pretty cupcakes OK Dec 18, 2011

pretty cupcakes

pretty cupcakes

Had a chance to talk to Dan, and he gave me a red velvet cupcake to taste - it was pretty good, and I ended up buying 3 to taste. My favourite is still the red velvet cupcake, with the delicate cream cheese frosting on top of a chocolate base.

However, it's a little too small for $3 a pop. On the other hand, this means you can eat more of other flavours without getting too full. It's not one of the best cupcakes around, but it's definitely a cut above the regular chains.

black pepper chicken pie

black pepper chicken pie

I was hooked from the moment I tried the pies. Their black pepper pie is, for lack of abetter description, to die for. The savoury black pepper chicken bits together with chunks of hard boiled eggs and potatoes blew my mind away. It is THAT tasty, and makes for a filling lunch for less than $5.

Have yet to try their signature crab bee hoon though.

The cafe is opened by two fans of Mayday, but they chose not to make it exclusively Mayday themed, but have instead used the cafe to promote local arts and music. The cafe is cosy enough for you to chill there the entire day, but of course, it doesn't hurt that the food is good too!
Crazy wings!

Crazy wings!

This is a must for me every visit. I love how the sauce (special secret blend okay!) complements the wings so well.
Homemade Iced Lemon Tea

Homemade Iced Lemon Tea

The iced lemon tea is lovingly home made and not from the syrups you get from elsewhere.

If you haven't been here before, make a trip down someday! You'll be charmed, like how I was.

For $8.90, you get access to the salad bar that lets you pile all you can on a 30 cm plate. There are about 30 options ranging from salads, mashed potatoes, onion rings, wedges to coleslaw and corn. It even comes with a bowl of soup, also all-you-can-fill. Just as I thought there was no more food to be piled onto the plate without it toppling over, I turn around and see a bunch of boys with a huge food pyramid. Interesting.

They also allow for access to the salad bar for an additional $3.90 with every main course ordered. I tried the roasted half-chicken but it wasn't very impressive.

It makes for a really affordable meal if a group of 2 or 3 share this platter.

Try the mee siam! Smile Dec 18, 2011

Categories : Singaporean | Coffeeshop

My favourite dish from Toastbox is undoubtedly the mee siam. It's not cooked in the typical way with a clear broth. Instead, the gravy is thicker and milkier than normal. It's easy to finish the whole dish in a matter of minutes!

The curry chicken is a little expensive, but satisfies cravings pretty well. I like that they offer barley water together with their sets to make the meal slightly healthier.
