Pizza and more! Smile Nov 30, 2011

By the time I remembered to take a photo, the pizza was almost gone. That's how good it was. We ordered the supreme and the pepperoni supreme -- both were equally the same thing, except that one had more pepperoni than the other. However, both were very good. The crust was thin and crispy, just the way I like it, and served piping hot.

It wasn't dinner time yet when we dropped by, so service was quite fast. The staff was also very accommodating, helping us and the two kids get settled.

I was craving for something from home so I decided to go to Lutong Pinoy. Luckily, the queue was not so bad as well. For $6 (including $0,50 for takeaway), I got plain rice with longganisa and a slice of embotido. I was disappointed though, as the longganisa was dry and the embotido tasted like ground meat. They weren’t as flavorful as I expected and remembered from back home. In fact, there was nothing memorable with the meal. Maybe it was because these were leftovers from breakfast?

Well, my craving was satisfied but my taste buds weren’t.

Lunch at Qiji Smile Nov 01, 2011

Categories : Hawker Centre | Restaurant

Looking for something quick, affordable but satisfying for lunch? Head on to Qiji, a family-run restaurant with branches all over the island. Try out their signature dish, the popiah. Made of turnip, jicama, bean sprouts, lettuce leaves, tofu, chopped peanuts and (optional) chili, the dish is very tasty and quite filling. Price per roll is $2, with prawns is $2.40.

If noodles are more to your liking, try their laksa, which is quite good. It’s a combination of white noodles with tofu, hardboiled egg and cockles, in spicy coconut milk. You can also add on prawns for an additional fee. There’s also mee siam and mee rebus, both delicious. Each costs from $3.50 to $5.

The nasi lemak is also quite filling. You can chose between three different sets: ikan bilis, otah, egg or egg omelet, fish fillet, chicken or chicken wing. Set price ranges from $3.50 to $4.50.

The service is fast and efficient, plus the staff helps you find a table. Just be sure to come by early, as the place is quite popular with the lunch crowd.

Banana Split treat Smile Nov 01, 2011   (Related Review)

If you’re eating at Swensen’s, make sure to leave room in your tummy for their yummy desserts.Opt for the banana split, if you're in the mood for something familiar and traditional. It's got the usual -- three kinds of ice cream (chocolate, vanilla, strawberry) topped with chocolate fudge, pineapple, fresh banana slices and nuts. The serving is big enough for 2, and is quite a delicious end to a meal.

How can you say no to a scoop of traditional vanilla ice cream on a blondie (a light-colored version of the brownie)? Swensen’s jazzes it up by serving it on a sizzling plate. Upon serving, the waiter pours maple butter syrup over it and showers it with chopped up almonds, peanuts and pistachios. Watch your tongue though, as the brownie is quite hot.

Awesome dessert, and goes really well with coffee.
