one of the quite/laid back outlets in comparison to the rest of the Bali Thai restaurants.
yummy food!

yummy food!

Dish 1: Kang Kong with chili. A simple yet flavorful dish. The kang kong was not over or under cooked and it's stalks retained their crispyness. I loved the outburst of spicy chili padi's which could be found in the midst of the dish. Very well done and not a tad oily. Perfect! 10/10

Dish 2: Hot Plate Black pepper Tofu (can be ordered with or without egg)

I chose without egg of course as I was not really a fann. I loved the delicious black pepper gravy and the idea that the dish came pipping hot to us (the way it is supposed to). There was yummy cubes of tofu along with other sauted vegetables like mushrooms, peppers, cauliflowers, broccoli and carrots! The combination was mouth watering and the vegetables tasted naturally sweet and fresh! 8/10

Dish 3: Yellow Thai Curry

This is probably one of the nicest curries I have ever tasted. The gravy is a creamy base filled with yummy vegetables which were similar to the Hot plate Tofu dish. There was also a tinge of ginger which gave it that extra burst of flavor. This dish is highly recommended for its detectable goodness 10/10

Our food was accompanied by a serving of white rice charged at $2.50 per person if I'm not wrong. However, one could always get another helping for free smile

Note: I love how Bali Thai makes vegetarians feel at home with their own individual menu. There is a vast variety of dishes available and the pricing is not too outrageous. In fact, its worth it seeing that the food is up to standard. I also like the idea that the dishes are so wholesome due to the variety of vegetables added to one dish. There is never a dull moment at bali thai! They also have a couple of fun drinks on the menu to compliment the dishes.

I will be sure to visit again!

Indian bites Smile Feb 02, 2013

The first picture illustrates a typical south indian meal that the restaurant serves. I love the little cute containers each dish comes in. It's great for first timers due to the vast variety. The main dish is white rice of course. From the left was a vagetable curry, sambar (which is commonly served with other rice items), dahl (usually serviced with chapati or prats), a spicy curry, payasam (a sweet indian dessert) and plain yoghurt (to ease the spiciness) There were 2 dry vegetables served - cabbage and mock mutton (soybean) - which is my favourite dish here! The meal is complimented with vadai (an indian snack) and papadam (crispy rice crackers). For the price paid, I must say it was worth it as it was a complete meal. The dishes were vast and very tasty. I would also like to add that the dishes were not overly spicy which is perfect for other races to indulge in since they were mild 8/10

This was also my first time trying the mee goreng here (I opted for the dish to come without onions) which were prepared for me upon request. The serving size was just nice. The noodles were well fried with spinach and bean sprouts in them. There was a strong wok hei flavor which I always scout for when eating such dishes. On the side, a slice of beancurd and cucumbers with ketchup was served. 8/10

This was a side to go with our food and the picture says it all. Cubes of paneer marinated in yummy spicy, creamy grave. The paneer was cooked for the right amount. It tasted really good and the tinge of tomato added more flavour to the dish. Finally it was sprinkled with coriander which gave it perfection. 9/10

Going Ga-Ga for Gelato's! Smile Jan 26, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Italian | Ice Cream and Gelato

Who does not love ice cream? Fattening as it may be, most of us have endless cravings for ice cream. Sometimes, we even combat getting over break up's or stress through ice cream. Gelato was probably the next best thing apart from ice cream. Being a fat free indulgence that comes in a variety of flavours is pure genius. One of other best gelato's I have ever had was from my new found favourite at change airport - Gelateria Italia. Staff are very welcoming and invite individuals to have a try at their flavours before making the purchase.

Staff here are very patient and would not shun you even if you wanted to try 2-3 flavours before purchase. There are lots of flavours to choose from. From the classics like chocolate, vanilla, chocolate chip to extravagant ones such as Bailey's (which was amazing) and blueberry yoghurt (which is very refreshing). The bailey's had a nice aroma and was very light yet satisfying to any alcoholic's craving (without the guilt).

The blueberry yoghurt gelato had that sweet-sour taste and was not too sweet. The blueberries in the yoghurt complimented it well.

My boyfriend got the Ferrero rocher gelato's in normal and in dark. I decided to try some of it and was amazed to find that the gelato had actual Ferrero rocher bits in it which gave it that actual crunch.

The sizes of the cups were in small, medium or large.
