Oh-so-awesome salad! Smile Mar 22, 2014

Ever since I saw that the cafe is opened, I really wanted to try it and here I am! Came here on a saturday afternoon and was pleased it was not crowded. And seriously, this will not be the last visit to this awesome cafe!

With the number of specialty cafe places coming up, its hard to discern who's good and who is serving a rip off your pockets for eggs. I super happy to have found my awesome cafe, because food was honest, tasty and comes at superbly reasonable prices!

I had the "my awesome salad".. man.. the quality of the food is great! The $15 salad came with greens, tomatoes, fat slices of smoked salon, thinly sliced chicken breast, duck rillettes(which i omitted) and avocados. This is THE DISH if you are looking for some healthy food with good quality protein and fats. I love it! Everything just tasted so clean yet tasty on its own lightly drizzled with olive oil with no overwhelming sauces to kill the freshness of the ingredients.

Coffee was good as well, though it lacked some kick somewhat.

My dining partner had scrambled eggs with salmon which was relatively cheap at $6,50, but the dish looked quite disappointingly 'home-made', with no greens and literally scrambled eggs which were a little too watery and bare slices of smoked salmon.

Another plus - staff are super friendly!

Bosses is my foolproof place to go to when i want good quality dimsum at affordable prices. Each time, Im amazed at the rpice and how filling the dishes are! Almost everytime i eat it i order the same few dishes but i try to order 1 or 2 different ones to try. This time round, other than the usual signature stuff that I order like the egg lava bun and xiao long bao, I tried something different which was surprisingly good!

Firstly, lets talk about the 'usual' dishes. The xiaolongbao is Definitely something i order each time because it just feels incomplete to not order xiaolongbao. I would say the xiaolongbao here is not bad, tasty broth and all, but I think i prefer the one from dingtaifung. Where it lose out is the skin texture, which is not thin enough.

The egg lava bun is something I will never fail to order.. and I think bosses ranks in my top 3 of egg lava bun in Singapore because I like the saltiness of the egg yolk in it. The texture of the bun is very soft as well.. I like to just bite it a little and slurp the watery yolk in it. Slurps! This time i went, my boyfriend and I have' progressed' to ordering one basket each.. that shows how much we love it!

The Siewmai here is a must-do if you love siewmai. Beware though because they are really huge! Just look at the picture.. and the big succulent prawn on top of them just makes it so filling. I think its very worth the price and I like the fact that the meat in it is not too fatty.

The only disappointment this time round came from the har gow. It came in 3 different colours -white, black and yellow.. but they all tasted the same..

The star of today's entry is this!!The chilli crab tart. When I saw it on the menu, i was rather skeptical.. but wah.. the chilli crab filling is wonderful - fragrant, just right spicy and full of flavour! it even went very well with thr tart crust! I only wished I had the stomach space to eat more of this..

Remember to go on mon-sat between 230 to 5pm for 30% discount and eat to your heart's content!

I came here to carbo-load for the next day's marathon and was definitely not disappointed at all! Have been on a dimsum spree for awhile and was keen to try the selections here as i had eaten once a few years back n had very good memory of their quality of food. Theres a 30% discount from 230 to 5 pm so do come during this hour to save $$! Given this, i would say its probably a little overpriced if not for the discount. Lets take a peek at whats good and worth your calories. =)
crispy fish skin starter

crispy fish skin starter

We were greeted with this plate of crispy fish skin as soon as we sat down. Im dun usually eat fish skin at all(to the extent of tearing them out from fish soup) but how i have devoured these! It was very crispy and lightly salted.. almost couldnt stop if not for the limited serving. THe thing with this is that it was included as a part of the bill at $4 and wasnt told to u till u see the bill. So thumbs down for that, but we almost didnt mind because of how yummy it was.
xiaolongbao

xiaolongbao

No dim sum will be complete without xiaolongbao. We were glad that it was served piping hot with steam and they were huge and full of soup! the broth was very tasty and even angmokia could tell me its a stock that has been boiled for long. He is becoming quite an expert in xiaolongbaos. Lol. My only gripe is skin is still a little thick for my liking and too much stock means the bao is heavy and i even broke one of them.
mango salad prawn

mango salad prawn

The outer layer of the mango salad prawn was crispy and the mango provided a nice zesty taste to the other wise oily crust. I liked it but found it abit oily in the aftertaste.
scallop yam ring

scallop yam ring

We wanted to order either this scallop yam ring or the mango salad prawn fritters but took both in the end. This was super filling and i didnt remember reading it was surrounded by a mini yam ring. Very filling and because it was all fried u cant really taste the freshness of the scallop. Unique dish to try but you can save your calories on this.
wagyu beef panfried bun

wagyu beef panfried bun

This was smt i didnt eat because i dont eat beef but angmokia said it was so-so only. Beef was abit too pepperish for him and obviously takes up too much calories for one person.
egg lava bun

egg lava bun

The highlight of all my dimsum eats--Egg custard lava bun! These came in very fluffy orange buns which reminded me abit of the ''ji dan kueh" Again it was more sweet than salty so it still doesnt beat my favourite till date. I saw that they had the yam lava and chocolate lava smt in their menu so it could be worth trying but i was already too full.

Thumbs up for the service as well as they were prompt and one of the waitress/manager was asking us feedback on the items. Will definitely go back again!!

Angmokia and I are big fans of Restaurant week as it enables us to try out new places which serves quality food without burning a hole in our pockets. the last restaurant week happened on the week of our 2 year anniversary so i thought it could be a good idea to pick a nice restaurant. As usual all teh kiasu people have booked many of the places so I had a lower expectation of Oenotheque and reading that it is a wine place I had thought it probably didnt put so much focus on food but i was wrong!!

Food was surprisingly good and very high quality and of course angmokia was super happy that the manager kept our bread basket filled. The service is really really wonderful i must add-- a great place to bring a date too!
Ok so the menu for the week is showed in the picture, not much choices so we basically ordered different things for us to be able to try, which means we savoured the whole menu! lol.

Starter- Grilled baby Octopus
Cold crab stuffed omelette

Im not a big fan of octopus but i can tell u this dish probably left the deepest impression! The chargrilled octopus is so jiucy and succulent and super duper tasty I felt it could be a main on its own! Definitely not the usual kind of starters we have had before. Crab omelette was special and very filling too and somehow the flavour of everything--crab,omelette, avocado mousse and creme fraiche) fell together very nicely.

Mains: Seared Halibut and roasted baby chicken

I would say for the whole meal i was more impressed by the starters than the main. Not that they were not good, fresh and tasty ingredients but not as interesting and too small in portions, esp the chicken. Fish was very fresh and went well with the saffron dressing and french beans underneath made it a really healthy dish.

Panna cotta was a very good finish to the meal and even left us abit full. I would say the portioning of the meal was very well done in a french way and left you very satisfied, very in tune with the flavour of each dish and the bread with its garlic butter was super yummy too!

Would definitely recommend this place to my frends to bring their dates!

Angmokia discovered this place on one of the websites we subscribe to and i can say im very very impressed with the setting of the place! I think it used to be olive restaurant which i had been to many years ago and wah.. they have transformed this place to look so chillout and high class looking with dark wood interior and orange mood lights and candles..

A really good place for guys who wants to bring a girl for a private date. =) I felt like i was in bali... lol

A nice touch was a free bread basket with sesame butter (YUM!) and free sampler which u can see in the picture.. its a fine dining place nonetheless and they take great care in presentation of the dish as u can see... The veg roots salad was the cheapest started at $12 and its quite refreshing and healthy.. made with beet roots, carrots, sweet potatoes in a light dressing..

The angmokia loves cheese so he took a risk with the watermelon and feta cheese thing which turned out to be perfect for him! I saw the grilled watermelon on the menu and thought.. umm pay $18 for watermelon? no way.. lol.. but when we saw the huge chunk of feta i can understand why.. but if u r not into it dun take this coz it can be a bit overwhelming.. we like this flower looking like thing in this dish and the beef dish which was marinated garlic.. very pretty presentation and yummy and tasty! the garlic was soft n well marinated..

I had the crispy skin sea bass which was very good quality and a generous chunk of fish.. the cream was supposed to be salty egg yolk but the taste was pretty subtle.. tasty healthy dish!

Overall.. we loved the setting but for the price it was alright for the food..nice presentation but wasnt the kind that compels me to go back.
